It would be interesting but probably hard/impossible to have all the writers like it. Remember the 1 time Linus designed a case from the start is his/yvonne’s personal rig and he’s not shared the CAD files for it because of all the things he now knows is bad with the case

I did a G5 ATX conversion by myself and I find it quite interesting to see different approaches on different builds for the common problems like backplane design, power button and I/O Ports, Power LED, Mainboard Tray, etc. I actually left the mezzanine in place because I still use a BD drive with the original drive port (which actually fits without any adjustment) and a hard drive on top. I ended up building a similar stand for the power supply, but there are folks using the original mac pro power supply housing and putting in a server power supply from a windows machine. With the mezzanine still in place, I unfortunately just can use a 280 mm radiator in front, but that works well for me. With the paint job, the LED logo and a Xeon, this thing looks quite nice! Kudos to you guys!

It's actually because that's one of the few cards that will work under MacOS. Essentially unlike windows and Linux apple only needs to include drivers for devices which they use. This means only a select few broadcom chipsets work. The most common chips used for this purpose feature 3 wifi antennae and 1 bluetooth antenna.

What a beautiful and insanely powerful hack Pro. Also love the custom loop and tight powerful fit. If the psu bracket also included mounting for the psu with screws and the back two fans were covered by the same mesh as the rest of the back, it would have been perfect.

Sadly a lot of the parts for their builds are provided by sponsor companies and aren’t theirs to keep, and even the parts they CAN keep are very expensive and it makes a lot more sense to reuse them in future builds than to drop tens of thousands on new stuff. It sucks and it hurts me soul but it really has to be that way sadly

It’s also water cooled so airflow is not as much of a concern as it would be if it was air cooled

If you ever interested in self painting other metal pieces, use one of those spray gun handles that attaches to spray cans. It helps even out the spray pattern, Using a hard clear coat and sanding it/ polishing it really makes the metal shine, or if that’s excessive (It’s used for wonderfully painted Motorcycle Parts) I also use Antique Silver Paint to add a metallic tone. Great Work though!!

I have wanted to do this for 3 years. I have like 5 G5s in our shop and I could cobble something together that would work, but the hardware to complete the modification of the case is something I don't have until recently.

Don't worry about taping radiator, my brother bought cheap af case and 2,5 SSD. There was no mounting for it. Had to tape it...

I love it! Great job! My Hackintosh is in a Corsair Carbide Air 540, with lots of color and mods. I hope you used OpenCore, and not Clover! Runs like a champ.

@@maqqi7124 If you want it black, I highly recommend finding an anodizing outfit that does scary black rifles. It's far superior to paint, which is why Apple anodized their cases, and anodization is nearly marine-proof. If you're a 40K fan, there's a military standard puke green generally available for cheap and super durable, if you feel like hanging out with Nurgle.

Updating Mac OS goes without a problem as long as you use OpenCore as the boot loader. I'm even running on Beta (10.15.6) and its working perfectly fine.
