And thus, it begins. This week, we're taking on a big one - the Trans Andes Challenge, a 5 day stage race in Chilean Patagonian. Over 5 days, we’ll be riding 180 miles and climbing 30,000 feet, through some of the most stunning terrain on earth. Volcanoes, rivers, volcanic rivers...this race has a bit of everything - including, of course, the unpredictable and volatile weather that Patagonia is famous for.
We’ll be joined this week by our good friends Lo and Joe, who we somehow convinced to try this as their first ever mountain bike stage race. We have no idea what we’re getting into, but we’re pretty sure it’s going to be unlike anything we’ve ever done before, and it’s going to push us to our physical and mental limits.

Each time macky hit the River crossing Syd was already on the decent so there maybe was a lot of riders between them.

I really feel for Syd sometimes when she’s trying to pass someone and they don’t move out of the way, especially when she’s still riding and they’re walking their bikes. It seems to happen to happen to her far more often than it happens to Macky.

A lot of these guys also climbed way stronger than me, so they beat me up the hill. But yeah, the pro men tend to be better about at letting others pass than those farther back in the pack 🤷‍♀️

This race really shows how good they both are at decending. From the camera view, it's hard to tell how steep and technical those decents are, until you see a bunch of people walking their bikes, and Syd and Macky flying by them. Good skills. There was a couple of views of Syd running over tree trunks like that wasn't an obstacle, what's up with that?

I remember how mad i got on a race i took part in years ago where people would pass me on a short uphill and then get of the bike immediately for the downhill, running in the midle of the trail. Syd is really good at staying polite!

The difference in the racing for Macky in front of everyone vs syd in the pack having to deal with all the congestion of people is crazy. Awesome first day guys!

It would make sense to in some way separate the men's race from the women's race (different start time etc), so that faster women like Syd would not get stuck behind the slower of the men's race indeed. Would give much cleaner results

Macky was also racing the Pro men as where Syd was mixed in with regular racers and ive noticed at alot of my races the pros are way nicer and way better about letting people pass.

Watched this and day 2 so far. Macky, I like the self encouragement. I need to try that more often. Syd, enjoyed watching you catch and pass the men, how you handle the technical sections and don't stop for anything. Both, enjoyed watching the lines you select with no time to decide. Technical sections were really interesting on this trail.

It seems your off season training is paying off. I noticed Syd has noticeable improvement with regards to the climbing. Syd had more consistent speed and burst on the climb. Nice job to you both.

I love when you guys speak in Spanish on the trail or to locals, it’s very kind. That bike park is designed for enduro more than for XC, not surprised to see some riders struggling on the descends, and that volcanic gravel drains so well, sure you enjoyed those trails.

Congratulations to all of you! Everyone was pushing hard and ended up with great results in each class. Syd was really pushing, you could hear the breathing and guess the heart rate was up there for a while. Way to push through it.
