Great match. Lovely to see Makin developing shots and not just being a super fit retriever which will not be enough to beat th top players these days. Also great to see Farag in superb form.

The camera angle at start of 3rd game was great. Gives much better idea of the pace and reach of the players

@squashtv seems like theres and issue with the framerate. KZfaq thinks the video if 50fps but the video is choppy and i doubt it is even 30fps. Suspect the input video for the sequence is 30fps into a 50fps timeline resulting in a lot of missed frames

Makin is a beast and he’ll be no1 sooner or later but Ali Farag is next level

Faraq just keeps the rally going slightly longer than Makin is physically comfortable with. He's gonna have adapt to those longer rallies.

For me, it's not so much the length of the rallies as the shots Makin played, which played into Farag's hands. A lot of the crucial points were decided by poor cross-courts played by Makin when under no real pressure, or after he'd put himself under pressure from weak returns. He's as fit as anyone on tour, but if you're doing, say, 55% of the running in each point that will soon wear you down, especially if you're playing the world's best player.

Makin's biggest problems are (A) his shot selection and (B) the power with which he hits to ball. He had Farag under the cosh when taking the pace off the ball, not when he leathered it. His cross-courts were also too shallow and/or too wide. With a couple of better choices in the second game, this would have gone to the wire. He needs a better coach, assuming he has one.
