Good point. All reports of him as a coach are positive, I don’t think the level of the club is as Important as the fit I think he’d be a great at somewhere like palace where Roy with more experience than anyone in the game can step upstairs and help guide on the club management side of things.

A few extra pounds in the bank from the buzz, not made on football decisions at all, they destroy clubs, but the chairmans at least get a photo and a christmas card from them. At that level it’s much less important your knowledge in training methodology and tactics and your social and men management skill become much more important. For example, I think you put Ten Haag to manage Real Madrid and he is getting sacked within a year with zero trophies, I don’t believe he comes anywhere near what Zidane did, then again - I don’t believe Zidane does what Ten Haag did if he manages Ajax.

I played with Terry one Monday evening down at Cobham rugby club, just a casual Monday night football session about 10 months ago. Even outside of the limelight he was a complete professional. He was constantly making sure we were organised back to front, providing feedback to us during the game on positioning, tactics etc. He's clearly well equipped when it comes to knowledge and his ability to communicate, whether he can translate this to the top level is yet to be proven.

Its difficult to get on the ladder and even more difficult to hit the ground running. So many players have retired and failed. A couple of example are Sol Campbell, and Harry Kewell who both began at the lower leagues and even going back to the late Bobby Charlton. Great player but not a great manager. Unless they are given a chance you never know but the first appointment is a massive challenge, especially in the lower leagues.

To be fair to JT he was also turned down for Championship and League One jobs. I think for a leader of his calibre that's probably pretty humiliating. However, the elephant in the room when this was discussed was his various controversies and off-the-field issues. Much like Ryan Giggs, he has probably ruined any chance of being able to consistently keep a dressing room on side. That said, I think Terry could do it (Giggs has no chance) and with the right club at the right time could probably do a good job. Whatever you say about him, he was a phenomenal captain and player. I say that as an Arsenal fan who spent most of his career recreationally hating him. The guy definitely has at least some of what it takes to be a great manager.

Lampard failed at Chelsea but ultimately so has everyone ETH is meant to be this great manager whose "earned his stripes" but his management has been terrible, hasn't improved players hasn't got a style that is obvious, so I think it just been at the right job at the right time - Eddie Howe wasn't a obvious fit for us but now he's proving to be a very good manager who has all the hallmarks to be world class - players and fans absolutely love him and work extremely hard for him - has improved individuals significantly, Joelington, Miggy, Wilson, Schaur Longstaff have all went from championship bound to champions league and scoring v PSG which 4 of those 5 did, he has a clear style.of football and its easy to buy players to fit a style rather than ETH who's buying players and trying to make a style for them

I don’t think that’s the issue, lots of managers deemed to be attacking were defensive players. Pep himself was a CDM, Klopp a defender also. Terry should have been given a go at Birmingham above Rooney - I personally don’t think Birmingham needed to shift managers but on paper I would have given Terry a go there as opposed to Rooney

There’s no coincidence that the best managers have all started at the much lower level. Even pep started with Barcelona reserves. Very rarely will someone go in with their first job with a top division team and nails it.

I do believe some of these former great players can become good managers, but as said on here. Cut their teeth lower down first, before jumping into things. It's why Lampard failed. Went to Chelsea too soon, and he paid for it. Gerrard might have a better shot, as he's in a job, despite SA league, but it's still experience.

"I know John Terry" say's Jordan....... if he does he needs to find new friends....... how is he even being talked about....Terry is the most odious man in football, he has not one iota talent as a manager, he was not even the tea boy at Villa, always makes me laugh because of his football days he seems to be able to hood wink owners of clubs....... Terry cannot be allowed to run even the under 10's at any club!

Ive met a few people within the football world that have all said the same thing about Terry. Great player but as a human being he’s a scumbag. So I’m not shocked anyone gives him a chance who wants that representing your club it amazes me Barton has gotten what he has gotten. Go down the leagues and learn your trade boys. Many young managers coming through in the EFL that deserve chances.

Kieran McKenna has done 13 years learning from youth teams, coaching, under various managers coaching and he’s only 37 and then went down to League one. John Terry thinks a few year of years being assistant is good enough experience? Go get a real job first and then work your way up. Getting a chance in League one or two!!! No way, you’ve not even had a youth team to yourself yet. Even at least Gerrard did that first.

Rooney did decently in his 1st stint at DC Unted and at Derby County. His team was relegated was due to losing 21 points to financial issues at Derby County. His 2nd stint at DC United wasn't great but the team was really horrible the previous year before he got there.

Really wanted to see what he did in 2nd year here at DC United, as I could see improvements and a team playing together. But now we’ll never know! I don’t know if it was the Birmingham Job or his family staying in England? When his wife, who didn’t like living in DC Area ( or the US in general) stayed in England I always thought that may drive him back to England. Especially as a father of 4 !
