I love that just because it started out life as 'cheap' didn't mean it was junk to be tossed. It's much lovelier, in more natural stains.

Thank you for bringing back to life this instrument. Even though some comments said it was originally a cheap instrument coming from a family with many children we also got a lot of joy and fun from the less expensive things. I am sure that if that mandolin could talk it would tell of many hours of fun and laughter and maybe even a love aria or two. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I am sure this instrument was not stellar quality from day one. Therefore because of the extent of the repairs on the top especially, I may have opted to use a 2 part professional epoxy on the inside (underside of the top and inside the bottom, to add additional strength to the wood. When I say professional quality I am not referring to the stuff you buy at Home Depot.I did this once on an antique guitar , and it did not effect the resonance to any noticeable degree. But like I said It probably did not have a really top notch quality sound even when new, and I am sure even though you did a great job restoring it's appearance, it will never be recording quality , if even playable today.

''Bring me a mandolin so you can see how I hurt And then I will become a lily and then I will disappear What do I care if I get lost since I will have become a lily Bring me a mandolin'' Greek song lyrics. Restoring an instrument in this condition is relatively easy for someone in the know but getting started is difficult.
