Even though some comments said it was originally a cheap instrument coming from a family with many children we also got a lot of joy and fun from the less expensive things. I am sure that if that mandolin could talk it would tell of many hours of fun and laughter and maybe even a love aria or two. Thanks for sharing this with us.

For most old instruments. Just alcohol and a rag would wash off that finish easy, clean and fast. On such a tiny thing.

Good restoration. BUT, At this point: 10:40 I had glued wood imitation on the top to make it look more beautiful from like from a solid piece of wood. I also added shellac and it would look much better. See Ya! 😏✌

That was really better to change the soundboard by a brand new wood, a repaired crack on a soundboard is surely a mess in the sound diffusion.

I think this is the First time I've seen You Work on something this Delicate Before. You have a Nice Touch. Beautiful Work. The Insertion of Tom sitting there Motionless and You saying; "Not a Photo" was Hilarious! It was so Random!

I would have loved to see it setup and played. Who knows how it would have sounded? Probably not great. Probably decent. Probably different.

I’m pretty sure that no one else but you would have thought to rebuild that mandolin. Superb job!

I am sure this instrument was not stellar quality from day one. Therefore because of the extent of the repairs on the top especially, I may have opted to use a 2 part professional epoxy on the inside (underside of the top and inside the bottom, to add additional strength to the wood. When I say professional quality I am not referring to the stuff you buy at Home Depot.I did this once on an antique guitar , and it did not effect the resonance to any noticeable degree. But like I said It probably did not have a really top notch quality sound even when new, and I am sure even though you did a great job restoring it's appearance, it will never be recording quality , if even playable today.
