An 80th Birthday Present for Sir Tom Jones.
In 2014 I was fortunate enough to be chosen by Sir Tom Jones as my mentor on 'The Voice UK'. On entering the competition my ambition had been to sing a duet with the superstar legend. Sir Tom took me on a fantastical journey through the stages of that competition and I reached the final and realised my dream.
I am happy to now be able to pay homage to this Knight of the Realm, on his special Birthday, with my own version of 'It's Not Unusual' - his 1965 breakthrough hit.
I recorded the music in my home studio (Chickenshit Studios). My pal Anna Ryder came round one day and we recorded her piano and my vocal in one take. Anna added the horn section and I overdubbed the guitar. I then mixed it and mastered it with advice from son no 1 Dillon, who is currently working on his own music project (The Brown Bear Collective). Son no 2 Ben then made it into a family affair by putting the video together.

I just want to share by mine with you...life teaches us it's usually these kind of general or generic comments when there is a lack of connection the hooked factor you never get away from...being 68 and gob smacked from begging to this day n researching his life...his wife was the true live of his life even tho with 250 females a year in those days so much more I could say...here it is.. I don't follow these shows live only when you tube streams by and one happened to be from her by initial audition and so forth without the slow motion effect and my heart saw instantly the pain and a sorrow only he would know why I cried thru out ... I saw his 💓 well up with tears from the first cords he heard and it brought his 💓 to their knees...and his fellow judges were by seeing by it too... I knew he was thinking how she must have felt and time cannot be changed...listen to his brand new release ... No Holes be in my Head...tks for listening happy day

I'm cosy and warm at home, listening to Ms Barker's stellar rendition of Sir Tom's first song, the one that started it all for the great man. In addition to Sally's beautiful rendition and Sir Tom's enduring presence, I have to say how magnificent is the song's haunting arrangement. It’s the key she sings in and her vocal composures. All the best singer’s seem to take there time delivering each word with perfect timing and tone lovely. Sally has this in abundance .

Isn't sally a Special Soul? Thanks Tom and Sally. This a piece not everyone may appreciate. Too much quality, tenderness, and beauty together. It in not unusual that someone cries listening to this song of Tom by Sally. It is too sensible. It is also very unusual, when quality is no longer appreciated, that in 2021 this song has more than 2,000,000 views. It is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a loyal US citizen, a loyal fan of The Voice UK (because of KZfaq), and a lifelong fan of Sir Tom Jones, my love for this video was immediate and intense. My one desire is that someday Sir Tom will see this ... I'm sure he'd get as choked up as I am right now.

I remember in the 1980s attending a folk festival in England, and not getting any sleep one night as the surrounding tents were inhabited by members of Leicester folk club, and they decided on a marathon singaround. The quality of the singers ran the gamut, but one stood out. And there were frequent calls of "C'mon Sally, give us another!" And boy, did she not deliver! The following day, she got a solo spot on the main stage, and I became a Sally Barker fan, and saw her several times in subsequent years on the Folk circuit. She has star quality in spades. But I submit she has never been better than here. This is magic. I have always adored Sir Tom, but by some distance this was always my least favourite song in his repertoire. But by golly, Sally truly transforms it.

I've never seen anyone touch Tom Jones like that.Im so glad he was there when Sally sang.Never have I ever seen a lady sing that song like she did.I don't think he was ready for that.

This was soooo beautiful & touching. I'm sure Sir Tom was absolutely moved by this. I have watched over & over again the video compilation of your journey on the Voice. You are a treasure. Your voice, interpretation, & delivery are 2nd to none. Unfortunately the youth don't have the attention span to get it. Blessings to you Sally Barker & your family. You have brought much joy, peace & memories to my life. How many have brought Sir Tom Jones to heartfelt tears? That says it all.
