Buick was retained because it was huge in China. In Chinese, Buick sounds auspicious, as in BU (wealth) + ICK (Profit/Benefit). This is literally the main reason why it became so popular initially in China's semi-luxury segment.

For some historical reflection ... despite the Envista's Korean roots ... Buick is actually the oldest _existing_ US car company (not only in the US, but in the world). Buick is the company from which GM evolved - it's founder was born in Scotland and the brand has a decent racing history. They were one of the first companies to have their motors used in mid-engine La Mans cars (predating Porsche, Ford and Ferrari). In the 60s, they used stock 215ci aluminum block engines in their Indy cars. The 80's and 90's didn't do the brand any favors, but the new styling (thanks to Asian markets) is headed in the right direction. Buick has never capitalized on its history - and they really should. Hey, this entry level vehicle is slow - but at least the engine sounds like it's working (which it is :D) ... some modern 4-cylinder engines today just sound buzzy and numb.
@carsonphillips524
@carsonphillips524 7 ай бұрын
Nice background for Buick..didn't know all that. I just bought a Buick Envista and love it. I disagree that it's slow. I have no problems with acceleration and power when I want it, letting the turbos kick in. And it delivers so quietly and smoothly. I go up mountains everyday and this engine does not sound like its working, on the contrary, it's stays quiet and delivers plenty of power and keeps the car going at current speed without the annoying loud downshift you hear in other cars. On paper you would think it would be anemic, but it is not by any means. The engine is so efficient and smooth it doesn't need a 4th cylinder. It satisfies the want of hearing some engine noise with a low growl at low speeds when the gas is pushed. Maybe that's by design, idk. Thank goodness they didnt' put in a horrible droning CVT like many new cars are doing (including the Asian makes). It actually has gears and you don't even notice the shift changes hardly. No it's not a BMW but it wasn't intended to race. But it delivers plenty of power and I'm getting 40 mpg highway. WOW!! It's sporty, elegant and functional with the hatchback all in one. Buick did a great job with this one! Don't believe the ones who dismiss it because it's lacking 1 cylinder. It's not needed and its more efficient, less parts to go wrong and better mpg. Check it out.

I get a about 8.3L/100km in my 2023 Mazda CX5 GS with AWD (2.5L NA) and if I set cruise control on the highway to like 110km/h I get it down to like 7.0L/100km, it’s the city driving that kills my average. Last night I granny drove my car home (distance to empty was 64km and I had a 65km drive home, about 61km to the gas station by my house) and got the car to 6.8L/100km, I had 7km of range left when I got to the gas station 😆

The styling of the new generation Buick's is very nice, what gets me is the interior material, although the design is also nice, the material looks so much like cheap plastic. They could take a page off of what Subaru has done with their interior materials. With that one exception, I think they are making some nice cars that are enticing. However since I spend more time looking at the inside (I am after all driving the thing), the interior look is very important to me.

I think the money saved on the top-spec chevy is money well-saved. At this price, vs the 27k that the full spec Chevy, I'd love to see it with a hybrid that throws in another 40 hp when you launch it hard and saves you fuel in traffic. Other than that, the space/cost ratio is really good for someone who either needs to fit a rear-facing child seat or a couple adults in the back seat. The hatch gives it some utility. I don't think it needs to be sporty, but a bit quicker and better mpg is math that should have been possible at 33k.

@@samconnecticut1485Toyota is also moving away from 4 and 6 cylinders though too. They're trying to move towards the 3 cylinder instead of the 4 cylinder because it's smaller and can make just as much torque and power. It's all about efficiency it's why most people have moved away from v8s and v6s. You can make just as much or more power from a turbo v6 or a turbo 4 cylinder.

This is kind of a game changer. It’s a beautiful car exterior wise almost competition to the Mazda shape when you look at a good paint job with that side front back door panel, super sexy. On top of that to be a US manufacturer competing with a Toyota excuse me a Honda Japanese civic that brings the bar up. Hopefully they can maintain this, but I think they’re going for a much premium clientele and upping their brand as Buick which I think is great and they should.

I just bought a Buick Envista and love it. I disagree that it's slow like your hearing from many who want a race car. Thank goodness they didn't' put in a horrible droning CVT like many new cars are doing (including the Asian makes). All this for @ 25K, brand new car. Hard to beat for a roomy big feeling car with cargo room.

It's crazy how well Buick's doing in China. I also have no issues with the names of Buick models. It has been said that the regular Buick Encore is being discontinued and it was the company's smallest model. The Encore GX is slightly larger than the Encore and is now the entry-level SUV. The Envista is the "sportier looking" version of the Encore GX. The Envision is the next SUV up and is about the same size as the Ford Escape, Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, and Cadillac CT4/CT5. Lastly is the Buick Enclave, Buick's largest vehicle in the US and it competes with the Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Cadillac XT6. It's basically what Ford is doing with their SUV name as they also start with an E.

Because I keep my cars for 7-8 years, I am worried about the durability of a 1.2 litre turbo on a vehicle of this size. I'm not super worried about the non-AWD because I live in Nova Scotia and FWD with snow tires is perfectly fine...but how is that turbo going to hold up in such a small engine? That said, it's a beautiful vehicle and I love, love, love the styling. And I guess I'm their target market because I'm 37.
@aidensnow5017
@aidensnow5017 Ай бұрын
Some people say there garbage but the engine is literally too new to even tell, people just don't like it because its a 3 cyl engine and everyone wants over 200HP to sit in traffic with. I would imagine like any engine it depends on you as a driver, how heavy is your foot, how often do you change the oil, do you change your oil early?... As a mechanic all of that makes the difference between someone Camry coming into my shop with a blow head gasket at only 80K miles and someone's Camry coming in for their 200,000 mile oil change. ANY turbo, even a 4 cyl Honda will die sooner then a non Turbo engine, and they will die twice as fast if abused by a stupid teen that thinks their 2018 Civic is a sports car (it's nothing of the sort). I would guess this could last over 100K miles fairly easily if you took care of it and drove like an adult that didnt have a complex. But if you want MAXIMUM reliability from a NEW car, Buy a Subaru, even over a Toyota or Honda. Subaru CVT's are chain driven and last WAAAYYY longer then Toyota, Honda, or Hyundai/Kia CVT's, and their non turbo engines are beyond bullet proof and arguably built better then Toyota and Honda's newer engines. Hell even Subaru's turbo engine's REGULARLY live beyond 200K miles even with an abusive driver owning them. I've got several Legacy, Outback, and Foresters that live in the area that have the non turbo 2.5L engines come in for batteries, tires and oil. Several that have 400k, 500k, one even has nearly 900K miles on it that drives Uber and they just keep purring... These newer Toyota's and Honda's are okay but not anything like their old reliability, mainly from the Turbo's and CVT's, typical automakers trading reliability for MPG and or power.

I do have a major concern, though: that 1.2-liter I-3 turbo engine could get heavily stressed, especially accelerating on freeway ramps and running at higher altitudes. I bought an Envista and it has plenty of power for accelerating and cruising, even up mountains which I live in. It feels effortless actually. No issues with building speed on ramps at all, it scoots along great when you want to push the pedal more. It doesn't scream at all either, very quiet and smooth. If you didn't know it was a 3 cyl turbos, you would think it was a four or 6. Todays smaller engines are designed to deliver power like 6 cyl used to but with great gas mileage. I'm getting 40-45 mpg highway so it's the best of both worlds.
