I never pay full retail. I can't. I may not have the hottest action figures out there but I'm happy with what I do have. Just yesterday, I bought a twenty dollar figure for ten dollars. That's the way collecting has to be in my life.

The problem with going to many different places to "shop around" is yes, you may find a figure you want for $10 instead of $20...but how much did you spend on gas and lunches while searching?? I fell into that trap and realized I was actually paying quadruple the actual price due to those factors.

I like going to the swap meet and the thrift store I rarely pay full price

It's times like this is where we appreciate Discount and Thrift stores, not just for collecting, but for every other daily necessities

There SHOULD be a cap on rent, but there also should be a cap on the Taxes that owners pay. The cap can be adjustable according to your salary or even the area ( school zone as they say), but it should definitely be capped. Traditionally video game Systems are sold at a loss. So they make it back on the games. Unfortunately some of these games have movie budgets, so they will just get more and more expensive. My argument is quality also. Fused joints, wobbly weapons. Fugly head sculps like classified Falcon. I wonder if a wood worker and a 3d printer maker could make a USS Flagg better than the one they sold back in the days?

I couldn't agree more, I grew up on the original X-Men animated series and loved it; but I absolutely refuse to pay 25 to 27 dollars for 1 figure. Enough is enough.

I even got a raise and everything, but it's still not enough to live as good as I was living just a couple years ago. My peak years for collecting were 2021 through early 2023. And then idk what the hell happened!? Everything started going up, and money just doesn't go as far as it used to.

I ask myself why I buy $100 mafex and other import figures all the time, they really aren't worth it so it's basically an addiction.

I understand what you are saying, Tim but I focus on Transformers (Legacy/g1 base/Studio series) which rarely on sale. If I want it I got to get it. But I cherry pick what I want. I ignored movie and Earthspark lines, and pick out precisely what I want from G1 base line. I only get the toys that bring me the most joy. The other lines really do nothing for me. This also helps me enjoy my toys too and savoring them.

Tried of getting burned when stuff goes on clearance after I bought full price. If it’s something I really want I’ll pay full price after watching some reviews. When it comes to shoes I always head to the clearance rack or outlet stores. You can find some decent shoes for $20-$30 bucks.

Don't forget Big Lots. They carry some stuff also.

Cancelled two of my Classified preorders I was on the fence about. Had them as a kid, but wasnt sure if I really wanted them now. Then add the cheap accessories and I cant justify paying $26.

this is so true, another place for overpricing is the comic book market for new books, it's all run by overpriced variant covers now with some getting to 7 or 8 bucks an issue for non ratio special covers. I cut back big time.

Black Series 50th anniversary Mace Windu at Ross for $5.99. I bought 2 for under $14. I think that figure was originally sold for $27 or $28. I'll take it😅

Mcfarlane figs here in Australia are 45 doller for basic and around 50 for build a figure

The Marvel Legend prices are insane. I’m only interested in the X-Men ‘97’s from that line. No way I’d drop $25.00 on them. Absolutely not. I don’t even want to entire line. Just mainly Gambit, Wolverine, & Storm. But not unless it’s half the price right now. If they never get down to 12-14 dollars then I can live without them.

Unc, it's been bad for a long time. Every company is tripping with the distribution of their figures today! I still can't understand how products sell out while they are on pre-order status. The pre-order window opens for a HasLab for 45 days and there is only a minimum order limit. Regular pre-orders should have a 45 day window instead of 5 minute sell outs!🤦🏾‍♂️

Unc, messing with their profit is NOT going to change things. Prices aren't ever coming down. They're only going to continue to go up. People aren't sending the message they want to send to these companies by not paying full price or just not buying the product at all. The message the companies are going to get is this: "This product isn't selling. Cease production". That's it. They won't lower the price or increase the quality to match the higher price. They just won't make it anymore, period. Look, I understand the frustration and maybe having to draw a line somewhere. If you don't think something is worse the price, that is totally fair. Don't buy it. But don't expect that to bring about a change, because it won't. The reality is that, at some point, you WILL be priced out of a hobby and be forced to give it up if you are unwilling to adapt to the rising costs or simply cannot afford to adapt to them. That's just the way it is. There's really no use in ranting about it because you'll be ranting forever.

Mass market retail toy lines aimed at adult collectors are about to go the way of the dodo, so it’s not going to be a conundrum much longer. We’re being priced out of the market because the manufacturers are being priced out of the market. It’s not just the production costs, it’s the overhead costs and the licensing fees from overvalued IPs. Smaller, leaner, more agile companies with more affordable IPs selling direct and through smaller retailers like Valaverse are the way of the future. The bigger IPs like DC, Marvel, and Star Wars will be boutique lines with much higher quality…and prices.

The toy industry guys say “don’t play clearance chicken” they say it was because of companies over ordering in the pandemic.They already says stores ordering less online stores like BBTs ordering less of super 7 they won’t have loads to put on sale and will keep the minimum amount they do have because it’s not taking up so much space and keep the retail price

At the end of the day is it a need to have or a want to have . If you are making 50K a year that is considered low income if so one should not be spending anything extra. If you are making up to $145:K that is considered middle income, then you may have a moderate amount of disposable income. If you are making above $145K and more, you are considered to be in the high-income level and disposable income when it comes to collecting action figures should be of little concern. Remember all those things that sit of the shelf while they are cool and neat and gazing at it makes you feel whatever, but how much of that do you continue to need to make you happy? As you will run out of space, you can't display it all and whatever you bought it for you will be lucky getting 40% return should you need to sell it off. Remember stuff, things does not bring happiness. Stop focusing on material things, you will be a lot happier.

I'm only focusing on MOTU Origins. A very small & specific list of figures I want. Trying to finish up the Vintage Collection. So now I'm stuck with Mattel Creations. And I have to pay full price. Rokkon just sold in an hour last month. Waiting for him to hit Ross or Ollie's is not an option.

Unc....as a landlord I have to increase rent with my costs....insurance has more than doubled in 1 year....property tax going thru roof. Have to pass on costs and still turn a profit for it to be a viable business. Putting a cap on rent doesn't make sense.

Fam, you gonna be ranting forever because these toy lines are never gonna lower their prices. It is what it is. I’m not trying to judge your collection but if your disposable income has gotten to the point where you’re refusing to buy $25 figures…maybe you shouldn’t have wasted it on those certain figures. Because I see you do have some dope figures but you also gotta a lot of crappy ones. And you collect so many different lines and genres, it’s all over the place. But like you say what works for you may not work for me…but I have no complaints with toy prices vs my financial situation. Just saying

But here's the thing. The price hikes on figures happened LONG BEFORE the economy started to slow down. Long before the lay offs. So, honestly, Hasbro and these other companies did this to themselves because of their GREED. I think I make pretty good money and they priced me out of the market. It's not that I don't want the figures. They look awesome. I'm just not going to blow an entire paycheck just to stay current on action figures.

I'm a PC gamer. I only pay full price for a game maybe once a year. Otherwise, I won't buy if it's over $20.

I bought a new folding knife (spyderco para 3lw) because I lost my other one and it was $149 one day and the next it went up 10-20$ everywhere with the company sending out an email explaining why. R/C hobby cars will absolutely break you now. It's getting hard to put things on credit and payment plans because you don't know what the future holds. Meanwhile in other countries shit is cheaper, go watch Tucker Carlson grocery shopping in moscow. They are under sanctions and he still bought a whole cart of groceries for around $100. We are being ripped off at every turn.
