This channel is amazing. It has all the usefulness (if not more) without the arrogance and condescension of David from MixbusTV. In general this channel has amazing information that is helpful, someone who doesn't talk a mile a minute, no cuts or quotes from movie scenes every 30 seconds, expert advice presented with humility and constructive criticism. Huge thumbs up!

Thank you so much for doing this. A lot of creators shy away from doing viewer submitted content (or any content that isn't popular or in the spotlight) but as someone who is learning their way through mixing/mastering, content like this is not only a great resource, but would be awesome to have one of my pieces critiqued like this someday. Keep it up!

I've watched a few of these and felt the same. I'm not too experienced when it comes to actual music production and mixing but I feel that sometimes he makes the songs sound better purely in quality while removing some elements that add to the style. for example the nasal vocal sound in the start of this video. That sound really fits the genre and to me it would make sense to leave some of it. Usually though I learn a lot and he makes some great moves.

In my perspective, the whole MIX actually has a nasal quality to it that seems more like a monitoring issue than a stylistic choice. Listen to Neck Deep or State Champs and you hear great examples of SUPER aggressive upper mids that don't make it sound peaky and nasal.@@zachbaudo

Those first and last songs are really good, shoutout to those bands/artists. It's really amazing how you can hear exactly what needs to happen to every single track in the mix. I'm excited to keep progressing and get to that point. Thank you!

Hey! thanks a lot to Roelof for giving me ideas to work with my mix (3rd one)! It helps me a lot, I usually struggle to make my guitars sit in a mix, and I often hear them either too loud or too soft, rarely in between. Cheers to you both, keep up these videos, you are awesome ! (ps : no offense taken on my name, I'm used to it lol)

These Viewer Mix reviews are the best videos you've ever done. It would be really cool if you were able to host the songs somewhere so that viewers can listen before watching the video, and then check out what you and Roelof thought, and compare our notes to yours--did we catch that huge midrange hole? Did we think the whole vocal needed to come up, or maybe just some crucial 1.2k? Does the chorus need more bass? Thanks again for all these fantastic videos that go way beyond "this plugin is cool".

@18:00 it sounds like the guitars were edited and the pick attack got taken out. Like they lined up the first big spike with the grid and cut out the pick attack before it.

In the Unicorn blaster mix I dont think it's necessarily the guitars that are too loud (maybe a tiny bit), it's just the drums that are way to low overall when comparing to everything else.
@yannmenage
@yannmenage 5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I agree with you on this one. I misjudged the amount of "in-you-face drums" needed for this style of music (aka : drum and vocals being upfront). I still think the guitars are indeed a bit too loud, I was too afraid to bring them down and not being able to hear them anymore (classic mistake of wanting to hear every instrument instead of serving the music)
@immersionHEHE
@immersionHEHE 5 ай бұрын
@@yannmenage yeah it's really hard to mix that kind of metal because you kinda want EVERYTHING to feel really loud, especially the drums and the guitars. I think you did a good job though, I would just up the volume for the drums, especially the overheads. I think the level of the guitars is fine if you compare them to the violin and scream vocals. Maybe 0.5db down, but everyone's taste different. Good job overall!

“The vocals feel a little distant” maybe they’re SUPPOSED to be a little distant! Maybe that’s part of the songwriting and arrangement and fits the lyrical theme. If Jordan had his way every mix within its genre would sound exactly the same. The mix critiques can be valuable, but at the same time it’s only one man’s opinion, and if he had his way every mix would sound like one of his.
