Also around 5:30, Brent didn't get hit by the Blu Shell thanks to the extended invincibility after getting hit by anything, yes even lightning. Base Mario Kart 8 extended the invincibility period already but deluxe extended even more.

The reason as to why you don't get hit by the blue after you hit an item is down to i frames being active so is a way to avoid a blue shell coming to you and keep on racing.
