Brian - SB local, here. Yeah, Tequepis is a great one! For locals - you can semi-shuttle Tequepis by starting at the end of West Camino Cielo, and riding west out the fire road along the top of the ridge to the (top) trailhead. Best views in the area the whole way An even better trail - do *backside Arroyo Burro.* Similar feel, longer, a little gnarlier and more varied (you miss some of the great views of Tequepis, but still gorgeous). You can start at the top, and then ride back up the fireroad. For a great 11 mile loop, do Camuesa Connector. Most of the trails in the area are in great shape. Sage Trail Alliance has been working them - thanks to them!

Don’t forget to bring a bike bell next time! That trail gets speedy in areas, quite a few hikers if it’s a nice day. Very enjoyable video 👍

Just did this trail 2 weeks ago in winter shape. The climb is huge. About 2,500 feet and it’s relentless.

So it’s Lake Cachuma. I wish I’d had known you were here Brian. New Trek Trails is right there off the dirt road you drove up at the Rancho Alegre Scout Camp. I coach the Santa Ynez Valley NICA Team and he had our practice at Cachuma on a course we built there this afternoon. Many of our team members follow you. We could’ve shown you the NICA Course and the culvert to get from Cachuma to Tequepis/Trek Trails. Are you still around? We’re holding a trail work day on Feb 27th at Cachuma to dial in the course for the SoCal League finals in April.

Sorry if repeating what's been said, but you can stay on El Camino Cielo (fire road) once you hit the top and take it all the way to the radio tower. Then you ride the last sketchy part that you pushed up, down. It's pretty clear from the map if you know that's what you need to do.

What would be cool is to see how long it took you to climb and then go down on each video :)

Kinda surprised you don’t already use a bell. I was never a fan of bells do to their constant annoying “belling” until I discovered the Timber bell, couple years ago, which can easily be turned off and on. It really has made a big difference when coming across other trail users particularly hikers. They here you coming and are usually well off the trail as you go by. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “love you’re bell” “thanks for the bell”. Nobody’s spooked, everybody’s appreciative and happy (well most everybody, there’s always going to be some sad sap no matter what) Continue to still be surprised at the positive responses. Clear to me that having a bell may very well narrow the divide between hikers and bikers.

Please wear a bell when riding singletrack in Santa Barbara. They are essential for keeping these multi-use trails open for mountain biking which the local community has fought very hard to do. There should be bell boxes located at the trailhead of most of the trails here. With such a large platform it would be better to have set a good example with a bell so even though its annoying to hear for youtube.

So, I'm curious, if you're riding on such a tight trail, known for use by bikers AND hikers, why not have a bell that constantly rings on the way down to warn those coming up, because at the speeds you were doing and all the blind corners, there's no way you'd be able to stop in time if you did happen upon some hikers as you came around one of those blind corners?

That's why we use cowbells. common courtesy for hikers even though so many hikers are brainless about common courtesy to bikers.

Man you gotta be nuts doing that steep loose decent at the top without gloves...hell I wouldn't even do that without pads. If you are in your 30s or 40s, bones start to break even with lighter crashes...as I've discovered ;p
