I am so glad, that I take the subway or GO train to Toronto. We honestly need more effective public transit in Toronto and to Toronto connecting from cities surrounding Toronto itself.

You’re not stuck in traffic, you are traffic. This is why there should be more investment in building more transit, so people don’t have to drive all the time and become traffic.

I'm finding the best mode of transportation is my two feet in this city.

That’s why I started taking the subway. Few months ago, it took my husband 3 hours to drive from downtown to the Gardiner. Ridiculous

Honestly if you’re travelling in downtown, just use transit like the rest of us. All the people you can see stuck in that traffic jam fit into 1 streetcar easily. Cars already take up way more space compared to other modes despite being the least used method of transport in downtown.

If commute ends and begins in Toronto, and it's shorter than a 30 minute drive, I highly highly highly recommend you give bicycles a shot. Get a cheap bike, and start commuting on your bike! While being safe and cautious ofcourse!

Thank you for drawing attention to this issue. What a mess. Where are the police? An officer overiding the stoplight and increasing the flow of traffic heading west would help. Terrible traffic management in Toronto.

No matter how big you build highways, traffic is only gonna grow. It is no longer sustainable or economical or efficient to use a car in big urban areas. People need to change their habits. Governments need to build more trains and bike networks

A Toronto, the city built for cars yet you can get faster on foot ANYWHERE. Not to mention the winter time where people leave there cars on the curbs the ENTIRE winter and they collect so much snow you can’t even think about moving them.

Why don’t the city force enbridge has to do this fix over night? Pay the enbridge worker double or triple pay to work off hours. Other major city does this, especially in high traffic areas like lakeshore

This is what happens when cities/towns are designed for cars. A couple of busses or a street car would have carried more people then everyone sitting in their cars in the video. Cars are traffic.

The only question I have is, why did the city tearing down Gardiner and lake shore east ramp then started road works on lake shore Blvd? How did they plan this?

Blame the idiot mayor and the city officials who plan these projects. That’s nothing compared to what’s going to happen when they start building the new Ontario Line. They want people to take Public Transit to get out of their cars, but most won’t because the Transit system in this city doesn’t function properly. Nothing worse than waiting 10 minutes for a bus and then 3 of them come at the same time or 3 of them pass by with “Out of Service” posted on them. They put a new ATC system on the subway in the last year or two, saying that it will improve the system by having a subway every 2 minutes, but it’s still the same, nothing has changed. They complain that people are not paying to enter the bus or subway, that’s nobody’s fault but their own. They don’t enforce payment or proof of payment anymore. The new vehicles are made for people to walk in and out without paying. All of these problems are easily fixable, it’s just up to the individual’s who make the decisions to fix theses problems. Whether they want to or not, that’s another issue because the way things are now, I Wouldn’t hire none of them to cut my grass.

The only SOLUTION to this problem is building cities for people not for cars. Having good bike lanes and public transportation will make a big difference. Just look at Amsterdam.

In that snow day, I purposely didn't drive the car and took a walk from office back home. To be honest, it took 2 hours walk from West till East York, but it better then 3 hours dive. Plus good exercise.

The whole lakeshore is messed up after they broke down the qew ramp going to and from laekshore...how insane the government can be without any thoughts. I have spent 1hr just to do half a km (500metres) drive. The government authorities need to feel the pain of their citizen. They need to drive on lakeshore on 3rd right lane after 3pm and they shall learn it by themselves

Just by reading the title of the video I knew what road they were talking about. Took me 3 hours just to get to the Gardiner exit and this was months ago. I would rather drive in Brampton.

they took away the ramps at the end of gardiner that went down to lakeshore so now people in the east end have to drive into downtown to get on a ramp to the highway. my parents live in the east end and its a pain to get back on gardiner.

One lane is rediculous But drivers also need to try to to utilize online services gps etc to see if their trip will be delayed.. and there are other ways to get around this .. anyone going downtown should always check maps online for traffice and delays and try to avoid them..

Traffic signals need to prioritize vehicles first, remove bicycle lanes remove roadside patios keep traffic moving.

I lived in TO for 20 years, worked downtown for 15. You get use to crybabies complaining about traffic, but the same people won't walk, won't take the bus... just cry. I took the subway and walked cause it was quicker, and relaxing... they don't see it that way but they never see anything the way its supposed to be. These are probably the same people who didn't want to elect a mayor that wanted to manage infrastructure... now you get "we have to do this now" reactive, quick resolving jobs that cost way more. Dumb. Now I live in London. ...everyone here cries about the same thing, even funnier cause bad traffic is 10-15 mins. 😆 World of muffins.

This is an everyday occurrence in Montreal. Traffic management is a serious issue.

Just wait till they close off queen for the Ontario line in a few weeks. It will take days to make the same 200 foot transit. People will start having to have meals delivered to their cars or start cooking in their cars.

What a great city to live in

What a disaster. I live on Yonge and Lakeshore and I literally can not leave or get to my place these days by car. This is the 3rd time this year they brought lakeshore lanes down to a single lane in the exact same spot. Why can't they just do it all at once and get it over with?

If I lived outside the city somewhere in the gta I wouldn’t be driving into and out of Toronto when I could just fall asleep listening to podcasts on the go train. Lol Suburbanites are so scared of public transit.

I got stuck in this. Was there 2 hours and 15 minutes, missed 1/3rd of the concert I was supposed to attend that night. Also couldn't pick up my friend from the station so she had to find her own way and missed dinner, lol

2 years ago there were over 240,000 Uber-food delivery vehicles on the road every single day and that doesn't include online shopping delivery vehicles. Toronto is a terrible place to visit or even drive through. Haha they voted for more John Tory and his insane world class city rants! 🤣

Love how most of these cars stuck in traffic only have 1 person in the car. That woman trying to drive 3 blocks that took hours. Could have walked 7 min instead.

I didn't know the orange cones have spilled from one City to another in Canada, it's big money for those construction companies, dig deeper and wider and make it last as long as possible to drain all that money from the City hall of every Canadian City seems to be the goal of them all.

I'm always stuck on lake shore this isent new or the first time we been stuck for 3 hours and usually have people begging for change the whole time on the side. Canada wants to break records for letting people into the country for free so they can tax them and make them pay insurance and tickets. On your license plate it says "Ontario yours to discover" which is a complete spit in your face it's only your to discover after you pay the government. Also let's add the fact they took away safety stickers letting anyone with any car not even safe to drive on the road be plated and allowed to drive. This is only going to increase if you actually want to drive move out of Toronto

We had an intersection like this in Houston. At 4-7pm they use 2-3 officers to move traffic and turn the light off. Used to take an hour to go 1/4 mile because 4 lanes go to 1 on W Alabama Street

We have to make green lights longer, left turn signal little longer too.

Been there done that. Took me 3 hours one day to drive in front street from University to Spadina

The best way to move a large amount of people is public transit. More efficient public transit means fewer cars on the road. Adding more lanes only adds more traffic, it's called induced demand.

I just randomly stopped the video at 0:18 and counted the best I can 14 vehicles in one lane. That's probably 28 vehicles for two lanes. I wouldn't doubt most of those only have one person in them. So we can estimate that at 0:18, all those cars represent about 30 to 40 people. But just try removing cars from Lakeshore and replacing it with bus or transit service, and you know who is going to scream the loudest. As the title says, that's a 7 minute walk. This traffic jam is the result of induced demand. Look at King Street today.

Having a car in Toronto is pointless

I got an idea.. demolish the remaining highways as well as you are doing with Gardiner. That will surely speed up things. Who needs high speed highways when you got low speed local roads with traffic lights every 400m? And you can make it even better by saturating the area with condos. Cram all the housing together in one place.

You know what other countries do? eg. Japan? they work during the night not during rush hour. Planning.

I like to mention that I never voted for John Tory all 3 times he was up for election.

I drive tour buses from Toronto to New York City and I can tell you I would much rather be driving in New York City instead of Toronto.... Traffic management in Toronto is very poor, lights aren't synchronized, no police directing traffic in major intersections during rush hour traffic, way too many needles bike lanes taking up lanes that could be used to drive, too many pedestrians Jwalking and crossing intersections after the orange hand starts flashing, poor city planning, failing public transit systems, no strictly only bus lanes... Toronto is a mess. New York City has 5 times the amount of cars in Manhattan and yet traffic still continues to flow, sometimes slowly but it continues to flow. Synchronized lights and police in intersections directing traffic during rush hour traffic is mandatory in large cities. Toronto police has to have a seperate division like NYPD does which are traffic officers, all they do is direct traffic and keep intersections from being blocked up and keep traffic moving. Toronto for a city it's size, with so many cars and such a big population it is lacking many things that other cities have who are even smaller then Toronto such as Montreal, Quebec city and even Hamilton. Oh and also Toronto has the most nervous and incompetent drivers behind the wheel. So many people that don't know how to make a left turn, it's unreal. They will only go if they have a green arrow or advance green, otherwise they will sit there and wait for it while others behind them are forced to wait only because they don't know how to set up their vehicles properly in the left turn lane to have a clear site of oncoming traffic to be able to safely execute a left turn... I'll take New York City traffic over Toronto any day, that's how bad Toronto has gotten.
