It's literally like calling Margarate Thatcher 'Robin Hood'. Mourinho's entire time at Chelsea was based on fixing matches through getting penalties awarded by Mike Dean and others. You couldn't possibly be more wrong. However, he was honest *THIS* time, when it wasn't his team, that it was never a penalty. That's very different.

VAR did it's job exactly as it's supposed to. With respect to "offside" decisions, VAR has greater weight than the linesmen. If VAR says it's offside, it's offside. It's not the same with referee made decisions. The ref is the man in charge and VAR will ONLY overturn the ref's decision if there is clear and obvious evidence. The ref saw a penalty, VAR saw a very soft penalty, at best but did not see a conclusive dive. That's not enough, under the current VAR system to reverse the ref's decision.

There was no contact here, and if the referee has already stumbled upon this fall, this dive, then there is a VAR room to call him and say “Danny, come check one more time.” After all, there are referees in that room who have refereed some matches. If this is a penalty for them, then they should never judge anything again.

As a Dane I 100% agree with Mourinho. It was close for a long time but England was the better team today and the danish players ran out of steam in the end. And it is perfectly obvious that the contact DID NOT trip him up, if that was the case you would see it on the Video because it would have changed the momentum of Sterlings legs, which it didn't. They touched (but no impact/change of momentum visible) Sterlings drops to the floor. It was very obviously an act, they slight touching did not cause Sterling to fall over, if that was the case this would have looked a lot different.

The penalty was checked by VAR but they didnt indicate to the ref that he needed to review. So not the refs fault. Plus the error needs to be 'clear and obvious' to be overturned. There was contact from 2 players even if it was minimal so VAR probably thought there was not enough doubt to get ref to review his decision. But for me they should have given him the option to have a second look.

I don't get why VAR hasn't directed the referee to have a look at the monitor once in this tournament. Yes, VAR can't overturn the referee's decisions unless it's a clear and obvious error, but surely VAR can direct the referee to go have a look when it's a dubious situation and have the referee himself make the decision. It feels as though UEFA is too concerned about limiting potential time being wasted on decisions rather than getting those decisions right. And if it is so, what's the point of having VAR in the first place?

In 2018 world cup Var though that it could be penalty for Serbia against Switzerland, they called the referee over and over again and he refused to watch the replay and was suspended for some games. It was never a pen as an English fan.. but the italians play a far dirtier game so let's not compare. Wasn't the English teams fault referees decision

Mourinho like most of us wanted England to win but I agree with him. I do not like the fact that the penalty was given against Denmark and for me it was very unfortunate for it not to be overturned by VAR. It was definitely not a penalty and I think that most England fans if they are being honest would agree.

But Jose being the strategist he is very well knew, that since the brits were at home, had 60.000 spectators cheering them on and Denmark came back from the oven in Baku + traveling, that putting Smeichel against Pickford (maybe if brits weren’t Allowed to laser in smeichels eyes) in a penalty shootout would be a scenario very well worth investing in. Fun fact. Brits didn’t score without pen or OG and they didn’t score after Denmark was forced ahead with ten men. If England don’t win this time they never will.

The VAR official is a disgrace - easy and evident non-call - as an England supporter I didn't get this call. It will be a shadow over the tournament for England

how was it not a penalty? have you not seen the camera angle from behind? it's clear and obvious it's a penalty. The main angle they showed on TV shows it from the side and it's inconclusive and I think everyone is judging it on that angle. Look at it from every angle if you can find footage and u will have to be blind not to accept it was a clear penalty.

@@footyball66 you do realize 99% of people across the world are saying this is not a pen and here even an englishmen is telling you the same 🤦🏻…only english people are saying its a penalty and most others wont admit it but actually justify it by acting like victims from previous games like this is OK…problem is that its not ok…im from argentina and i even admit that the hand of god game was bad but also against germany 2014 final there was a clear penalty not called for argentina that woulda won us the game…the point is you gotta admit when youre wrong but at the same time i kinda get it considering this is your 2nd overall country finals appearance in 100 or so years…still doesnt make it right

@@giantsfan8872the challenge on Sterling in extra time wasn't a penalty, the foul on Kane in about the 75th-80th minute was. As you alluded to, these things even out over time.

@@Hard2hit94 I'm neutral myself, but i think it's beyond dispute they had the Danes on the ropes after a while. then again, they weren't able to convert it into a goal. in football looking better doesn't win matches. goals win matches. and the English couldn't score a decisive goal by the book. this being said, it's indisputable that the English team stands a much better chance in the final. i think Italy would obliterate Denmark, if they had advanced. agast England, i'd say the chances are like 60 to 40 percent: i'd expect Italy to win 3 out of 5 times, but that's not that big of an advantage.

Spain played better than Italy but lost due to penalty shootout same with France versus Switzerland in which France dominated the game. Denmark got robbed of that chance due to sterling diving. Kane’s penalty getting saved(there’s no rebound in penalty shootouts) and Schmeichel having made 9 amazing saves in the game might have shown that England really dodged a bullet by getting an unfair penalty. So yeah I do agree England dominated the game but that doesn’t mean they were out to win anyway. They couldn’t even score the third goal and close the game when Denmark was one man down and the danish players were massively tired while y’all put in foden, Henderson and trippier. So, the game surely would have gotten to penalties if sterling didn’t dive.
