The Amarillo tannery on South Cleveland Street processes cattle hides and trimmings, and some locals say the smell has intensified recently. The tannery tries to limit the smell by washing down the plant and machinery and keeping inventory low. Cow excrement and dust from industrial feedlots can cause health problems if breathed in over time.
