It’s often seems plant based living is a new thing, but here in Jamaica Rastafarians have been eating plant based since for ever, they call it ital. which is derived from the word vital. It was an honour to cook with my friend ‪@chefvitaja‬ this delicious ital stew down by the river in Jamaica.

I’ve never understood why the western world acts as if things only come into existence when “they” discover it.. People have been living off of plant-based diets for a very long time in many different cultures across the globe. 🙄 Thank goodness for channels like this spreading truth and creating a platform for people of all different backgrounds to share their stories👌

Veganism and vegetarians are just now being accepted on a big scale in the USA. I have been vegetarian for 40 years, and back then, people acted like you were a lunatic for not eating a meat based diet. Atleast things here are changing. But yes Indians and others have accepted a vegan and vegetarian diet for many many many many generations

Glad the comments are back on. Ever since the first episode I wanted to say that I absolutely love your newer content. I can't wait to see more of you travelling and discovering new foods around the world. It's such a high quality production, that it could air on BBC. Love your content, keep on and stay strong mate. Edit: Forgot to say that your "garden to table" content and way of life are really inspiring me, and I aspire to go down a similar path in life.

These videos are great Gaz. Those of us who converted, have been vegan for years and who intend to be vegan for life can sometimes lose that fervor we had when we started. It just becomes a normal life. But every day I try to take a second to be grateful to live in a time and place of abundance to be granted the chance to make a compassionate choice. Never forget just how much power, vitality, and compassion we are given from the Earth.

not only have there been explicitly vegan cultures & people throughout history, but prior to industrialization near-every meal was incidentally plant-based as frequent meat-eating was impossible for all but the ruling rich. lots of rich cultural plant-based food traditions exist as a result! excited to see these delicious jamaican dishes 👀

The concept of 'I-Tal' -the'I'-represents the higher states of Consciousness and its inextricable connection to the 'I'nI, viz., We ... Ubuntu-therefore, the etymological arrangement of 'I-Tal' was FIRST conceptualized by the early Rastafari and inextricably linked to the term 'Natural' -organic. Vital was the secondary attachment of the idea and practice!

man I love this chef Vitaja is amazing! I got emotional listening to him speak about the lifestyle and the meaning of connection, I'm in America and I think about how the system has trapped so many people and mostly the new generation of kids are not learning this. Its heartbreaking they have no idea what this connection feels like. I feel having this knowledge is like finding a treasure.. the right thing to do is share it with others, so thank you both for sharing your life with us. Its keeps me inspired to do my part the best way I can.

Donald Watson coined the word vegan in 1944. Archaeologist say plant based diets go back to prehistoric times, I wonder if they knew about B12.
@MrLoknar
@MrLoknar 3 ай бұрын
Fully and successfully plant-based wasn't possible, but there were mostly plant-based people of course, as well as individuals who tried and failed in the early 20th century for example.
@bonniepoole1095
@bonniepoole1095 3 ай бұрын
Prehistoric vegans also consumed insects and soil where B12 has been manufactured by the bacteria residing there. Maybe we're too clean, or chemicals have destroyed soil bacteria, or we don't consume enough raw produce grown in healthy, living soil. No plant or animal manufactures B12, only bacteria do.

God prescribed the Plant based vegan diet in the Garden of Eden 7,000 years ago and the ppl were strong vibrant and never sick, lived to 900 + years until after The Great Flood they had to eat flesh foods and the age went down from 900+ years to 80 years if lucky.

So beautiful and delicious that food and powerful message and history. All those perennial trees avocado, mango, banana, coco, almond trees for past, present and future generations to enjoy. “Power and connection” My grandma was born in 1900 and she was a vegetarian. My father still born in 1933 he is a vegetarian……and through the generations too my daughters the last born in 2005 are vegetarians. All the generations mine yours into home grown, natural nature based food and medicine. Respecting mother nature….and the health of the soil. It feels so good being a vegetarian. Especially not being any part causing suffering to sentient livestock.

Your videos are so inspiring for me. I’m not vegetarian or vegan. I was recommended to eat read meat due to low hemoglobin level in my blood. No iron supplements helped me so far. But I admire the idea of eating more raw unprocessed food not only to support the mother nature but also to be conscious about our health and wellbeing. This is direction I want to follow.
