No one in Italy calls his children Dante. It's a strange and unique name. Ahahah
@youtubeoverthinking58273 жыл бұрын
@Kristopher Carmona I know Dante Alighieri, but Dante it's a real strange and old name (as Michelangelo, Donatello). His name means Durante (means the one who last), and even during the time of Dante Alighieri his name wasn't so used. Because Dante it's a medieval name, but in Italy we use more name from the Bible (Luca, Paolo, Matteo, Gianluca, Gianpaolo, Pietro, Gianpietro ecc.).

I’m half Mexican and when my brother was born my dad wanted to name him Trevor, but my mom first wanted to ask my grandfather what he thought of the name. My grandfather jumped out of his seat and ran into the hospital room looking for my mom and exclaimed in broken English “Maria! Whatever you do! Do NOT name that boy! No trevor!” And my very white dad was so confused but I was laughing hysterically. My brother’s name ended up being Juan Guillermo McKenna and then my name is literally Ashley Grace McKenna😂

That poor lady. I'm Italian, and I find it very reasonable that she wouldn't like "Kanye", since to her it sounds like "cagne" that in Italian means "female dogs", a very insulting expression. Besides, with a name like Joe she got the closest she could get to find a name that could respect her origins and American culture (it sounds like Gio, that is a nickname for some Italian names like Giovanni or Giorgio). I'm with her.

Simone Cavanna I'm Portuguese and half Spanish born on Madeira island and living in the UK at present And I agree it's what it sounds to them in their language. I remember I had a friend from Russia called Galina I was on the phone telling my parents about her and they couldn't believe her name and couldn't stop laughing....it means chicken in both languages or sounds very similar to chicken. And they couldn't understand why anyone would name their child that, I had to explain the Russian language is totally different 😊

That's the tipical sud italian/old italians way, when they don't understand something they throw words that doesn't exist based on the word that you are saying, they start just changing the vocals (like with Kanya Kunya) and then they escalate to completely casual words that doesn't make sense, also then there is the version with just all the vocals like "Kanya kenya kunya konya"

The mesmerizing thing about older Italian people is that they all have amazing teeth!! When I first moved to Italy I thought they all had fake teeth, but I quickly learned they all still have their own teeth, and they look amazing!! (Not what I was used to in my own country) lol Also, very few of the older generation wear eyeglasses, like this lady here.

I understand very well the grandmother because l am Greek. We are also reacting with the same way. The babies have the names of their grandmothers and grandfathers. First of the fathers side and then from mothers. This is a n ethos(custom) coming through centuries because of our patriarchal roots. Nowadays is not so strong but still is the main way of giving names to children. In my opinion it is respect to our parents of both sides. I thing it is touching to rehear the names of your parents when they are not with us any more

Dante is a nice Italian name. After all those wars and fighting for survival and pinching pennies and scraping everything together for your family to survive over generations and generations coming to America to try to make a better life for yourself you want to preserve your Italian heritage Woods with a nice Italian name you know what to give respect to all the hard for your survival and the survival of their family and their Italian identity, cuz it's an identity of the family.
