Italian greyhounds a little insane but a lot of fun! Especially Claudia

I just lost mine, whom I never even meant to have, after 17.5 years of absolute unconditional love. I overheard an employee saying a dog at the local puppy shop wasn’t even selling after months of lowering her from $5000 to $4200 to $3000 to $1800 to $499 and finally $99 and so her puppy mill would be there at closing in two hours to pick her up. I asked the employee what that meant for her, they said it was a very sad fate as she would be taken back and kept perpetually pregnant and caged for the next seven years or so. I said, “I’ll take her then!” I wasn’t even looking for a dog. I freaked out after I signed my receipt, “omg, what kind of dog did I just buy!? A wha-..Italian what!? Italian greyhound!? What the heck is that!?” A minute later they brought her out and put her in my arms and I immediately was fond of her. But an hour or two later, I put her in her cage and went to bed but she just screamed and cried downstairs. So I told her firmly, “don’t you dare get used to this! You can sleep with me one night only! I mean it!” Little did I know that that was thee biggest crock I ever told anyone. After waking up with her after thee most heavenly and wonderful sleep ever, I looked in the nook of my arm and saw her little tiny body and little face fast asleep, taking a deep breath in and then exhaling with a blubba-lubba-lubba of her lips doing a vibrating snore with her head on my shoulder and I was immediately totally in love with her at that point and there wasn’t a night that we ever slept apart again. She was my favorite thing on the whole entire earth and everything I did was for her, whether it was at doggy summer camp, in one of probably ten other countries, post hook up when I broke the news, “sorry, but there’s only one girl I will ever love and sleep with, do you…do you mind!? ::unlocking door and motioning a polite go away please::” We were never apart. The day she died, I took her to bed one last time and put her how she loved to sleep and I think I stayed up three or four hours just bawling and snotting all over and choking on my tears till I finally passed out around sunrise. And at the cremator, I kept going back again and again to hug her one last time and make sure I remembered her face…since then I have never had peaceful sleep again, I simply can’t carry on, and I get so angry and hateful looking at Iggies just thinking, “yea, I know what you’re thinking! But you’re NOTHING compared to her. You’ll NEVER be anything like her!” Although I just know the puppies are thinking, “um, we don’t even know what things are! We’re just babies!” Poor things. But I can’t help it… I know it is a very bold prediction, however I stand by it. I don’t see how I could ever love anyone the way or as much as I loved her. I just can’t imagine anyone, human or animal, being anything near the absolute angel she was and if I am right about that, I won’t regret it at all. Like they say, you can’t really know love until you have loved a sight hound. And after never having any interest in them whatsoever and then spending 17 years of my life with one, I stand by it. You just can’t imagine what love is without knowing just how heavenly it is to love and be loved by a sight hound…or maybe I am wrong about that, maybe it is simply that you can’t know absolute unconditional love unless you knew my baby girl… 😭 It feels like my heart will never heal… I will never understand how people over and over by the thousands passed up, even for $99, this little girl who was the most lovable and perfect creature who ever lived. They can’t even imagine what they missed out on. An angel…

@@royalblood9437 well, if you want a dog you must take care of constantly, clothe (they are considered hairless), brush teeth, have constantly next to you, sleep in your bed, and never be able to step outside without a crowd gathering telling you how adorable your dog is and asking what kind it is, you want an Italian greyhound for sure. I can't say that yours will be like mine who loved to go camping, to the dunes, to the lake and jump in to swim in her little life vest, she would do EVERYTHING as long as we were together. But it will love you to death and you will think of it as a child. Girls are more independent and boys are more lovey dovey...however, I can't imagine if my baby had been a boy she was already so glued to me. Whichever you get, they are hard to potty train. You need to neuter a boy before six months so he doesn't mark. And mine took so long...I was going on like seventeen months not making any progress on potty training. But I went out of town for four nights and left her with my mom and dad and they had three dogs who use a doggy door. They didn't do ANYTHING...but I came back and she was 100% potty trained. I guess she just needed to see the other dogs do it and she copied them and in the next 16 years, she never once had a potty accident. I got her a doggy door and she was fine. The next time she pees on the carpet was the day she died. She was too weak to stand as she died and she peed on the floor and in the blanket I wrapped her in as she went, but obviously I didn't care one bit about that. Hey is Royal your last name?? @@BurnerAddress95Great story man, it must be the most beautiful and crushing thing to develop a connection with a living being like that. I'll definitely get a sight hound down the line, probably a whippet or an Iggy, but I'm going to wait until I settle down somewhere. Nothing would crush me more than not being able to make a dog I care for happy. And no, Royal definitely isn't my last name, I wish 😅

discovered this breed about a year ago. We were told our new rescue was a chihuahua/ terrier, instead we found out it was an Italian Greyhound. The absolutely most awesome dog!!! Highly highly recommend!!

Every dog is different. I have 4 iggys and she’s very different to the rest. She’s walked a lot also in the park allowed to run and still mainly sleeps at home but is distinctively a more intense personality. She is quieter and shy out and more crazy at home. We’ve met a few of her sibling and talk to the owners and they are the same as her all also owning other iggys who are calmer and easier than her or her siblings 😂😅

She needs the dog park to relieve the pent up energy she has. Daily. CBD oil will also calm her down. My greyhound has a difficult time when it rains outside and he trembles uncontrollably. A little spritz of CBD oil (hemp oil - no thc) and he calms down within minutes.

The chewing foot sometimes its a ign of allergy... it happen to mine. A vet can help you find out if thats the case.

She doesn’t have any allergies absolutely no sign of any. She just likes to chew she chews her older siblings feet and my hands if I let her, we have lots of rubber chew toys now cause she loves them but if one isn’t in reach she just uses her foot
