As expressive people, Italians have no problem showing you how they feel using their hands. Having grown up with an Italian mother and family as well as travelled around Italy for a month, I have come to understand the importance of understanding Italian hand gestures and want to pass on my knowledge to you...with help from my Nonna

I don't know why so many italians have got angry after watching this video. I'm italian, and that's so funny! I laughed all video long! Come on, that's not a mockery, it's just a fun video and I can say, as italian, that most of that gestures are actually very used. So slow down, let's all laugh together and be happy. Interesting video. It's weird because of all the Italian language courses I took there was no mention of Italian gestures. Of course when I got to Italy I had that WTF moment. Honestly I thought people were fighting when I first saw Italians actively communicating because there was so much more energy and contact then I'm use to in mid-western US (are we dead inside?). I think the gestures help a lot because they work like a mini language that (though I've noticed slit variations) most Italians can understand and it will get you buy especially when your language skills don't (my Italian is terrible). This gestures are definitely not used exclusively in Naples, I lived for three years in Lombardia, my husband is Italian and he regularly uses about half of those you showed. Thanks, much love.

These gestures are common, especially in Southern Italy. In the present day no Italian woman dress this way anymore ( the last time that I saw a woman with this " outfit " it was in the early 70s ). . Anyway I think that she is very nice and funny and I enjoyed the video.

Im Italian and my parents come from Sicily and this is not stereotyping. Italians do talk with their hands, my nonna used to do it all the time. My mom still does, and I don't always use these gestures but I do talk with my hands. She isn't saying that all we do is talk with our hands like we don't know how to speak. She is just saying its apart of Italian culture. Its supposed to be funny. I make fun of it all the time. These gestures were developed in small towns in Italy, mostly in the South. Now its just a habit that has been passed down, nothing to do with education. I honestly didn't recognize all of them because different regions have their own gestures. But really funny video, I know that you didn't mean anything mean by it.

I don't mean to sound mean, but more than you teaching, it shows how well you have learned. Yet, you're not quite there still. Some are a bit artificial. I realize it takes as little as having the hand too high or too low, or at a wrong angle to mess it up, but I wouldn't take this content 100% as worth learning from. Also, the face expressions are just as crucial and if you do everything in a clownish way it takes a lot away from the gesture. My two bits.
