Italian Riviera, Italy - the Cinque Terre region and town of Vernazza, a tour. Let's go visit Vernazza which is a town and commune located in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, northwestern Italy. Vernazza is one of the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre region. Vernazza is the fourth town heading north, has no car traffic, and remains one of the truest "fishing villages" on the Italian Riviera. Vernazza is the only natural port of Cinque Terre and is famous for its elegant houses.
In this video, I will point out why I was so disappointed in Vernazza. It was not just the huge crowds but the garbage (rubbish) all over the two beaches (including the Harbour beach) and the unpainted houses (which, according to some guide books, we supposed to look beautiful).
The Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera. It is in the Liguria region of Italy, to the west of the city of La Spezia, and comprises five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all part of the Cinque Terre National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I’m sorry, but I was in Vernazza in Sept. 2017 and I loved the town. I don’t think the beach is the main attraction to this wonderful place. If you want to judge the town on just the beach, that’s very unfortunate. I found this to be one of the most naturally beautiful places I’ve ever been. The locals were very friendly, the local food was great, and I our B&B was quite comfortable. The crowds were not that bad in late September, so I would disagree with your opinion and highly recommend this area and town for those who want to experience various areas of Italy. Just a side note, we spent 3 weeks in Italy, visiting Venice, Cinque Terre, Florence, the Amalfi Coast and Rome. Vernazza is definitely one of the places I would return too.

Very well described vid Vic, and yes you seem to have summed it all up. Such small things to clear up the garbage could make big aesthetic difference but not to the bottom line, or it would be done. It's a bit like Toamina. Check out Santillana del Mar in Spain for a quaint town, no cars allowed. Cave paintings, history, unusual museum, scenery. You can still wash your clothes in the washing place in the middle of the town!

Thank you for your suggestion, I will be going to Spain, possibly drive there, this September.. What amazes me here is that it would take so little effort (and money) to clean up these touristy places and they do not even think of doing it, I saw exactly the same thing in Greece and Portugal....

Are you not part of the crowd yourself? You are in their view and path just as much as they are in yours 😊 you should say "we" have overcrowded it, "we" are too many, "we" are in each other's way, "we" are ruining it for ourselves.

Hi Vic, I just came across your video. Thank you for your honest review of Vernazza. I plan to go to Italy next year and will visit Manarola & Monterosso. From Monterosso I will go to Milan. Is there a train that go straight to this route? Thank you.

Yes, I can’t for the life of me understand why people would want to travel to see a polluted beach, a few boats, and scruffy houses everywhere .....just what IS the attraction ? .... when there are far more beautiful places in Italy to spend your time?
