When I was in college I would invite all of the neighbors to a dinner. I lived in the same apartment complex as the international student community. We would all take turns cooking a bunch of food from our homes (and getting drunk). We had a bunch of great dinners but I always regret forgetting to add the heavy cream to the gravy for our country fried steaks. 🤦

Yeah I'm Italian descent. My great-great-great-grandmother came here through Ellis Island on one of the boats. I never understood what my black friends were talking about when they said that white people cook Bland food. I told them they'd either never met an Italian or they'd never met a southerner. Then I saw some of the videos that they were basing that judgment on. Then I cooked for them and change their minds. My mom learned to cook from her mom and dad so I've never truly had a Bland home cooked meal. And my heart breaks for those who have

I'm currently in Florence and this is the first Ike I've ever been abroad. I did not look up how Italians treat their coffee and so an hour after arriving at the place I'm staying, my roommates and I went to have lunch. It was 1pm and I, getting zero sleep on the plane, needed caffeine. I saw the golden word "cappuccino" on the menu and I ordered it. The waiter was pissed and if he could murder me, I'm sure he would. And that's how I learned to never order a cappuccino after 11am unless it's with a light snack.

Country fried steak is like schnitzel. Grits = polenta (as mentioned), and sausage gravy is like the gravy that is served with schnitzel &/or spaetzle (small noodles/dumplings made from a batter). These are pretty common dishes in Germany, Austria, parts of France & Italy, the Slavic & Nordic regions, and there are similar breaded cutlets with sauce/gravy in almost every cuisine. @laceyalexander7243 I have never seen anyone from the country name something country. 99% of the times that's someone from a city, viewing it for the first time so they call it country. At the very most we have "cowboy casserole" but just like everyone else around the world we don't name things after ourselves, that comes to fruition from someone foreign to whatever the subject is.

Seeing things like this just makes me happy. I love when people from other parts of the world get to experience new twists on dishes from their homes or from different cultures. One of the greatest things about this country is that you can find food that originates in almost any other culture. Not always in your city, but somewhere in the country, you can find it.
