Before the season began and people were talking about how great an off season the Dodgers had I said wait till the end of the season to find out. If the Dodgers don't do any better in the post season then they spent $1B to do what they always do. With the expanded playoffs it is much harder to win a championship. It isn't the best teams over 162 games that make World Series. It the teams that are hot going into October. The rules of player acquisition and payroll have changed. Spending lots of money is less likely to get you a championship now. I think that is why Scott Boros failed to get his clients the big bucks. The smart teams know paying big money does not guarentee success.
@sportsfansports3353
@sportsfansports3353 26 күн бұрын
Payroll has a strong correlation with making the playoffs, but a much weaker correlation with going on to win the World Series. In part because you are up against other high payroll team, and in part because the series are relatively small samples and a guy's paycheck doesn't help him in one at-bat (or even four).

The Dodger roster is fundamentally flawed. It is built wrong to be consistent. The pitching staff is loaded with pitchers that are consistently hurt. Every year the same names pop up along with some fresh faces. If a player is injury prone, stop signing them. The amount of wasted salaries year after year is staggering. While the Dodgers don't fret the money much their roster is still built incorrectly for post season play. In this I mean their offense. The LA offense is built on power but many of those power hitters strikeout way above acceptable levels while hitting for a poor batting average. This results in runners being left on base way too often. Sacrifices, runners being advanced, etc. often don't happen because they don't make contact with the ball. Even some of their backup players are strikeout machines and many simply hit for unacceptably low averages. These strikeout prone hitters perform even worse against solid pitching, which is precisely what the team faces in post season play. So if they aren't hitting home runs, they seldom score many runs and they don't hit many home runs against good pitching. It is a recipe for failure in the post season. They get away with it in the regular season because they face a lot of sub par pitching but they don't see that much in the playoffs. I'll list batting average, strikeout percentage and runners left on base for anyone hitting below .265. Highest strikeout percentages to lowest. BA - STRIKEOUT PERCENTAGE - LOB (strikeout pct. does not include uncounted AB's for walks/sac) James Outman: .158 _ 39.2% _ 74 Chris Taylor: .161 _ 37.8% _ 54 Cavan Biggio: .175 _ 37.5% _ 85 Max Muncy: .233 _ 36% _ 97 Teoscar Hernandez: .261 _ 30.8% _ 191 Austin Barnes: .259 _ 27.1% _ 41 Andy Pages: .257 _ 26.8% _ 122 Kiki Hernandez: .191 _ 23.2% _ 94 Gavin Lux: .216 _ 21.6% _ 116 Miguel Vargas: .250 _ 20% _ 26 Jason Heyward: .203 _ 17.8% _ 49 The amount of LOB for some of these players with low AB's is staggering. Outman, CT and Biggio are disasters at the plate. They kill far more opportunities than they assist or create. I am not a fan of Muncy's hitting. Yes he has power but if you watched all season long prior to his injury, he was killing innings with his strikeouts. Betts, Ohtani and/or Freddie would get on base and Muncy would whiff. No advancement and then Teo would come up and often whiff or have a harmless out ending the inning. The Dodger front office values power over contact and they pay for it in the post season. They need players who put the ball in play and strikeout less than 25% of their AB's. Look at the Diamondbacks. If they had LA's pitching, they'd be one of the best teams in baseball. Their roster and far lower salaries is based upon contact and they score runs. Unfortunately their pitching has often been atrocious. Last year it wasn't as bad and you saw what happened, they made it to the series.
@TiagoGomez-hb9te

@@bman2080808 You don't win playoff baseball games off of supetstars. You win *playoff games* off of _roleplayers_ who hit for contact, *not* role players who hit for home runs but strike out alot. In a batting lineup comprised out of 9 hitters, you only need 2-3 batters who hit for power. *Everyone in that batting lineup* needs to at the very least have a high batting average stat who can also avoid striking out, _including_ power hitters. Baseball isn't like most other professional sports where you just your superstars to thrive in the postseason. The Phillies learned this the hard way by constructing a batting lineup of nothing but guys who it for power and that streaky lineup costed then badly in the postseason...

120 win teams aren't bought. 90+ wins every year is what you buy (hell, Padres and Mets couldn't even buy that). Anything above that takes team construction, timing and luck. Dodgers support players have sucked this year. Pitchers are all injured. They'll still win at least 95, probably 100 games.

The great equalizer for the rest of baseball versus the Dodgers is...Dave Roberts. Just an opinion of course, more gut feeling hunch than a thorough examination. But after about a decade of underwhelming results in the post-season, if you look at the one constant that has been there each season, it's Dave Roberts. He is the common denominator. There have been others who have talked about his tactics and in-game decision making being questionable, if sometimes perplexing. No Manager is perfect. But with the exception of one season, the body of evidence seems to demonstrate that once the pressure of post-season arrives, Roberts can't seem to Manage his Roster to ultimate victory over other teams with less talent.

This ain't it. Dodgers are literally relying on minor league arms for pitching right now. On top of that, Mookie has been injured for about a month now yet they still have the 5th-best record in baseball and are currently 8 games in 1st place in their division. ALSO, they currently have a better record now than they did last season at this point. You're just spreading misinformation at this point.

Baseball is a broken sport, they should have a trophy for 8 teams (biggest payrolls) and a separate one for everyone else. Everyone not just players from US and Canada should be made to be draft eligible. It doesn't help your sports when only 6 teams are realistic contenders for players from China/Japan/ Korea pitchers. Plus Manfred is the absolute worst commissioner is all sports. Yes, $ doesn't buy you championships but it sure helps when you can make mistakes and cover them up with more money. Do you think If a team like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Oakland or Milwaukee signs a bad contract they can sweep it under the rug like New York or LA can. Ever fan base needs to have the feeling they can win in all each year not just a select few. ( I know there are teams that have bad ownership/ management but that's on them) We need every fan base to be able to sign a few home grown talents to big contracts not just have a six year rental periods before they go on to greener pastures. Rinse and repeat MLB needs to be more like the NFL the way they market themselves and run their league but unfortunately they will never get the PA to agree to a soft or hard cap to make a level playing field and I don't blame foreign players wanting to play for East/West coast teams. Having all players being made available to draft is a great start ( which is broken because you have to pay a posting fee to the foreign team but this could be fixed by having MLB/ PA pay the posting fees to have the players available for the draft) I know if your a fan of a large market team it sounds like I have sour grapes but league's revenue popularity and future growth will only increase when every fan base is invested.

The main reason they got Sho-time was the big bucks they are making off him because they are making a ton between the interest they have to put in the bank every year, the ad revenue, and merch! So, why not sign the best player? By the way, the Dodgers are at a better pace than they were last year at this time, while missing a big chunk of that payroll with players injured I just think you like stirring the poop with some of your videos! it's been weird over the years how superstars have come to the Dodgers and been very average for the first few years. They can still play defense but seem to forget how to hit especially in clutch moments. Also, we tend to have tons of pitching injuries every season. I know every team does but it just seems to be worse for the Dodgers. Honestly, Yamamoto was never injured in Japan and now he is on the IL his first year woth the boys in blue. WTF???
@adamkoslin9302
@adamkoslin9302 26 күн бұрын
To be fair to Yamamoto, the MLB ball is significantly different than the NPB ball, which can be a problem for early transplants, especially ones that throw anatomically-taxing pitches like splitters. Senga with the Mets got hurt too.

You already did one on the Yankees, but do another more detailed video on how the Yankees were 50-22 before going 6-17 over their next 23 games with no sighs of it getting better. Unlike the Dodgers, the Yankees lost their first place to the Orioles during that slump. It’s so much easier to have 3 tries in a series than just 2 plus home teams have a losing record in the wild card rounds.

What changes have they implemented the last several years?
