ITAPERUNA, Brazil | The Land of Promise.
Itaperuna, the land of promise. Itaperuna is an important city in the Northwest of Rio de Janeiro. Explore rural tourism through the charms of the land of promise, my hometown, walking part of the path of the black stone and allow yourself to feel the affection of the itaperunenses, a welcoming people. On May 10th, 2023, Itaperuna turned 134.
Until the sixteenth century, the region was inhabited by the Puris Indians. From then on, the region was occupied by bandeirantes and adventurers who demanded the lowing by the tributaries of the left bank of the Paraíba do Sul River.
The predominant economic activity became cattle raising, which developed on farms of large extensions.

= 1890 - Decree 156 - Annexation of the 1st District of Itaperuna (S. José do Avaí) of much of the District of Laje.
= 1891 - Decree 212 - Annexation of part of the District of Lage (LAJE) and the District of the Nativity.
= 1892 - The three municipalities are merged into one: Itaperuna, Natividade and Bom Jesus, with the definitive name of Itaperuna.
A unique case in the history of Brazil, is that Itaperuna had, in 1889, the first republican members of the City Council of Brazil, in full monarchical regime.

Boa Ventura, Raposo, Comendador Venâncio, Retiro do Muriaé, Itajara and Nossa Senhora da Penha.
The coffee culture was a major highlight in the city's economy for more than four decades, making it, in 1927, the largest national producer.
The decline in coffee activity caused the region to suffer strong regressive effects.
Beef cattle ranching then developed focused on supplying large slaughterhouses and slaughterhouses, and later milk production was developed, stimulated by the presence of the Glória powdered milk factory.
