In this episode, I am exploring Erg Chebbi, the sand dune field at Merzouga. I am riding over 100 kilometers into the desert and try to ride some sand dunes along the way. I am inexperienced with sand dunes and my CRF300L Rally is heavy - Even though I didn't bring much luggage, a full tank of fuel will do the trick and I soon get buried into the sand with my rear tyre.

@@2Malachi with that response, I can only assume you've never been into a desert, and so have no appreciation of how magnificent "just sand" can be. From the ever-changing landscapes, hues of colours, dune formations, ripples, textures, tones, lighting, remnants of former dwellings, flora and fauna etc. Deserts are incredibly beautiful in their starkness and so unbelievably "alive". They're one of my most favourite landscapes I've had the great opportunity to explore - from the Karoo, Kalahari and Namibian deserts in Southern Africa, to the Grand Bara, Nyiri, Danakil, Nubian and Sahara in north and eastern Africa - they're truly breathtaking! And, I can totally understand why Noraly loves riding there ...

@@2Malachi surprisingly, deserts ARE living, alive and dynamic ecosystems. Understandably, not everyone's cuppa tea ... especially, the scorching heat by day, cold at night and pretty wild, blinding sand winds. It's quite something to experience. 😎😎

I’ve been going to ride the Morocco desert from 12 years ago. Last year I went with my family, so I rented a dacia 4x4 duster in marrakech. Amazing experience, repeating some desert tracks on car this time. We enjoyed a lot...And you know What? It’s easier to go by car when you go on sand. My wife loved it. Cheap travel. One week renting goes for 700 euro. Flights 120 euro for each one. Staying there 50 euro for the couple per day.

The drone view - human trails through Nature's vast wind sculpture, with bits of vegetation, in spite of the terrain - really awe inspiring! Noraly, rules for riding the dunes: #1, don’t ride by yourself. #2, never go over the top of a dune you cannot see over. The windward side is usually pretty gently sloped, but the leeward side is often very steep and may have a witches eye at the bottom. This is like a funnel, and if you hit the bottom of the witches eye with any speed you will crash and likely get hurt. When you get to the crest of the dune, turn parallel to it, look over, then pick your path and go down. #3, stay in the tire tracks, this is where the experienced riders have ridden and is likely the proper route. If you go into virgin sand you will probably get stuck. #4 never stop going uphill, you will bury yourself trying to get going again. Get to the top, then stop. On a motorcycle speed is your friend, try to maintain as much speed as you can to float on top, slow down, you go down. And you know how much better a paddle tire works from the bike you rode in Idaho. If you can, put one of these on before you go to the dunes. There is a rhythm to the dunes, you don’t just go up and down, you ride the bowls, crest the top and ride the next bowl. This is an acquired talent. Getting in rhythm with the dunes and flying through them is one of the most fun things I’ve done.

This ride is scary. One of the golden rule of desert/dune riding is never go alone. But what to do, itchy boots is always alone!! Great ride, great determination, great video. Thank you Norally for bringing us along with you.

Not only wonderful views but also such determination ,a real example to us all on what can be done. Something that is often forgotten is the amount of work entailed after the riding ,that is the time and skill required that it takes to view and edit the multiple videos to produce the finished product . Great job. Thanks 👍

Riding through those dunes Noraly was probably thinking she'd rather cross crocodile infested rivers in Central America or a river in the Amazon via a steel cage on a cable! Always interesting to see how the local people can scratch out an existence in such a harsh environment. And yes the drone shots offer up an absolutely incredible perspective! Now I think I'm going to buy some dates! Thank you for our Monday IB fix! Ride Safe.❤❤

Noraly, the reason you have 1: 5 million subscribers is video footage like this. What you do alone is just not doable, do you scream, do you cry, no, you have a date ( ! ) ,smile and carry on ............ truly amazing, well done.

One thing for sure you are not lacking in tenacity and common sense . In my motocross days the sandtracks taught us a lesson real quick . WE...had to totally change our riding styles in Sand. On the hard packed clay of Oklahoma , Deep rich soils of Missouri , Illinois and Arkansas we could go as fast as we had the guts to go . But in the sandy tracks of some Texas tracks you and the bike had to go at maximum speeds and revs or look like an absolute beginner . You did very well and you are smart enough to know your bike was too underpowered and heavy for deep sand . You are an amazing rider Loraly...your videos are probably in my top 3 . One is Kelly who does shark diving , Deep sea fishing , snorkeling and all things in nature ( she just went fishing for piranha) and a young lady in California who builds and races top level cars and has a real thirst for life are my favorites . You're all top level next generation women ! PK

The pre-view at the end of this video reminds me so much of my trip back in 1987. We were in a similar river oasis south of Errachidia. (pre-Sahara area) These canal systems are very clever designs specially for crop irrigation. Instead of letting all the water rush downstream they divert some of the water into narrow less declining slow flowing canals. Then they divert some of the water on a patch of land, then some on another patch of land. And so on. The local people grow all kinds of vegetables and dades, etc. Absolutely wonderful to see. So be sure to watch next episode!

I guess I have watched pretty much all her videos. Not really in order though, kind of started following in season 5 and then worked backwards. Doing it that way really made me aware of the continual improvement of all the skills that she utlizes, from riding skills to story telling, video capture and editing. I am a bit to old to follow her career path but for those that are interested, try to just jump around in the time line and study the evolution of the skill sets. If you just follow in a linear fashion the progression hard to catch because it is gradual but continual. From a novice to a master of her craft(s) in around 4 years. Nobody does it better!!

Indeed, you are a strong woman with ten men, making your way through the sands of the Moroccan desert without fear, and despite the drowning of the bike, you took it out by yourself without help (indeed, you are strong) so that God protects you everywhere. I also enjoyed this video and your beautiful photography through the drone, it gave the place an indescribable aesthetic character In words, greetings to you from the largest city in Morocco "Casablanca" ✨🌹🌹✨

Hey Noraly I have had an epiphany. When people ask a mountaineer why they climb a mountain, that is full of risks, uncertainties and danger, the mountaineer simply says " because it's there". You my friend are the equivalent of that mountaineer. Your unending determination to conquer these challenges on Alaska are inspirational. Please ride to your limits Noraly and always be aware of the environment

Watching Noraly in the Dunes brings back some great memories and moments of terror but I never did them alone. Those Dunes move constantly. What was here today will be somewhere else tomorrow. Navigation is hard enough today. Imagine the Nomads finding their way 500 years before GPS . Thank you for another excellent adventure.

I'm a grown man. But today I broke down crying. The tragedy of my life it just hurt too much. Watching Noraly travel I was drawn into the memories of my travels in the 70's, 80's and early 90's. I loved my Honda but it's gone now. I had an accident at work. My travels ended. I don't walk very well these days. My friends died and I'm still aching. I've been exercising a lot and trying to get myself healthy so I can do one last trip.

Who would of thought so much sand could be so beautiful, but with your camera and drone work Noraly it is surly one of the worlds wonders. How you keep battling on in such situations is surly another, the dedication and determination you show is just simply on another level. So happy to see you winning through in what must of been just sheer hard work for you. Hoping you keep conquering your goals and do well in this adventure. Sadly we have lost ( for the time being anyway ) Eva Zu Beck, who is just as much admired by all, two great and talented lady's that the world needs right now. Keep safe as always Noraly, and thank you for making this world of ours such a much better place. 👍👑
