If you are serious about learning french then find a French radio station or a news feed from Paris and let it run in the background as much as you can stand. After you learn the first 100 or so words in your course you will start to follow the gist of the dialogue and will also pick up "stock phrases" that native speakers sort of run together. Trust me it really helps.

FYI .......... There is an EP-2 grease called L-427 by Kendall. It's the blue grease that is rated high temp and pressure. Is it overkill ??? YUP......... BUT it's the best on the market anything that requires greasing. Has a lower chance of gumming up and helps dispel water. It was widely used in the steel mill I worked and the mtn peeps swore by it. Just hope it's available down there .............. enjoy

Hi guys! I know that a lot of people have offered advice on winch cleaning….here’s mine, based on 40 years as a Mechanical Engineer of which 13 was spent as liveaboard permanent crew/engineer on superyachts of various types and sizes. Strip winches in the afternoon and put everything in one or more tubs/buckets. Fill with enough diesel to cover the greasy bits and slop a bit over everything with a paintbrush. Put in a safe corner where nothing will get knocked over. Go to the bar, have tapas and a few cold ones. Go back to boat and chill/sleep. Next morning have bacon and eggs, take second mug of tea/coffee outside and retrieve tubs/buckets full of winch bits, finish drink before proceeding further because coffee plus diesel sucks. Use stiff washing up brush to clean grease off parts in tub, most of it will pretty much fall off. Use wood kebab stick or similar to shift any really hard scabby grease traces from between gear teeth. Anything like gears that have rust on them, hit with a wire brush. Hit spindles with green Scotchbrite if there’s any brown lacquering of broken down grease left. (Use green kitchen scouring pad if you can’t get proper Scotchbrite pads.) Finally, rinse everything off with either a little petrol or brake cleaner/degreaser spray into diesel tub and put clean parts on clean paper towel in a tray. Decant filthy diesel and rinse solvent into empty engine oil container, seal it immediately and put in safe corner. Reassemble winches with fresh lube. Feel a warm glow of satisfaction. It is now lunchtime so head ashore, drop off oil container full of diesel/horrible gunk in appropriate place, head to bar, have tapas and a few cold ones…. I rest my case. 😁 Cheers, R.

gasoline in a bucket with a brush cleans grease off with ease or kerosene just the disposal of liquid is a little tricky. Teflon grease is good but expensive

DANGER--Awww crap Bill you put regular 5w-30 motor oil in your compressor. I have a similar compressor the Yong Heng on my Catalina 30. The thing is that oil will make you sick or k-ill ya. I didn't get a good look at the bottle, but unless you buy food grade synthetic compressor oil regular motor oil will not work it contaminates the air. I buy Lube-V. Please don't bite it from bad compressor oil, I enjoy your channel and met you in Annapolis at the boat show so I feel a personal connection and desire for you folks to make it in life.

Nothing quite as satisfying as cleaning a winch. Just complicated enough to make you pay attention, but not really that difficult, doesn’t take too much time and the result is far better than the “before picture”. Only possible downside is accidentally dropping one of the bearings overboard … which I’ve done 😳

in a perfect world having all the parts cleaned with mineral spirits in an ultrasonic cleaner. If a local machine shop has one that would be worth the extra cost. Not really applicable to you now but if you are doing this in a marina in the USA or Canada, highly recommend.

Very satisfying to get things like that all cleaned up and well greased again, speaking from experience from my own projects here. I find it funny how satisfying it is to watch things like that on your channel:) Always a pleasure to see you both. Have you considered an inexpensive ultrasonic parts bath? You could put winch parts and engine parts in it with solvents or cleansers and it would do 95% of the work for you.

I have used no fume Easy Off oven cleaner on squirrel cages and gears very successfully….. spray them real good and let them set for 30 minutes and spray clean with water 😊

I've heard it's best possible to substitute vegetable oil for oil on dive compressors

Hey Guys... I have had insomnia most of my life and tried al l sorts of pills and potions, however they all leave me feeling lithargic the next day including low doses of malatonin... however I found wearing the foam ear protection plugs (found at a hardware store) work really well and you'll be surprised by the amount of sleep you will get, just find the plugs more suited to your ear size lol... and best of all drug/pill free, it blocks out 'other noises) and by listening to your own rythmic breathing... worth a try for a few bucks and sleep, Btw i have been cancer free for 10 yrs now...

Ive found paraffin and a toothbrush are your best buddies when cleaning winches :)

Um if you put Regular 5w-30 in youll have to change out you filter media and clean the housings. My filter media is 4 ft long strapped to a stick. I worry about such a small filter stack as well. Most professional grade compressors have two cylinders on the side slightly taller than the one on yours.

And sometimes the work never seems to be done! All this stuff being done now will give you a better shot to enjoying French Polynesia! Leaving time is getting closer!

Next time you have to clean dirty greasy parts up get a can or two of either , spray starting fluid , it cleans that stuff up almost instantly . It works a hundred times faster than the degreaser that you are using ..It will also remove any grease or oil that you get on your clothes .

Why would u go through all that trouble? A bucket, couple cups diesel or kerosene, and a toothbrush. Comes clean as a whistle and is a lubricant as well. Add white lithium grease, and good to go
