Gale played a big role in her sister's demise. Cause it was his idea. And It played out way worse; Thats why most book and movie fans resent him... HOWEVER, when gale was designing the trap, he knew what it was for, and if he didn’t know who it was for, he at least knew why he was making it- to take lives, the lives of what HE deemed to be good enough to be disposable. Even children. Yes, having prim rush in wasn’t calculated, it was unfortunate; Gale would have never known she was even there - but what he did made it...so in Katnis's mind, he also contriubted to killing her.

Honestly I think prim was there on purpose cause let’s be honest in the books Coin is a control freak and feels like she has to be in control of everything so she knew who would be in the medic line up that was out to help I think she purposely put prom in the line up or saw she was in the line up and purposely didn’t take her name off even tho she knew what they were about to do cause remember she hated that she couldn’t control katniss and that she had no power over her so she used katniss one true weakness against her to finally break her completely but she didn’t think that snow and katniss would talk or that katniss would still be mentally able to think for herself so she thought katniss would just blame it on snow like at first she did until she had that talk with snow I hope that made sense

In the books there was a natural build up for Katniss’s suspicions of Coin really right from the beginning! For example, Coin had Katniss’s prep team from the capital imprisoned in district 13, and from that moment on Katniss knew that human life to Coin was only valuable if of use to her and not a threat to her power (just like Snow). Even Plutarch was surprised about the prep team. Mair is right, you both should read the books! The films are really, really good, but the books expand on the details and answer all your unanswered questions 😁

Gale becomes what he was fighting against and that's what everyone despises about him. He attempts to understand what Katniss experienced because he watched it... but he has no idea...
@Simplenotion
@Simplenotion 6 ай бұрын
I disagree. Gale is also a teenager. He experienced district 12 being torn to shreds. He's traumatized as well. To him Coin and her strategies seemed like the logical way of overthrowing the Capitol. There really is not a lot of "right and wrong" in war situations like these. Things tend to become very grey. There's almost always people dying that didn't deserve it and Katniss herself killed people that didn't necessarily "deserve" to die. There is no indication that he knew how Coin would use that weapon specifically. He's not worse or better than any of the "better" characters. They are all written pretty grey. Especially Katniss herself
@rachelrosenstein9975

People also don’t like him because he was always guilt tripping Katniss for being (at the time it was an act, until it wasn’t anymore) with someone else. He acted like she owed him her love when she never felt that way about him, but all he did was making her feel guilty about something that’s out of her control.
@PandoraStolen
@PandoraStolen 2 ай бұрын
@Simplenotion doesn't matter that he's a teenager. So are Katniss and Peeta but they can still make better decisions. The problem isn't Gale making hard decisions in the moment of war. That's one thing but he goes into it saying he doesn't care if innocent people have to die for his cause. That's what's wrong and that makes him like the people that he's trying to fight against. I understand that it comes from being oppressed but that doesn't make his motivations right or moral. It's that kind of mindset that doesn't actually value human life that causes the kind of problems that they have in the first place. It's that mindset that caused Prim to die. It was irresponsible and he didn't care if innocent people had to die. He probably didn't realize it would end up being people he cared about or someone that Katniss cared about but that's what happens when you're irresponsible and careless. So he is wrong

I feel like the way you felt about the part 2 like being scenes thrown after scenes is on purpose, cause Katniss never had a moment to stop and process her feelings throughout the whole journey since she volunteered and specially when the revolution started. She didn’t have time to mourn, to be sad, to not worry and not run for her life, and she was also a teenager!!! So the movie being that fast paced and rly overwhelming and the end is quite international, bringing up to the moment she let’s it all out with Prim’s cat

Remember that Katniss told Gale in the first movie that she didn't want children (because of the existence of the games). In the book, she said that Peeta had to talk her into having children, which he really wanted, but that it was a long time before she could basically feel safe enough to bring children into the world (now that the games were a thing of the past).

Great reaction guys. Gale, Beetee & Coin came up with the two bomb plan in Mockingjay Part 1. I agree his intention was never to hurt Prim but I also understand why Katniss could never be around him again. She could never disassociate Prim’s death from him. They would be forever interconnected. Also I think Gale’s reasoning for even creating the plan in the first place knowing it could kill innocent people too… it never sat with Katniss. For Gale he would do whatever is necessary to take out the Capitol & Snow while I think Katniss always had a line she wouldn’t or couldn’t cross. There is a paragraph in the final book that explains perfectly why she could never have ended up with Gale & why Peeta is the right person for her. One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read in my life.

I think the movie does hint at Coin being nefarious. Boggs (Mahersala Ali’s character) puts Katniss on to the fact that President Coin isn’t who she presents to be and Katniss sees that President Coin isn’t genuine when she does the memorial to Katniss when they think she’s dead. I think the deeper dive you may be looking for is in the books.

So the Gale thing for me is when he started the dogging Peeta( talking about how I’d never say that no matter what they did to me ) I think he showed her there that she don’t have the connection with him because her an Peeta are trauma bonded and she finds a comfort in Peeta she could never with Gale & how she seen that he was more of the line of thinking where if people die then so be it cus war but her an Peeta tried to prevent ending all lives if possible, so when he started to suggest all the plans an showed Katniss how he would lose many lives to meet his end, so all that made me think he was not great an got me not liking him but not saying he evil, after his plan was used to kill Prim … that was it cus that’s what Katniss was telling him like you do things that way an terrible things happen to innocence, she after Prim was gone so was anything she had left for Gale, not saying he’s evil but he just not Peeta 🤦🏻‍♂️

Some context peeta in the pig flash backs had burned the bread on purpose bc he knew he’d have to throw it away so he could give some to katniss bc he knew katniss hadn’t eaten in days and his mom beat him for it! In the books gale only became increasingly interested in Katniss bc of Peeta bc they were only ever platonic and he constantly guilt tripped bc of her trauma in the games. Which is why Katniss really could not be with Gale, regardless of the bombing thing. He had so much justified anger in him, that she also carried, but she needed Peeta to balance her out. From the book: 'That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.'

The reason I despise Gale is not what happened Prim. He did not know it would be used to kill children. I despise him because he is a toxic pick me tool. Rather than supporting someone you supposedly love who is grieving and a shell of themselves your kissing the bruises left by the man she just admitted she wasn’t going to be able to let go. Even worse you know she is using you and thinking of the other man so he responds “now kiss me”. Seriously! This is how the kiss goes down in the book. ***Gale offered to come with me to 2, but I could see I was tearing him away from his work with Beetee. I told him to sit tight and stay where he was most needed. I didn't tell him his presence would make it even more difficult for me to mourn Peeta. Gale finds me when they arrive late one afternoon. I'm sitting on a log at the edge of my current village, plucking a goose. A dozen or so of the birds are piled at my feet Great flocks of them have been migrating through here since I've arrived, and the pickings are easy. Without a word, Gale settles beside me and begins to relieve a bird of its feathers. We're through about half when he says, “Any chance we'll get to eat these?” “Yeah. Most go to the camp kitchen, but they expect me to give a couple to whoever I'm staying with tonight,” I say. “For keeping me.” “Isn't the honor of the thing enough?” he says. “You'd think,” I reply. “But word's gotten out that mockingjays are hazardous to your health.” We pluck in silence for a while longer. Then he says, “I saw Peeta yesterday Through the glass.” “What'd you think?” I ask. “Something selfish,” says Gale. “That you don't have to be jealous of him anymore?” My fingers give a yank, and a cloud of feathers floats down around us. “No. Just the opposite.” Gale pulls a feather out of my hair. “I thought…I'll never compete with that. No matter how much pain I'm in.” He spins the feather between his thumb and forefinger “I don't stand a chance if he doesn't get better. You'll never be able to let him go. You'll always feel wrong about being with me.” “The way I always felt wrong kissing him because of you,” I say. Gale holds my gaze. “If I thought that was true, I could almost live with the rest of it.” “It is true,” I admit. “But so is what you said about Peeta.” Gale makes a sound of exasperation. Nonetheless, after we've dropped off the birds and volunteered to go back to the woods to gather kindling for the evening fire, I find myself wrapped in his arms His lips brushing the faded bruises on my neck, working their way to my mouth. Despite what I feel for Peeta, this is when I accept deep down that he'll never come back to me. Or I'll never go back to him. I'll stay in 2 until it falls, go to the Capitol and kill Snow, and then die for my trouble. And he'll die insane and hating me. So in the fading light I shut my eyes and kiss Gale to make up for all the kisses I've withheld, and because it doesn't matter anymore, and because I'm so desperately lonely I can't stand it. Gale's touch and taste and heat remind me that at least my body's still alive, and for the moment it's a welcome feeling. I empty my mind and let the sensations run through my flesh, happy to lose myself. When Gale pulls away slightly, I move forward to close the gap, but I feel his hand under my chin. “Katniss,” he says The instant I open my eyes, the world seems disjointed. This is not our woods or our mountains or our way. My hand automatically goes to the scar on my left temple, which I associate with confusion. “Now kiss me.” Bewildered, unblinking, I stand there while he leans in and presses his lips to mine briefly. He examines my face closely. “What's going on in your head?” “I don't know,” I whisper back. “Then it's like kissing someone who's drunk. It doesn't count,” he says with a weak attempt at a laugh. He scoops up a pile of kindling and drops it in my empty arms, returning me to myself***

the fact that the whole point of the rebellion was to stop an annual massacre of children and said rebellion's leader chose the killing of children to take down the snow is so twisted

I loved that they made the final scene in the field exactly like the epilogue cause I don’t remember the book being dark af but that epilogue made the book my favorite and seeing it come to play onscreen was such a great experience in theaters, esp cause they deserve to finally have a happy ending (after unfortunately suffering from nightmares and ptsd for fifteen years) and apparently Peeta had to convince her about the kids but I don’t blame her after everything and seeing them finally in a good place where she’s ready enough to tell their story to the kids someday makes me happy to see

I felt like she kissed Gale after the Peeta incident to almost get back at Peeta for not loving her anymore…it’s like she was trying to act like he didn’t matter when he definitely did. That’s not fair to Gale at all, but I can see where she was coming from.

You guys should read the books then make a review video on what you guys thought about each one cause yes the movies a good but the books are so much greater and also you guys should react to a series called divergent it gives kinda the same vibes about the government but in my opinion not on the same level as hunger games but still good to watch

If he never switched up that means he been evil since the first movie lol, wasn’t until they binned the district was when he started thinking weird, he been a red flag during both mockingjay movies. And the way katniss dismissed him was much needed, good riddance. Clearly people who call peeta useless and root for gale either find him more attractive or never read the books or both lmaoo

46:12 Yes. I've come to disagree with a lot of things Gale has done, and I'm definitely not his fan. But I don't feel hate either. Sincerely. I wanted his part in the film to be explained more, for him to appear more to get to know him more. I'm reading the book... and hope to have more answers. Gale internalized the hatred, hatred of everything. Everything Snow did.

Gail is trash because the whole series Katniss is just trying to desperately keep her head above water and he is standing next to her asking if she likes him like she isn’t just trying not to drown. The man is selfish and self focused. His trash status is cemented when he spirals into “I would never” bs about stuff he hasn’t had to face and his callus disregard for human life that makes him trash. Katniss never PLANNED to kill people. Gale did. He wanted to harm and maim. He planned for it.

Ok, Gale was never Katniss boyfriend. Gale was way more annoying in the books. Unlike Katniss and Peeta, he didn’t care about killing people, even innocent people. That is something that widely separated him from them. The nail in the coffin was HIS idea of a trap was what killed Prim. He came up with the idea of throwing a bomb and when the medics came to help the injured, throw another one to end them all. This repulsed Katniss even when he came up with it back in 13. Peeta was WAY better in the books (which is saying a lot considering he’s lovable in the movies already) In the books, he loses his leg in the first games. The capitol gives him an orthopedic one but he’s disabled from then on, which is one of the reasons they’re all so eager to save him for the second games and after that.

The ballad of songbirds and snakes is the prequel for the hunger games movies. Needless to say, it’s a direct continuation of the series but one present in the past and is about how snow became to be the person that he is in these movies. I’d recommend it but I will say this, the books give you a lot more to work with. The hunger games movies are great on their own but there’s a lot more to be explored in the books that often get glossed over in the movies. I’d recommend you watch the prequel without knowing too much and then read up on the other books. It’s likely they may make one more hunger games movie based on Haymitch’s hunger games experience but we’ll see.

As I said on a comment in your previous movie reaction. She is confused because her and gayle grew up together, probably assumed they would be together someday. Bit then she has these feelings for Peeta, so twice now, while peeta was out of the picture, she lissed him. To give him an opening to plant a real love kiss on her and seal their bond over the trauma bomd her and peeta have. But twice he rejected her kiss, shamed her for it. Ok bro,then I am moving on.... From here, for her, it is all peeta.

this is a good adaptation (A LOT less problematic changes than HP which I love so much btw) like physically my biggest complaint is those from districts like12 are SUPPOSED to be near starvation and people fromthe seam were supposed to have gray eyes but otherthen that its minor like finnick has sea green eyes & GALE'S whipping was for a different reason & went FARTHER and that new head peacekeeper caught katniss with the whip he didn't punch her

And that they added Katniss and Gale scenes that weren’t in the books and took down important Katniss and Peeta scenes from the books to make the whole team Peeta VS Gale more appealing to the audience when to book readers it was obvious she only ever loved Peeta.

Coin also being an antagonist doesn’t mean we’re supposed to forgive snow in any way. Snow is still the main villain of the entire series, coin is just also a villain. Snow and the capital are still the root cause of all the bad that happens in the series, but the point is that even a completely just and valid cause(the rebellion) can be used by power-hungry people to do bad things. It’s also just a pretty realistic demonstration of how revolutions happen, I mean the American revolution was pretty bloody, not that the people who fought for our independence were bad or wrong for it, but people don’t always make 100% humane choices when fighting a war, kind of hard to. Also gales character makes a similar point, he’s completely justified in his enthusiasm to fight in the rebellion, and he does a lot of good work to help them win, but he takes his war mindset too far and loses his morality. The gift-bombs were genius but also definitely very evil and snow was probably right when he said they didn’t need to do that to win. When gale says “even if they’re mopping floors they’re helping the enemy” in reference to killing civilians, that’s the main moment we’re supposed to realize he lost his morality. Killing civilians intentionally is literally a war crime, even in the real world it’s very much seen as bad. Not everyone in the capital or wealthier districts is evil or even likes snow, why would it be ok to kill them just because of where they live? Tigris is literally snows cousin, lives in the capital, and helps the rebels. Gale might have been right for joining the rebellion but being a warlord really brought out his lack of morality and that’s why katniss fell out of love with him.

President Snow is the best described in the last book! Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the movie is so fantastic!! I just wish his inner monologue was presented to get a better understanding of him to the audience . He was the first person to pay his condolences to Katniss about Prim too which makes me further confused about how I feel about this evil self! Complex character forsure. 💀
