Reading God’s word for yourself, digesting it, and having a relationship with Jesus, not a religion, is powerful. Good for you that you didn’t give up on Him. He loves you and there’s nothing you can do about it (my church’s motto). 😊

@Susan Deneen I went to a church with the same motto! It always made me smile and we all said it out loud together at the end of service. It was so reaffirming and helped me really come into my own relationship with Jesus.

Girl! I had a similar situation with a carpet installation last week. The installer left my walls with several gouges that I had to fix. At first, I was just going to blow it off, then I started telling a few people, and they told me I absolutely needed to call and complain. Got the follow-up call while I was watching this video!!! Stood up for myself about the situation. The guy I originally spoke with tried to mansplain what happened (before seeing the photos I sent), which was incredibly disappointing because he had been so nice and gave no indication of that behavior towards me before. The woman who called me with the resolution tried giving some half-hearted excuses for her employees. Bottom line: in 2023, we are standing up for ourselves, getting the services we are paying for, and killing them with kindess while we're doing it

My family and I switched churches over a year ago. It was one of the most emotional decisions we have ever made as a married couple so far. But the Lord is full of mercy and grace and brought us back to the church my husband and I actually met at. And it’s the best decision we ever made for our own spiritual growth and for our children. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior and that’s the only thing that matters. Glad y’all found a church home❤️

I get really anxious about future problems “potentially” happening and one of my best friends said something to me that really has helped and stuck with me. She said “you’ve handle everything that has happened up until this point, so give your current self a break and trust your future self to handle whatever comes up”. It really helped changed my perspective and help me realize that I haven’t given myself enough credit for all the ups and downs I’ve already handled well. I have plenty of evidence proving I’ll make it through the next hurdle and I need to trust myself to handle it when whatever it is happens.

I don’t understand how anyone can expect a home owner to estimate the amount of boxes they might use! Normally they come and walk through and give you an estimate. If someone asked me that I would be like “well maybe 7000”. Plus there are so many different box sizes how do you estimate that! Bear in mind I’m 60 and I’ve literally moved 20+ times in my life and I still couldn’t hazard a guess!

Jessica, my husband and I have been devout Catholics all our lives & raised our children Catholic, sent them to catholic schools. A few years back we went through some difficult times (death in family, medical illness) I wasn’t feeling connected to our church anymore and was feeling very lost & depressed. A friend introduced me to a non-denominational church and we have been going ever since! I realized I’m a more spiritual person than a religious person. I love the messaging & sense of community at our church!!❤

I love your advice for 20-30 year olds. I'm 51 and I have the same advice. Don't take things so seriously. Life gets hard, but don't make it harder than it is. You can't get back time wasted on things that just don't matter, or that are out of your control. My favorite piece of advice is: Sometimes good enough is good enough. Everything doesn't have to be perfect to make everyone happy.

One thing about faith… it’s a journey. I have gone *through it* over the years. Different denominations, coming to understand how things I’ve believed before have been wrong, then seeing how things I thought were wrong are right… my point is, I came full circle through that from my childhood faith away from it, around it, and then back into it again. It’s your journey with God that will last your entire life, and it’s ok to walk your journey. It’s yours.

I had a similar experience..I grew up in a small town Baptist church where my grandfather was a pastor. Fast forward to my mid adult life and started bringing my own family to a multi site non denominational church. At first all the lights, music, bells, whistles and coffee shops felt refreshing. We stayed for years, but felt such a longing for a real life pastor who wasn’t located 100 miles from us on a screen every Sunday and we could find relationships without joining a “small group.” After a recent church merger the things that once felt organic and Spirit led began to feel corporate and more like a weekly self help meeting. I went from running away from the type of church I grew up in only to finding myself returning to the same type of church as I turned 40. It’s funny how life works out that way. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am so proud of you and Tyler's decision to break free from a tradition and culture of religious bondage to experience the freedom that is found in truly following Jesus and developing that personal relationship with Him. I could feel your emotions as you spoke about it and it made my heart so happy for you all. Certain denominations are truly about religious, traditional rules that are not even biblical!! It is so infuriating. I understand the cultural aspect of it, but it truly is so disheartening to me that many are being held captive by a misrepresentation of a life with God. So many turn away from God because of the way the Church has represented Him. I encourage you both to really pursue the life that God wants for you and never stop growing, learning, and experiencing Heaven on Earth for yourself. It is the most fulfilling, rewarding, and peaceful joy you will ever know. I am looking forward to the video that you do about this and listening to you fully open up about it when you're ready. I was raised catholic and moved away from the church as well into a non denominational so I know exactly how you’re feeling! I had no personal relationship with God and was never taught to study the Bible, pray, be in the word. As a kid I completed sacraments and memorized prayers that were all completely over my head. It’s an amazing awakening and I’m so happy for your family ❤

I also came from a ritualistic church. I didn’t even know there was so much more richness to be had until I met other Christians who were different and clearly on fire for the Lord. I’ve slowly moved into a non-denominational church and it’s such an amazing thing to have a personal relationship with Jesus. It changes everything. I’m so happy for you, Haylee! I can’t wait to catch up in Heaven 😉

My 30’s were rough. I was 33 when I lost my dad but going through that and other things led me to finally feel comfortable with who I am as a person and gave me clarity on what is most important. I turned 40 in October and so far it has been a fantastic year. Looking forward to this new decade of life and hopefully a lot more laughter and happy . ❤

All my life I too was a push over, the minute my twins were born, NO MORE…. The Mama bear in me came out ready to protect not only my cubs, but my home, my family. I to am grateful to God that this instinct came out when it counts, because when I didn’t , it left me feeling defeated and powerless.

Sorry to hear about the issues with the movers. When I pay for a service to be done whatever it is, if the service isn't done properly of course I will politely express my concern with it, hoping it will be resolved in a friendly manner 😊 Take care everyone

When my husband and I started dating he taught me that when you pay for a service, and the service provider does not fully provide that service, you need to speak up. When you are in a contract with someone and you hold up your end of the contract by paying, they need to hold up their end of the contract by providing the service. Soooo many of us just sit back and accept it because we don’t want to ruffle feathers. Girl, I am speaking to you and others who struggle with this - RUFFLE FEATHERS. Many companies will try and get away with whatever they can to cut costs. But if you have a contract then you have a contract. Also, you don’t need to be rude in order to confront others. You can be polite and direct at the same time. Just wanted to throw this out there because it’s a HUGE life lesson I have learned. It’s okay to stand up for yourself and advocate for yourself. 👍🏻

Oh I loved this!! I am a Preacher’s kid. Ours wasn’t a church/religion issue as far as a denomination, ours was more location and finding the right fit. I came to this searching for a church in my 40’s. I’m so glad you realized it sooner. I felt every bit of joy you were feeling while talking about it. It makes your life seem more purpose driven and happy!! You made my day!! Praying for you and yours!! I look forward to your videos!! 😊

On moving, coming from experience (we’re a military family and move A LOT), moving companies are mostly awful. In their defense, they can never find suitable employees but we always have issues. I joke that every move I get a new set of dishes because my kitchen items are always smashed. We’ve had friends even have their cat packed (yes, seriously and it survived!). Second, regarding church, I was raised in a missionary Baptist church and fell away from my faith until my late 20’s. I’ve finally found a church where I belong and it is truly life changing. I’m happy to hear your testimony and I’m thankful you’re willing to talk about it on camera ❤️

Yes! Standing up for oneself as always difficult. I believe it stems from when you are a kid and adults discourage, “talking back” or arguing. Being conscious of it with my own kids, Ive learned many times they are trying to stand up for themselves, and what they believe is right.

I appreciate a lot of what you said in this video. First as someone who is trying so hard to not be a people pleaser anymore (and failing miserably), I appreciate your commentary that one day I might find a leg to stand on in order to stand up for myself. The other about church. I have felt the same way about the church I was raised in, and still attend. I don't find the people in my church having the same thoughts or feelings as I do in regards to what God asks us to do and have grappled with the idea of looking at other churches but felt overwhelmed. So thank you for sharing that I'm not the only one in either of these situations. ❤

I was raised religiously (united church) and as an adult am not religious by choice. I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you, and even happier to hear that you’re open to your children deciding what they believe as they grow up! My parents were the same, and has allowed for so many discussion and so much honesty as we respect each others’ beliefs.

I was the same about customer service. I would stress out and get myself all worked up. Now I pray. I pray before, sometimes during. Definitely after. There’s no reason why we can’t still be kind while telling a rep what we need. Sometimes you get a person who doesn’t understand the importance of having happy customers: repeat business. But the ones who do make it so much better and I stay with those companies for later business. I’m so happy they made it right.

Jessica, I've been watching your channel since Starlook unboxing days. When you talked about going to church, I totally connected with it. I grew up in a very religious family, and my parents would ram it down our throat. So, I stopped going full-time for over 20 years. Recently, my heart was aching for that connection, and we found a really good non-denominational church, and it felt great!

your chat about church was really edifying to hear. i personally relate to what you're talking about (being raised in a religious household, feeling so tied down by rules without understanding God's grace) and while the non-denominational label isn't something i 100% love about my church, there are lots of blessings that come about because of it too. after being re-convicted of my faith in God through reformed theology, i have been so in love with learning about Him and started serving in my church as well in a few capacities. we are all broken and hopelessly flawed people, but it is through the blood of Christ that we are set free from our bondage and now able to really enjoy biblical relationship in Him which is what gives our lives meaning. thank you for sharing, jessica! God bless you :]
