If you have to keep in mind that when that car was new in Australia as a HSV it was well under 100k aud but a new 2009 BMW M5 was well over 200k aud for basically the same performance, and less reliability, and for most Aussie's, they don't give two shits about the interior on it, also driving an M5 or the equiv from Mercedes or Audi would make a statement most wouldn't want to project.

It’s obviously rebadged. This is a classic Holden from Aus. You can never get a Holden anymore as the factory has shut. Love the noise

I worked for the company that imported the original monaro to the uk, I got to drive them out of the containers and about 400 yards across the yard and park them up until the transporter came to pick them up, 2 of us did this, so there is a 50% chance that if you own the original monaro or vxr, that I've driven it :) in fact we also imported the holden gto coupe mk 2 that they used on top gear so i got to drive that before Clarkson :)

F4T ARD3N BLU3 VXR I’ve owned a Monaro for 10 years. Parts are becoming more and more difficult to come by. If you’d be using it as a weekend car, go for it. As a daily driver, maybe not.

Size wise isn’t it a bit like a 5 series? I’d love a Monaro, wish they made a 2+2 cabrio version though. Someone at my gym has a VXR8, it’s always fun to see and hear burbling around the car park

Beautiful car but in manual form with the 20 in wheels and the wortec exhaust system. Elite cars in bordon Hampshire specialise in vxr8s and manaro vxrs. £26000, for a low mileage example.❤️

This car looked so much better than our G8 GT/GXP. Wish the HSV bodykit was a factory option in the states, because otherwise I pretty much have to factor in the cost of doing that conversion to the cost of buying one. Wouldn't have it any other way.

In the usa they were imported holden commodores were as the uk got the Hsv version. America also got a later version of the commadore badged as chevy ss

Where's the FIFTH DOOR ? I think you'll only find FOUR. DOH ! It IS a Holden from Australia. In its homeland there was actually a SEVEN LITRE (427 cubic inch) version available. Aussies play HARD !

It's Joel No doubt. But I like that this one is a little more refined than lost American muscle. It’s actually pretty similar to the Chevy SS. That car is also based on a Holden.

@@mohnjayer The Chevy SS isn't based on a Holden, it's a Holden with a Chevy badge. Same as this. The Chevy SS is a Holden VF Commodore SS and the VXR8 is a HSV VE Clubsport R8, which is just an older, sportier model of the Commodore SS.

Which city is that in?? I’m yet to see a father let his pimply, 16 yr old son drive a HSV as learner driver when a 16yr has no concept of how much power he / she has under his right foot ... More likely to see a 16 yr old driving a V6 commodore exec spec..

Its not a Vauxhall or even a Holden strictly speaking. Its a HSV, built and designed by Tom Walkinshaw Racing.

Yes it's a HSV and what does HSV mean It stands for Holden special vehicle The front bad you looked at on the Fender is not the Holden symbol but it's the HSV symbol Go Holden symbol Loin holding arryan wheel

So, what's it like for sourcing spares etc. I'm considering buying an Autp version and are there any real issues I need to know about that effect a car with 95K on the clock ?

heaps of these rolling around still in Australia, either as base model v6, mid range v8 (ss) or the v8 clubsport which these are based on so general spares from GM shouldn't be an issue. With a corvette motor, spares for this from US should be easy too. There are also some UK specialists in these and the Monaro too who modify and service them. Air con condenser failure was the biggest gripe I'd heard from friends who had commodores.

@@timwattison4419 Unsure what UK costs would be for parts and labour in 2023, as it would come down to specifics of the car. I had a new condenser, some pipework and gas replaced a few years ago on an older v8 commodore Ute and it was around 4 hrs labour to strip front end, replace parts, regas a/c and refit it all. That was about $850 AUD back in 2015.

Can't help but feel the title is a little misleading considering this is an older model and not even top of the range of it's model year. This is the equivalent of a VE HSV Clubsport R8, then you have the supercharged GTS above that, then you have the newer VF range with the R8, the GTS, the GTS-R, and the GTS-R W1 which has a supercharged LS9, and then you can get all of them as a ute. There were only four GTS-R W1 Maloos made but they are far and away Australia's craziest cars imo. And yes, 17 year olds do learn to drive in their dad's 6.2L HSV. Gotta learn how to skid somehow

As all of the Aussies have said on here it is NOT a Vauxhall. You didn't design it, you didn't manufacture it and it doesn't have 5 doors. It is a Holden Special Vehicle made in Australia, but you already know that. You deserved to be berated for this review.

They’re quite fuel efficient on the motorway, pulling 950 rpm in 6th gear, probably get 12L per 100km..

Boot counts as a door. This is fairly common practice in my experience.

@@some_doofus That usually only applies in the case of a car that has a hatch back, 5 door allows direct access to the cabin area. The Holden Commodore (your Vauxhall) is classed as a 4 door (here in NZ and Aussie).

Don't buy this one Joel the best thing about this car is its corvette engine the rest is pretty agricultural, if you want to be nice you can call it a 21 century muscle car, but then so are many AMG's and I know which I would prefer.....

The agricultural aspect is the attraction for many owners. It’s a pretty unique experience. So much character and a real conversation starter. Not everyone buys a car based on the badge, spec sheet or 0-60 time.
