as a kid growing up I didn't understand why my mom won't take me to Disneyland but now that I am an adult the money could have fed us for a few months. I respect my mom so much.

Gone are the old days of Walt Disney wanting a family-friendly park to take the kids on a Sunday. Not at those prices!!!

15 years ago I took my 3 kids (6, 8, and 10) to Disney World for 5 days. We stayed outside the park, about half a mile from the entrance to Magical Kingdom. This included all the food and drinks, tickets, parking, gas (driving from Michigan), and even $50 a kid in souvenirs and a breakfast with the characters. Total it was $2000. 5 year later I did a 3 day trip to Chicago for $500 and that included City Passes for all the museums, the conservatorium, the aquarium, and the Willis Tower. It also covered the hotel, gas, food and drinks, parking and about $25 in souvenirs each.

i loveeee disneyland. my parents used to take us every summer since we were kids we haven’t done it in a minute but it’s so nostalgic for me. i used to hate it a bit growing up lol then i turned into an adult and appreciated it more especially cuz of the nostalgia

I'm from the UK I have been to Disney World three times when I was younger. Each time we saved, got no presents for a couple of years and then we knew to expect to pay high prices for merchandise and food, but we'd prepared and wanted to do it. It isn't as bad as some people make out if you don't buy EVERYTHING you see. She's literally buying food every five minutes. I ate breakfast at the hotel and dinner elsewhere, skipping lunch.

That’s why we always brought food to Disney like sandwiches. Glad they allow people to do that.

Pro tip: Often the stores around theme parks, or at least in Orlando, with have knock off merch that is just as good as in park. This is everything from the weirdly design knickknack shops to the local Walmart. Don't pay for food or drinks, bring your own, unless there is something you really want to try. Refillable water bottles and water flavoring is the way to go. Though even if you don't, staff will give you free water bottles if they even think you might get heat stroke or anything of the sort. My hand was a bit shaky once, probably due to caffeine, and I could not tell this guy "no" as he shoved water bottles into my arms. Disney actual provides a lot of accommodations so if you are disabled in any way check out what you can get. I am autistic, and most people can't tell, but because I have it on record Disney gives my entire family free Fast Passes. And finally, not a pro tip, but an observation that I no way encourage: It's pretty easy to shoplift in Disney. I've done it twice by accident, but employees do not give enough of a shit to notice things like toddlers walking out with stuffed animals or Velcro on a bag taking some ears with them. Do with that info what you will.

Man that's two weeks rent for me, I can't even afford to eat most days a week if I want A roof over my head, and even when I eat it's often out of bins, rotten or at best donated I know it's not your fault I'm poor but it's sometimes agonizingly painful watching people spend this much on one day of luxuries while I struggle to survive

I went to Disney World with my sister and cousin last month. It was their first time and I warned them about spending and pacing themselves. That went out the window…. They kept saying “Disney can get all my money” 🤦🏽‍♀️ at least we had fun 😁

When I was a kid family admission ticket was $25 for family of five but came with a souvenir Mickey or Minnie Mouseketeer hat. Single admission tickets I think was $3.75/ person.We snuck in a picnic lunch to save on their exorbitant food prices. Sandwiches were $4.50 and came with a bag of chips. Drinks were $1.50.

I take my kid there a lot. We go with snacks in our backback. Occasionally we get a treat but Bringing your own snacks to eat in line like grapes, pre made popcorn and chips etc pb&j is the best way to save $ especially when you go once a week. Parking $ is pricey though.

That is so much money. When I was a kid, we always did: -big free breakfast at the hotel -one cute snack and drink for lunch (since breakfast is so huge) -dinner in the park -one treat at the end of the night -one or two souvenirs per trip And we still had an AWESOME time ☺️

The reason Disneyland charges so much is because they have lines that are too long. Disney is also overcrowded. Disney is also using high prices to keep the riff-rafe out.

Nope. Will never set foot in a Disney property ever. One of our clients brought us treats from Disneyland - Anaheim. Based on the prices represented here, they spent "several hundred" dollars. Yikes! My bone of contention is that they don't pay their people a living wage. Walt would NOT approve.

took my dad to disneyland for his bday last year (he always took me & my sister for bdays or summer). i bought food before we got to the park. chicken salads from jack in the box we ate before entering. for Disneyland i got us 2 footlong subway sandwiches, two 1L water bottles, 2 small bag of chips, 1 mixed nuts, 2 bananas, 1 granola bar & 1 chocolate bar. he was happy & i was happy & split between both our backpacks it wasnt heavy at all & got lighter as we ate throughout the day.

For anyone wondering the whole thing cost $381.85
