Oh man, I was in high school when this happened, I remember no one knew or heard of Jonestown until the genocide. First local guy to bring this to us. It's amazing how nature can take over once left abandoned!

Sadly this is the one thing every foreigner knows about Guyana, nothing else, and that is why your channel is so very vital buddy 😮

I was thinking that there may be some little relic at Jonestown (like an old building covered with moss or some dilapidated rusting farm machinery) but there is nothing there but forest. After 45 years, the jungle has reclaimed its own. Considering that all the buildings were made of wood, those have long rotted down to mulch.

I know the energy there is crazy wouldn’t dare even be close to there in the night

Guyana is a wonderful country. I visited there way back in '92 and found everyone to be so genuinely friendly. Hopefully, their new-found wealth from the discovery of huge crude oil deposits never changes that.

A sadness came over me as you entered Jonestown. I was in my late teens when it happened. So sad. May they all be resurrected.

All the history of Jones Town is being hidden by the foliage and the trees as if to say: we don't exist anymore. When this incident happened I was in my late 20s at the time and we heard the sad news. Back in those days communication was no way near what it is today so when the news broke in Barbados, it was at the point after the Congressman Leo Ryan was killed; but prior to that we were not aware of this expedition by Jim Jones to Guyana.

Thanks for sharing. My sister Cecelia Blair was in the police force at the time when this occurred. You are very brave going there. You are going to places never ventured before by many Guyanese. You know most of Guyana and a good ambassador for our country. I enjoyed the journey very much. The nature, towns and villages. Love this

One of my aunt and my dad was stationed in jones town during that horrific time when their were in the arm force. The stories I heard from my dad an aunt was historical. As a young child growing up I lived quite a few places due to my dad being in the army force. Those was some tuff times but happy memories at the same time. It teaches me a lot about life and my hometown history from Mathewridge to the north west where the rest of my childhood roots was planted for me and my 6 siblings. Because of my childhood history and experience and the life lessons it has thought me has made me a humble, selfless caring human being and to not take life and where you come from for granted.

Thanks again Danny for outstanding work of bringing our beautiful country. To world but like I said the government needs to develop these areas there are more waterfall that hasn't been explored yet.❤

Thank you Denny ARD Family and team for this video. I was curious about the aftermath of this place since the massacre took place and here,you go, with such courage filming for us.. I remember I was at school when we heard of the incident on air and we saw right above us airplanes passing above our school and they were flying kind of low . We never knew of these people inhabited our country. So that arrangement had to be between Jim Jones and the Guyana Government at that time who were PNC President Forbes Burnham . I have read comments here that people would like a memorial set up there,which is good in remembrance of those lost souls,men,women and children .But we need to protect and preserve our natural forest and wild life with the view of climate change .If we are to cut down more trees just for tourism then I am afraid, more trees are going to be destroyed to construct a community....just my take on this...

That horrific event destroyed tourism in our beautiful country for decades the states still owes our country for that because they knew he was a insane vigilante and still gave him the green light to leave. Promoting the area with the largest suicide event in the world isn’t a good look for tourism. It should be a memorial for those people that lost their lives.Big up Danny for showing us the area for educational and awareness purposes.

went to jonestown in 1982 via UG- national service at port kaituma, they were many small buildings.trucks,clothes.cups still visible.i walk on jim jones house flooring,the roof was gone,lots of orange and banana along trail to jim jones,over 100 students went on that trip

Living in NY, going to college for the past four years and the topic of Jonestown came up numerous of times and i’ve become more interested. I came across this video within this year and i’m so grateful that someone shared this experience to take this trip to see what Jonestown is today. Although it is a very disturbing story for our fellow lost souls on this land, what has happened stays within us all. Jonestown is absolutely of my interest to share amongst those who do not know about Guyana or this horrific history. As I go every year, i’m hoping to take this trip soon! Good video .thanks ARD. Its not a temple it was more like a gated community where they kept the people in and its a shame the Guyanese government did not have a memorial site of that tragedy. I think it because majority of the people that was killed are American citizens.

Recall seeing a troop carrier flying over essequibo coast at the time, one was refueling mid air, high in the sky and my parents talking about it. Was on the cover of time magazine, we had a copy in the house. Haunting photos😢

Beautiful country beautiful people I love to go there and I love to visit Jonestown and take photos feel the energy see if everything is at peace 🕊️ I pray 🙏🏽 for them everyday and may they be at peace but the area should be prayed over also due to the tradegy but there is still love because before the tragedy it was happy peaceful love everyone took pride and love in the land building growing food so there still some love left in the lands

We never heard of Jonestown until the tragedy. You and your team risked your health walking through the jungle to showcase this part of Guyana. The aerial view was captivating. Apart from Jonestown, the other areas you travelled through need a lot of improvements for the locals.

I remember when this happened. No one could believe 900+ people were forced into suicide. Jim Jones didn't even drink the Kool-aid. He shot himself in the head. Pure evil happened here

I remember the first Police album had been released more or less at this period. And any time I hear one the songs of the album I think about this tragedy.

Seeing where Port Kaituma airstrip is and Jonestown, now I can make the connection where the people got shot. Well what can we say when the massacre happened, that's when people see Guyana on the map. That was so sad. Danny you took the risk going into the jungle with Captain Black Boy and his wife. Denny, Thank you once again for taking us along on another one of your fascinating and interesting journeys, but I sincerely hope that the name "Jonestown" will be removed, as that was a very dark period. From what I've seen in your pictures, the potential is there to make a super resort, using local architecture to build accomodation etc. Companies such as "Club Robinson" and "Club Mediterranee" etc.,I am sure would be interested in a collaboration with Guyana. It would provide jobs for many of the people there. I have visited these clubs and they are always located in places similar to what you have shown.

Hmmm…I remember this, I’d just started at Bishops’. My dad did a study of the settlement, (think he worked for the Cooperative Development Ministry at the time)and had travelled to Jonestown and met Jones and other Temple members… He had told us that Jones had had a pet chimpanzee on the settlement. We Guyanese on the coast were oblivious to the horrific massacre in the interior… and even when we got copies of the first book about the massacre we viewed the event quite disconnectedly.I remember the People’s Temple radio broadcasts airing about 2pm during the week… Thank you for sharing.
