Bethesda is known for making absolutely terrible gun designs, and somehow, miraculously, the Fallout show has brought these goofy ah cartoon guns to life. They've even made new abominations for our amusement! It's honestly kinda impressive, but still cursed. Since this is a hollywood production, there's a whole bunch of cringe gun tropes too, which I frankly cannot stand, so in this video, I'll be going over everything wrong with the guns in the Fallout show. You guys may be familiar with Johnathan Ferguson from the expert reacts series who briefly covered these guns, but for this video, I'll be going into much more depth to make sure every mistake is exposed.

💥Download War Thunder for FREE and get your bonus! ► Use my link - playwt.link/brandyboy #ad As always, feel free to leave your corrections and theories in the comments, I do try my best to be accurate, but I do sometimes get things wrong myself Here's some corrections and clarifications: -Ghouls have an inherent resistance to drugs, so that could explain why the tranquilizer is ineffective on Cooper -Cooper's Revolver could be using some type of explosive slug or sabot, more like a tank shell, rather than a rocket. This one had me confused ngl -Seeing as the US annexed Canada, and Canada adopted the FAL and Stering, it's reasonable to assume those guns would make their way into the main states. I still think they should prioritize showing American guns, or guns that were historically adopted by the US.

I hated what they did to the NCR, but I actually thought the show was REALLY good. It felt like fallout, and I enjoyed it a lot.

8 pounds is quite heavy for a pistol. To put in perspective, the AR-15 (in its base form) weighs about 6 pounds unloaded.

Bethesda probably ignored the AR platform in 3 because they wanted more non traditional guns in their game And in 4 because they wanted only their fictional abominations And the NCR in general was really mistreated, not only in lore but also in their practical props, uniform and guns and all that Fuck sake they are using speed helmets and airsoft masks The NCR has an very iconic uniform

the AR platform is present but wasn't standard issue to the army more likely was used like the R91 in some form of national guard etc they wanted fictional abominations cause its set in an alternate timeline 50s era the AR platform dosnt really fit that look even with its wooden furniture but i still love the service rifle from FONV . I can agree the NCR was kinda mistreated but its been how many years since shady sands fall guarantee that would put strain on supply lines and stockpiles of weapons and armour plus the NCR we see dont seem like a well outfitted unit more like rage tag settlers that used to be apart of the NCR at shady sands

@@zackbatcountry3361 Its specifically stated Shady sands was the FIRST capitol of the NCR. That implies the government, the military and all the cool gear have moved somewhere else long before the bomb. Which also implies these guys are picking over the remnants of what the NCR left behind.

@@ItsYaBoyBrandyBoy The Ghouls Ammo actually is feasible, but unnecessary. The Fins would have to fold when actually loaded into Cartridge, on top of that a Sabo would have to be used to prevent the Fins from unfolding in the Barrel. I've seen Slugs such as those on Taofledermaus.

There's a mod in New Vegas where it adds the Ghoul's revolver into the game and well... Let's just say I recreated the Filly shootout scene in Freeside and making my way to the Strip It's just that powerful of a gun especially if you're running a cowboy build

The FRAG-12 is a specialized 12-gauge shotgun shell which contains a small amount of high explosive to breach intermediate barriers, defeat light armored vehicles, and disrupt IEDs. The shell was designed by the Special Cartridge Company in London, England.

@@ItsYaBoyBrandyBoy As for the shells looking like full sized brass casings, you can still get 12ga full brass shells online for reloading. Much longer reload life, especially with blackpowder reloading, and you get to feel cool loading them with slugs to look like huge elephant rounds.

Fact that the M2 Browning is STILL a viable weapon just speaks to how good it is, and instead of making it a hand held weapon they use it as damn set dressing. Sacrilegious!

If there's only one good thing you can say about the fallout 4 AR, it's that in the show, it's treated more like a bulky SAW or LMG used by people wearing power armour. Which makes it look more like the water-cooled machine guns it's modelled after.

to be fair I think he was trying to reload the mares leg, but realized the rounds in his bandolier were way too big to fit in the gun so all he could do was move it around until the scene ended

Yeah, it really looks like an outtake that they used anyway, either due to incompetence or oversight. Cooper's actor looks genuinely bewildered when the bullet doesn't go into the gun and then awkwardly fumbles it around breaking character, they clearly just didn't give this man matching props and he had no idea what to do about it

I'm not in Walton's head but I got the impression that he was just then realizing he had mismatched props, and no direction other than "act like you're reloading while delivering your lines." Which is a props department issue, not an acting issue.

@@Destroyer_V0 I think there was talk of that he been given the wrong prop ammo and that was him improving. he should had done is yell Cut and have someone give him the correct ammo. happen before there is some old show where we see a US soldier trying to load his M16 rifle whit a AK mag. (there is a banana shaped extended M16 mag that he was supposed to use but someone gave him the wrong one by mistake).

@@Zack_Wester Given the jump cut that happens after, it's entirely possible that's exactly what he did. And given the other props, I'd guess they just. Didn't have any prop ammo for him to use. Since I don't know bout you, but parts of the show felt like they had a more limited budget for props than you might think. Spending more instead on set design, such as the vault *Which they reuse the a lot of the set for each of the 3 main vaults we see, just with different numbers, for example*

Interplay / Black Isle did not create the Colt 6520, the gun is from a comic in the 90s called "Hard Boiled" which explains its nonsensical design running off pure "rule of cool" rather than practicality as a lot of comics did during that era.

The only segment I disagree with is the Tranquilizer rant. It has been canon since at most Fallout 3 that Ghouls have a funky immune system and metabolism, meaning drugs don't have as much an effect on them relative to 'normal' humans. The tranq' darts are probably similar to stimpaks in their chemical composition, thus allowing near-instant activation when injected.

Memory serves, they specifically need amped-up Jet for it to really do anything, and there's one in Underworld that does Jet as a hobby ("Passes the time", I think he said). Alcohol still seems to work normally, though, given the bar, and Patchwork is perpetually drunk (Nice guy, honestly). They also have stronger stomachs, apparently, going off Underworld again, and that one ghoul during the Nightkin quest in Vegas.

I mean, I get people gushing over real life weapons showing up in the Fallout TV show for the NCR. But in Fallout New Vegas, the standard issue rifle for the NCR Trooper IS the "Service Rifle", which is clearly based on M16. So why the hell aren't the NCR troopers wearing their standard issue armor and using their standard issued rifles?

Like that other guy said, the M16 and it's derivatives are still known to the average person as a "modern" assault rifle. So even if you gave it wooden furniture, it doesn't fit Bethesda's vision of aesthetics, that being "cold war, ridiculously sci-fi or a californian having a bad LSD trip and drawing the gun he saw when he wakes up."

@kielbasamage Sure, but here's the thing. The M16 was made during the Cold War. So it doesn't make sense to not include it simply because people see it as a "modern assault rifle". Look at New Vegas, hell, look at Fallout 1 and 2, those games had both modern and Cold War Era weapons.

@@CanadianTehGamer Yes... but you're looking at games made by Black Isle, not Bethesda. You know, the same people who designed the Combat Rifle and Assault Rifle in 4, and the Combat Shotgun in 3. They can't really be trusted to make accurate assessments on firearms, so it stands to reason they'd think a M16 rifle would look to modern, so they'd be willing to replace it with something more akin to a M14 as imagined by a pulp sci-fi writer as the excessive dose of LSD atomizes his neural pathways.

Actually the FAL makes sense seeing that its the C1 version adopted by Canada in the late 50s. So it reasonable to assume that the Canadian Government had a ton in storage and post annexation by the US the guns could have been reissued to US Army troops on the west coast in preparation for a Chinese assault.

@@AceOfBlackjack Except the fact, the 10mm pistol was supposed to be an automatic revolver and not this weird magazine-fed revolver monstrosity, is what actually happened. Chris Taylor wanted to fix this description error, but he missed his chance during Fallout 2 development and after that he didn't get to work on Fallout again (well, he did on Tactics, but Tactics didn't have the 10mm in it to begin with)

I could POSSIBLY give the excuse for the tranquillizer pistol if you told me the darts had something in them that caused a strong stinging/burning sensation akin to getting concentrated lemon or pepper juice in a cut. Then you could at least say the raider's reactions were to the unexpected and severe pain instead of the impact itself. There's also the possibility of not being normal tranquilizers and instead being a muscle relaxant, which can take effect within a minute as opposed to the ten or so minutes it takes for tranqs.

@@destroyer-dv6jvNo. That is wrong on all levels. Not only does it not look good. The design makes no sense. A water-cooling internal system would ultimately make the weapon heavier than it’s supposed to be. Power armor or not, a gun is not supposed to be ungodly heavy.

Ghouls have high resistances to drugs, so that explains why Cooper didn’t instantly pass out. Also he seems to imply that he’s built up some resistances from his prolonged drug use.

Also explains why there was such a boom in "new" much more powerful versions of drugs after the bombs maybe? A ghoul's gotta get high and all

Cooper's various "shotgun" rounds all have different projectiles for various purposes. There's the explosive round, the AP round used for penetrating power armor, and a couple more on his belt. It's no different from various specialty shotshells available to us today. Also the fins could be plausible if the rear of the projectile tapers down like a boat tail, thus leaving room for tiny (and useless) fins.

I highly disagree that he should have tried shooting after the Bear broke his Forbidden Fallout 4 Assault Rifle. There's no way that the bite would be a clean cut like with a saw. The edges of the barrel would be crumpled and it would get the bullet stuck and explode the gun. If something that powerful bites down on the barrel, that gun needs full repairs before being used again.

In defense of the rotary shotgun, Brandy, Fallout is said to be a timeline where the USSR and the United States were actually on decent enough terms. Which is really funny considering the whole red scare going on, but it wasn't *those* reds, see? The USSR and US were trading a lot. But the show utterly fucks up in other ways, so don't mistake this as coping in its defense. Just a caveat.

Yeah in the first Fallout one of the preset characters you can choose to play as is the granddaughter of a Soviet consulate. From the POV of an American in the 90’s (when the first game was made) it seemed that the alliance between us and the Chinese wasn’t as tenuous as it would later become, so they just switched china with Russia in Fallout’s alternate universe. This also explains why the RPD seems to be common. It wasn’t smuggled by ‘commie spies’. The US probably directly bought a bunch off their commie allies and stored them in the Nat. Guard armory that the NCR later looted.

As someone who works at a gun store, a lot of the modern Kimbers are just kinda shitty. Had a guy shoot steel case ammo out of his and we had to send the whole gun back because the shitty, soft steel casing ruined Kimber's "hardened, heat-treated steel." Like, my Glock will gobble up Tula steel case and it's frame is mostly plastic. How is your steel frame 1911 getting tore up like that? Shameful.

21:10 FYI Enclave minigun turrets like that in Fallout 2 would've shredded you for 300+ damage even if you were wearing best armor in the game with best protection you can get from any distance - they were insanely deadly, oh my god.

I think you're absolutely right, animation team seems to be pretty weak as well, in Fallout 4 we get a left handed bolt action rifle even though there isn't a single lefty in the game, and in Starfield theres a pump shotgun that cycles backwards, no one thought it was an issue

While I haven’t seen the show I have seen the turret scene and always assumed it was just something stupid like “Pre war turret company never rifled the barrels of the turrets they sold to save on machining costs and increase production rates and just flat out never told the end customer so that’s why it’s laughably inaccurate.” But that still makes no sense for having ZERO hits at that range…

to me the targeting computer in that thing is like one of those hand woven computers nasa used for the apollo program & its targeting system has to round the direction of the target to the closest 30 degrees of rotation or something on top of the bullets tumbling & the unrifled barrel

I think the reason Bethesda is so hesitant to use the M16 is because due to it still being the current service rifle of the US Military (and several other militaries adopting AR15 derivatives recently) many people associate it with modern, late 20th and 21st century warfare and is thus "too modern" for their 50s retrofuturism aesthetic. I personally think that would be a bad reason, but hey that's just my opinion. Edit: slightly changed last sentence

Right? The title of this makes it sound like the show messed up by making things look like the game. Meanwhile 10 to 1 odds the video would be bitching about it not looking like the game enough if they didn't do it. The show didn't mess up. Complain about the fallout universe guns by all means, but the show didn't drop the ball by NOT redefining the way that guns look. I mean seriously, in a world where radiation mutates instead of kills, you are going to bitch about the guns not being believable? Leave the Institute destroyed (Seriously Bethesda, the very real chance the BOS burned that joke to the ground is the best part of the show, go with it), it'd be nice to see some gen 1/2 synths still roaming around. sort of relevant, but in warhammer40k, boltgun ammunition is basically gyrojet with a chemical propellant and casing. the reason why they come with a casing is to increase their range and make up their lethality in close range since gyrojets need time to accelerate

I think with the ghoul and the whole power armor thing is because he immediately knew Maximus was newbie with power armor so he was toying with in the beginning but the brotherhood of steel, he was serious with since they aren't noobs. It would definitely make sense about the whole power armor weakness since the ghoul used T-45 power armor and we all know T-45 isn't the best when it first went to war

One interesting thing about the 6520 - it’s pretty much a direct copy of a “revolver” (?) from the comic Hard Boiled, as illustrated by Geoff Darrow and written by Frank Miller. Like you said, I do almost respect the dedication to making the props accurate. I don’t LIKE the guns, but I do almost respect it.

Earlier in the episode they actually explained why Maximuses armour isn’t effected by coopers shots. In the helicopter before max owned the suit, he said to the original owner of it “I see you went with the extra plating in the chest?” Or something along those lines.

Tempered lining, yes. Saddly lucy, who knows what it actually does because she read the manual, passed out before she could say it. But it's a good bet the extra defensive properties of the armour are the same as in fallout 4's power armour upgrades.

Pretty sure the fo4 assualt rifle was originally meant to be a power armor machind gun, which it seems the show used it in that fashion. It was clearly made for the power armor proportions rather than peoplw hands, which is how uts used in the show, with only power armor dudes using it

Probably because he was loaded up on drugs when Lucy shot him, it's why he shrugged off the shots that hit him in the shootout because he was too high to feel it, I'm not fully sure though as I haven't seen the show but have seen speculation that Cooper uses pre-war drugs during his fights to help him as a bounty hunter.

I'm guessing here but I think the reason why we don't see that many real-world weapons in Fallout 4, 76, and the TV Series is because they might have to pay for licensing fees for those guns, unless the model is over 20 years old. Which is why they make up those ugly Assault Rifles and change real-world weapons like the lever-action rifle / Mare's Leg because the barrel for that gun was bigger than those bullets.

Some points on the STEN. Strictly according to the manual, if the Sten didn't have a foregrip (the MkI and V did, usually) the soldier was trained to hold the gun by the barrel shroud, as instructed in this manual for the MkII (unfortunately poor quality scan). You'll notice that the instructions specifically state to not hold the gun by the magazine. Or you won't youtube does not allow links sadly but I would show it if I could... If you search this on the archive you should find it. firearms-sten-mk-ii-submachine-gun However, Sten magazines were notoriously bad - the design was a poor one to begin with, and the early magazines especially were made in a great rush with quite loose tolerances which could lead to feed problems during firing. So in practice it was not uncommon to hold the gun by the magazine housing to be able to brace the magazine and stop it wobbling about so much during firing, and thus potentially reduce the likelihood of a jam. The more skilled user would by all accounts test each magazine before use to make sure the fit was acceptable.

The US in Fallout’s universe did adopt the FAL as it’s service rifle but the American variant is called the R-91, it’s chambered in 5.56 and is prominently seen in Fallout 3. Also in Fallout 3’s Operation Anchorage DLC we see them in use by the Pre-War US forces retaking Anchorage. A specific commando unit the “screaming eagles” also used a variant with AR-10 style furniture.

I believe you're wrong about the MASSIVE STEEL. It's not exactly a gyrojet round in the show, since it's.. not a rocket? it never seems to work like one. What it does look like is a fin-stabilized slug. An explosive fin-stabilized slug. That would make sense, since you could actually put it into a shotgun shell. Altough, everything else is true about it. They sure screwed up while mutilating the MTs-255. I'd give it 2 bottle caps, still keeping it in the Meme tier.

In regards to the twin m240's 7.62x51 easily rips through aircraft and can be used in an anti aircraft role the only places it would struggle is if the cockpit window was armoured

To be fair to power armor, even if Bugthesda is pretty scarce on lore, either FO2 or Fallout Bible noted, that Enclave APA have only one weakness, helmet lenses, and even then you need a .50 BMG AP round to pierce it. Taknig that into account and extrapolating, the only upgrade in armor T-51 had is some sort of anti-energy weapon coating, so T-45 should, probably, tank anything up to .50 BMG, though not AP.

I would like to note that 19:32 in the subtitles says that it’s a small drop of a very large bucket of drugs, meaning that there is most likely a weird mix of various chems that create a tranquilising effect when hit with them. Plus Cooper could have just built a tolerance to overall chems in general since some ghouls like Hancock like to dabble a bit into the whole drug thing, and process drugs a little differently from others. Although we could argue that Hancock built up a tolerance to them as a human since he went in wild binges in a depressive part of his life. Cooper could have just done the same thing since the wasteland has clearly messed him up to an unbelievable level, merciless slaughter, cannibalism, drug usage, bonding with someone by severing their finger and then having his finger severed too, the whole lot.

Also, when it comes to PA durability, it's noted in lore that the Communist Chinese and NCR have great trouble with PA troops, so that could mean even AMRs don't go through super easily

The show retconned power armor to be way worse because they couldn’t find a creative way to add tension to scenes that had power armor in them

3D print "wooden" furniture for a $400 PSA AR, weld a a strip of steel through the muzzle break, and you have a lore accurate Fallout prop gun that can run blanks. Throw in some random cowboy guns, maybe the odd FAL, BAR, or M14 and you'd be good to go.

That's not a MTS-255, it's a short modification of MTS-255, but it uses non lethal rouds (rubbers bullets) and it was designed to used by Police. And name of it MTS-255-12

Basically the same gun except the OTs-62 is typically seen donning polymer furniture instead of wood, on top of being shortened. Either way they're only a visual reference since the gun in the show appears to be single-action and reload from a top-break instead of swing-out cylinder.

My head canon for the assault rifle is that it was made by the bos so theu could use scavenged ammo but the people making it only had experience making/using energy weapons. So they added a bunch of stuff on there that didn't really need to he there making it only useable with power armor.

What happened to the Tesla cannons we got for this same chapter of the brotherhood to fight back the enclave in fallout 3? Where are all the laser rifles that almost every knight and paladin use as it’s almost their main weapon of choice?

Its not really pay to win. If you dont know what you're doing, buying a premium tank/plane is more pay to lose than anything. No amount of money will make you not suck. I remember when XM1 came out and all level 1 kids bought it only to be slaughtered because they had zero game experience. Ofc, I am talking about realistic as I have like 1000 hours in the game. Never touched arcade so maybe its different there.

@@kvproductions2581 Anyone who goes into war thunder wanting to play only modern jets and tanks is someone who openly ignores like 95% of the game as is. Ofcourse LATE GAME stuff will be grindy in a FREE TO PLAY game. Up until relatively recently modern stuff was domain of April Fools in wt and not a selling point. Up until recently the highest tier late game was early cold war that took barely any grind if you weren't dogshit at the game. Not to mention the attraction of WT for longest time was ww2 anyway. Point still stands that if you skip progress you are not winning and you will get your shit pushed in because, guess what, you ignored the entirety of the content and completely ignored the basics. Yes, WT has some shitty practices and yes, grind bloat is inevitable with time like in every free to play game. But entering a game that is very much advertising itself with A LOT of content from pre war to modern day and regarding everything not modern day as grindy hassle is ENTIRELY on you. It's like starting Diablo and complaining why you aren't fighting end game mobs from the start.

That one irked me the most. I mean really, shooting from the one point where there should be no barrel with 6 barrels pointlessly spinning around it? All they had to do was move the muzzleflash.gif up a bit for it to make sense, but Hollywood just had to be Hollywood.

Okay, calling the fallout 4 assault rifle that is absolutely ridiculous and insane. BUT I really, really love the design because IMO this chunky gun goes really well with the chunky build of the PAs in the game

Honestly at least they portrayed that it has weight, its hard to use that thing without power armor. And thats kind of the problem it was designed for Power Armor. While it looks good in PA outside not so much as in Game.

But it’s still used 5.56 which doesn’t make sense if ur a PA user if they used a more fully powered cartridge than an intermediate one it would have actually mechanically made sense.

Likely, I mean a "Bolt gun" Is basically a gyrojet with a warhead and a cased kicker charge. A neat concept sadly popularized by warhammer, a shit blender for neat concepts. For the show not quite I think, it has no rocket assist so its probably more like the frag12 rounds
