Hi ! I know this radio very well because I worked in this factory in Vienna where it was also build. We produced them in the late 60is till 1974. It was the best model we produced in this time, but the "TOURING EUROPA" who is 5 years older sounded much better also without the tweeter. This Radio hade the most problems wit the doublesided PCB, the connections between the two sides are failing in many times after some years. I still own 2 of them (EUROPA and INTERNATIONAL) and they both work pretty ! It was nice to meet this Radio here :-) Greetings Heinz

I WONDER HOW MANY hams watch your vids, I think most hams try to do the right thing for there equipment, your talking about a few not all, be nice ,we all love electronics, that's why we watch your vids. You do a great job in what you do. Cheers

DJ Steeves I'm not taking shots at hams. Real hams that is. Guys that have had their licence longer than me, which is about 35 years now. Back then you had to know how to build a receiver and transmitter. You had to demonstrate your knowledge on the test. You also had to know mores code. Then something happened. They removed code and every cb'er got their ham ticket. However, saying that I do have a scope that was "totally" serviced and it is sending 85 volts out on the input connector. The vast majority do know what they are doing. I laughed at the big piece of string used to fix the dial string here but other than that this unit just needed servicing.

My dad has an amateur radio operator's license. He has made so many makeshift repairs. He used a desk lamp as a ceiling light. He even used a laundry faucet in the bathtub of his old home when the original broke.

ITT gear was always pretty solid. We had ITT HiFi 80 Series components for almost thirty-odd years and they gave faultless service. I recall the speakers had real wood veneer and Audax drivers. Very nice! :)

These are excellent radios. I have several of these sets and the sound is totally amazing and very powerful when plugged on 240v (6w ?). I had to restring 2 of them, and this is somewhat challenging. Also, variable capacitor was "frozen" and I had to dismount and oil them. The broken dial plastic is unfortunate...
@blakebechtel51925 жыл бұрын
That plate on the power plug can be moved to set the radio's transformer to run on 120v.

Love it! Going off about some hams doing half ass jobs and later doing exactly that with the dial string etc. Ironic!

In earlier days you might have been able to get BBC Radio 4 on 198khz / 1514m before first light in the morning there in winter as it's a dark path all the way (edit - from the UK) to western Canada but lf/mf/hf dx is well nigh impossible now due to all the noise from powerline ethernet, smps and such like. Take it with you as far from civilisation as possible (not difficult in Canada) and run it on batteries. I used to get MF Nova Scotia stations and Canforce Halifax / International Ice Patrol weatherfax regular here in autumn / winter but gave up as all the noise drove me up the wall. Car radios weren't fitted as standard in Britain up till the start of the '80s and they were very expensive. The car radio antenna socket was precisely that. The AD161 / 162 pair would provide plenty of oomph for your Mini. The likes of Roberts, Bush and even some old valve radios (the ones that needed 90v and 1.5v) had that socket too :-)

In the UK, the ham bands are meant to be notched out of the ADSL spectrum. I have S9 QRN most of the time. Thank goodness for modern filters on the IC7300.
@12voltvids4 жыл бұрын
The ham bands are notched our if ADSL by the modem when it detects ham interference because strong ham transmitters will interfere with ADSL as will am radio but unless the frequency is busy they tear up the 160 80 40 and 20m bands.

ITT KB radios always had good sound, even the smallest one, the ITT KB Tiny, was pretty good.

I have an ITT Radio. Not sure of model as all I can see on the front is "ITT" one end and "Golf Electric" the other end. One of the slider knobs keeps falling off, I don;t want to glue it back on incase I have to take it off to open the radio again. I got it in a job lot of radios I randomly purchased on ebay, all as spares or repairs. The only thing wrong with it was the tuning string, it had come off. I found a diagram of how the string should be fitted and got it back in place and working.......until it popped off the pulley's again. Took me three attempts to get it to stay put and so far, it has. I'm not an expert at fixing radio's I just like to buy some at random on ebay and see if I can fix them, usually dirt cheap as well so if I mess it up who cares? lol

It is a UK market set, dates from the early 70's. Not surprised you had connection problems with the board, but the biggest problem on these is the band push buttons, a good dose of switch cleaner will sort it. These sets are good performers, the caps used are not usually a problem, all good quality parts.

Philadelphia has 240V not 120V. just wondering if a BFR96 transistor would work in the AM oscillator circuit as well as the RF preamp for MW/LW/SW.

No offense taken on "Ham fisted" repair jobs. I took a barely working Kenwood TS-430, undid 5 "fixes", repaired the original problem and recalibrated the ALC. It works fine now.

ITT were massive here in the UK in the 70s and 80s, we had all the ITT radios, didnt know they were an american brand though, but yea they were huge here. these radios had incredible bassy sound, so good actually i used to use mine as a keyboard amplifier for my korg MicroKorg, im surprised you didnt totally clean the mainboard with alcohol before soldering though? that glue does become conductive, i use oven cleaner for old circuit boards it does a wonderful job brings them back like brand new. for battery compartment foam or circuitboard foam i always use door frame sealant tape, or felt tape it works wonderful. god i wished they made stuff this good today but thats not gonna happen.
@InssiAjaton6 жыл бұрын
Synthematix - Amen! The exterior of the radio shows a number of resemblances to another ITT radio, brand Schaub Lorenz. My mother got one in the 1970’s and it still works great as I witnessed when visiting my brother who inherited it. ITT owned Schaub Lorenz before WW2 and again after the war. But they have done a lot more, including semiconductor components. I remember we used their 1N4148 diodes. And last but not least, I still have an ITT made electronic flash for a Polaroid SX-70 camera. Other than that, ITT has owned trade schools, mostly in Latin Americas. Maybe they still have?
@Synthematix6 жыл бұрын
wow didnt know that, every experience ive had with ITT stuff is theyve always been very good quality, same as Ferguson and Philips radios from that era. all good stuff, even ALBA were a top brand in the 70s so were BUSH, but now theyre cheap and chinese. ITT were the BOSE of the era.

So kindly tell me cases of this problem and how to fix this fault? Best Regards

It's a shame that some pillock cracked the glass, and the arse that lost the pointer :-(. It looks like it's been a shed radio, never looked ater. When i saw the removable power plate i hoped it had 120v, but no :-(. Brandes was a canadian company, iTT was american so canada and american roots :-D
@12voltvids6 жыл бұрын
zx8401ztv It works fine on 120. Sure the voltage is a bit low but it works. Wouldn't be a big deal to swap the transformer

Of course it's got Long Wave , dial is in metres, as well as 240V, which definitely means it was originally sold in Britain or Ireland. Someone apparently brought it to Canada at sometime.

@zx8401ztv6 жыл бұрын
Oh yes i know you are good at that, cable ties are so dam usefull. As far as i know they are an american invention, something to do with aircraft wiring looms being tied together with twine manually. Something like that. I happen to love heatshrink tubing, super neat solder joins in leads.

KB meaning Kolster-Brandes. Which was the original radio company before it became part of the ITT Corp.

Where was this made? Germany?
@michaelturner44576 жыл бұрын
It was made in the UK, in Sidcup, Kent. Looks like maybe around about 1970. I think they stopped using the ITT-KB brand in 1974, and after was just ITT for radios and TV. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolster-Brandes

Enjoyed your videos for some time ; heard you ask people to watch ads so you can make money. But when people ask you where you get schematics you can’t show the courtesy of answering them. Kind of “one way” in your thinking,aren’t you
