The doctor who helped catch child-killer Lucy Letby has told ITV News that babies' lives could have been saved if hospital bosses had contacted police sooner.
Dr Ravi Jayaram, who is a consultant paediatrician at the Countess of Chester Hospital, said he repeatedly raised concerns about his former colleague months before police were alerted.
In an exclusive interview, he has detailed to ITV News how executives at the top of the organisation at the time told him to “draw a line” under his suspicions and to apologise to Lucy Letby for his accusations.

they admin looked the other way because they were incentivized to do so. if they believed the doctors and called the police, and she was or wasn't, nobody would want to go to the hospital anymore. I wouldn't want to go there for an aspirin! so they closed their eyes and hoped it woudl go away, so they could keep their fat paychecks and cushy jobs. they should face some culpability, even if it is just getting personally sued by some of the latter parents for not stopping her sooner. the hospital admin made a choice. a conscious choice. and if you don't want it to keep happening, then you heed to assign consequences. 🤷‍♂

These "attacks" were reported to span the period running from June 2015 to June 2016. At the time, nobody suspected Lucy Letby of wrong-doing. Two facts for starters: It was ONLY after the consultants who were running the neonatal unit became the subject of a critical report from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) that they went on to file a report with the police alleging the infant deaths were due to the actions of nurse Lucy Letby... In all but one case, the infants received autopsies and the coroner found that they died of natural causes... Draw your own inferences (...)

I'm a physician in Canada and how much of a hindrance management was in this case does not surprise me. After 13+years of training to be in this role, we are often roadblocked by highly paid, under-educated and out of touch managers who have very little idea what it's like actually facing patients and families outside a cubicle. doctors are trained on critical thinking and reading between the lines so their "gut feeling" is rarely baseless or biased. Moreover, anyone who has worked in medicine can tell you it is nearly impossible to get 7 consultants to agree on one opinion so by the time even 3 consultants shared this worry about Lucy, all the alarm bells should have been going off among managers. so sad their incompetence and focus on image cost the lives of many babies. Rest in peace little angels

Bless this man's soul. The pressure and guilt he was put through is disgusting. He knew in his heart that he was right, but was bullied into disbelieving himself. May you find peace, serenity, and forgiveness. Know that you are not responsible for the actions of others. You are loved and forgiven.

He didn't do anything actually. He was a coward and did what he was told and should have just risked being fired by going to Police. I'm sure he could have set himself up in private practice if fired. Who would want to work for the NHS under those circumstances? I'd rather flip burgers at MacDonald's than help protect a baby murderer. Also he and his colleagues could have set up their own spy camera and caught her in the act and taken the footage to Police, without informing the hospital.

Are you aware it was the trust that called the police in the end? Not this Doctor or any of the other six Doctors? They did not report it to a regulatory body (nmc) outside of the trust. They did not go to the media. If the trust (under new leadership) did not call the police it could still be happening. Confused as to how Dr Ravi is a hero? There were many other avenues the Doctors who were concerned could have taken to stop this. They chose not to. Those were vulnerable babies. All patients rely on *brave* whistleblowers.

@@therevolutioniscoming1569 - actually if you read the timelines, after being made to apologise, he did continue his private investigation along with the other concerned consultants. You have to remember that there was no definite evidence at that time so there will have been a lot of uncertainty and what the executives were saying wasn't without merit i.e. all that the doctors had at that time was circumstantial so it's understandable that they didn't go all out, guns blazing.

In the overall scheme of things, Lucy Letby was a very young nurse with just a few years experience at the onset of the murders. She graduated in 2011, took a post basic certification, and then worked full time from 2012-2016, which is not that long compared to the experience of a neonatologist who has worked since 1992. The combined experience of the concerned doctors and nurses would have been decades long, yet the management blindly supported a nurse whose activities raised alarm bells within short time after she graduated. They too are culpable in the deaths of the babies.

Senior doctors or ( ward head ) must scrutinise the progress of his word and must be held responcible along with the ward head nurse regarding all medication issued and administrated. All medication lockers including the refregirators must be monitored and sighened by issusing staff with time issued. The British taught this many decades ago to all countries they ruled. Why Then ? These procedures not followed now? The management must also be held responsible.

Well, this is what happens when you push certain individuals into higher positions, because they're apart of a certain demographic. You have graduates who know little to nothing, being prepped for higher leadership roles, over workers more deserving. Then the higher ups are quick to cover any of their mistakes. It happens all the time in the NHS.

Wasn’t the hospital downgraded from a level 2 once Lucy was dismissed? It would only make sense that deaths would be considerably less. Not saying Lucy isn’t guilty. But seems like a fairly large omission to drive a narrative.
