Yeah. Thanks to Disney+, I found that the last actually funny episode for me is the Treehouse of Horror episode where Homer gets cursed by a gypsy, Pierce Brosnan voices an A.I. house that falls for Marge and tries to kill Homer, and a Harry Potter parody where Bart and Lisa go to a school for kid wizards, though most Simpsons fans who grew up with the good episodes cut off after either the Frank Grimes episode, that weird episode with the jockey elves, or the season 11 finale that's a parody of "Behind the Music" and "E! True Hollywood Story". As a kid, though, I always thought the show should have ended either after the "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" two-parter, the 138th episode spectacular, the season seven finale where Lisa pretends to be a beach girl so she can make friends, or that season eight episode with Poochie the Dog. As an adult, the finale for me is either the episode where Homer runs for sanitation commissioner, floods the town with trash, and causes everyone to move away (in a twist on how most family sitcoms at the time ended with all the cast members moving out, often ending on one of the characters turning off the light as he or she stares at the living room in that "I'm going to miss this place" style way) or the season 17 episode where Homer tries to take Bart to a behavioral modification camp, Marge sells expired prescription meds, and the whole thing ends with Lisa telling Maggie that they're the only family members left and that Lisa will find a job in the morning. TLDR: in this age of streaming services and finding new things to watch, you don't have to watch the crummy new episodes. You can choose which episode was the last one that was funny to you (of which there are several in my case) and stop right there.

I enjoyed the film myself, but it was 15 years ago now lol, I never thought it would stay on this long. I figured making a movie was the sign that the show was winding down. But I don't consider the film much different from an episode made of the same era, because they were using the same writers (more or less), you're not going to get a different product. Safe to say the show itself was less funny in 2007 than in 1992, and I don't think it's just nostalgia. It's the writing.
@nickrustyson8124
@nickrustyson8124 Жыл бұрын
Nah it's nostalgia, I have been watching some of those Golden Age episodes, it's like 20% jokes we heard everyone referenced, and 80% shit no one remembers, and that is just jokes, in terms of plot, well Homer and Marge are on edge of getting divorced, Bart is doing something uninteresting, and Lisa haven't really became her own character yet

Great episode! So interesting to hear what went into making the movie behind the scenes. The hive mind and the trying to appeal to a general audience makes it make a lot more sense now. I personally really enjoyed the movie seeing it in the theater (I was 18) but also felt like it was a hollow experience at the same time. It definitely had some great moments but was missing the heart that the show had (particularly in the earlier years).

1:10:45 unrelated to The Simpsons Movie, but this reminded me haha my friend is planning on showing his wife Star Wars for the first time, and he grew up having seen the prequels first. I tried to convince him that the best way to see them for the first time is originals first but he won’t budge on it. I was trying to find a way to politely say that his wife should have the opportunity to see the original trilogy without the stain of the prequels (which I do enjoy, but for very different reasons!), but I didn’t feel it was my place to. He and I experienced Star Wars very differently growing up, and he has the right to share it how he likes. As much pain as it causes me. It’s definitely a generational thing even though he and I are only nine years apart!

YEEEES! I was hoping for something Simpsons related! Here in Argentina The Simpsons are HUGE HUGE. I'm 33 and I remember watching them on tv pretty much since I have memory. During my teenage years, on Sunday air tv would have a marathon from 1pm till 8pm and then we will turn on Fox for the new episode that was aired 8:30pm. Basically half of Argentinians jokes have something Simpsons-related Like if we want to say that you went to an event that flopped you would say (like Homer telling Marge about how many friends she had) "(in that place)we were just Lisa and the stove"

An idea they had early on you guys didn't mention was having George W. Bush as the president instead of Schwarzenegger (it would've been his first and only appearence in the series). He was originally going to have Maggie's role at the end in dropping the rock on Cargill and saving Homer and Bart. For a very liberal show, especially one that has had a track record of adimosity with the Bushes specifically, I find it so funny Bush was going to be the surprise hero of the film for a time lmao

Everyone in Springfield was going to die and it was all Homer's fault. Before they were trapped in the dome but at least they were safe. Escaping from an angry mob is one with but not helping them after you doomed them is another.

Here’s something funny: I don’t even like The Simpsons…but I like this movie… I wasn’t allowed to watch the show growing up, not because my parents disapproved, but because my mum just thought it was stupid. I’ve seen a handful of episodes and I know the jokes and characters through pop culture osmosis. But funnily enough, the episodes I always liked were the serious ones, like the blowfish episode. I always gravitate towards moments in comedy where they let the show have pathos. I was genuinely sad that Homer was convinced he was going to die.

This podcast was a pleasure (it was reminiscent of the Simpsons DVD commentaries). I was impressed that the filmmakers showed restraint in not going all South Park for the movie; it was fun to see a few non-TV moments (Bart's penis, Marge's "God damn"), but they didn't take unnecessary advantage.

I've always said that the show itself should've ended a season or two after the movie came out because there was nowhere else to go from there but down...and boy did the simpsons go downhill after the movie. I basically stopped watching new ep's of the show in the early 00's and haven't watched one in at least 20 years, the movie was its last gasp for me. The other long running show that I watched was The Red Green Show which ended with great dignity in 2006 after 15 years on the air and 300 episodes, it also had it's own film (Duct Tape Forever: The Red Green Movie) in 2003.

Well, to be fair, broadcast TV ratings have been dwindling each and every year since 1980s, because of the introduction of VHS tapes, DVDs, iTunes and now streaming services, so it’s not really accurate to compare viewership from 1990 to 2022. The Simpsons, in its current Season 34, is the second highest rated show on TV so far this year, so it’s not doing too terribly. It was also one of the Top 5 most watched shows on Disney+ last year, it’s probably not going to be cancelled unless something out of the blue happens.

30:50 Reminds me of Top Gear once signing off (during the billiard world cup) with "we're off next week because someone apparently wants to watch grown men play with their balls on a table."

I must say I find your channel something I do look forward to... although I suggest there is a gold mine of shit shows in history... some that come to mind are: ~ Any film involving Marilyn Monroe, but especially, "The Misfits", "Some like it Hot"... ~ Any movie involving Steven Seagal... ~ Films made by James Cameron, and in particular "The Abyss" ~ Film made by Terry Gilliam such as The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Brazil.... ~ Cleopatra.... I hope this helps....

A bunch of those are on the list. However, I already did The Abyss on a previous channel. See our playlist section. Thanks for listening!

Love the show! Ever think of doing something on Don Bluth? He practically dominated animation for a good while then just sort of vanished after Titan A.E. which itself was a sh*tshow to make, I've heard. Supposedly he was working on a Dragon's Lair movie with Ryan Reynolds attached to star, but that seems to have gone nowhere too

Not Don Bluth specifically, but I have a bunch of animated films on the list.

I disagree that the movie is unmemorable. Homer and Bart driving the Motorcycle on the side of the dome is one of the funniest action sequences in Simpsons history.
