Although his band members appeared to voice the background singers in the video, Billy Joel actually recorded every voice you hear in this song. His vocal abilities often get overlooked because of his amazing writing and playing skills, but the man can sing.

My favorite song by him. The Doo Wop harmonies are on point. His catalog is so diverse. I love when artists are well rounded & can switch up styles. He spans different eras.

His whole Album "Innocent Man" is legit dedicated to his later teenage years growing up with Doo Wop and other late 50's and early 60's music that he listened too.

Done in a capella style(without instruments)a lot of kids at the time were doing that in schools or street corners to hopefully be discovered and make records and of course.....to impress girls

not directly, but theres clips of him playing the song on a piano in a classical style. However, the very next song after this one on the Innocent Man album is "This Night," and its chorus takes its melody and chord progression directly from Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique. The liner notes in the album even give a songwriting credit to "L. Beethoven"

@@wvman2374 I remember when I first got into the innocent man album my mother was dying of cancer and all of those songs every single one of those songs were special to me.... I think it's important for people to understand that you can't just spice up your music with classical touches it has to come from the soul and it has to be organic and it has to come from the heart....u can't fake this stuff or we would all be billy Joel's
