Sogyeokdong, Love Story, and Cat (with Sunwoojunga, can't wait for you to react to this!) are among my favorite IU collaborations. She also co-wrote Not Spring, Love, or Cherry Blossoms, btw! The music video for Sogyeokdong still gives me chills. I think it's a great tribute to a turbulent time in SK's history. I agree with most of what you said, including the girl being most likely abducted. The siren could also probably mean the start of curfew.

I knew IU as a kpop singer and actress, but after Sogyeokdong, I realized that IU is more than an idol but an artist. I couldn't believe she was part of a project that tackled the political and historical controversial topics. You are close with your take of the story behind Sogyokdong. This is a very special project that Seo Taiji and IU had two separate cuts of the same story for two MVs but with the same melody for this song. If you watch Seo Taiji's cut of the MV, the story is much clearer. It's true that the girl's family was taken away. Apparently listening on the radio was considered illegal during that period. That sowed the seed for the ensuing tragedy. This is a very powerful societal commentary of that period. I was left in deep thought after watching it, both mesmerized by IU's interpretation and the "what-if" questions about the story. It is quite amazing how much IU collaborated with other artists, and tremendously successful at that. Such a feat is rarely seen in any musical world. Great combo in this video. Wonderful recommendations as well.
