Absolutely beautiful and iconic performance 🥺🥺 You're right, she shared the stage with "nameless" musicians with this meaningful song Dear Name. And we have to note that this is such a huge stage, not everyone gets to perform on award show stages, and a huge award show at that. And that place is filled with different fandoms and idols and artists. She indeed got emotional towards the end, so beautiful to see.

You chose the wrong version of this performance to react to. There are at least 2 others that provide subtitles that would have help you understand what is going on. The Lyrics of Dear Name talk about sending a message out and hoping it gets there before it is too late. If also uses fireflies as a means of getting the messages of hope out. It also talks about not forgetting the person or the persons name. Now a little history. During one of her performances, unknown to her name placards were handed out to the audience and they wrote there names on then and then held them up during her performance. It so surprised and moved her that she had to regroup to complete the song. From that point it has taken on a life of it's own. The 4 singers were 2 female backup singers, one of which is one of hers, a new kpop artist who had just debuted and a street bushing singer. Then you hear the others on stage start to say " my name is" and their names. Then the electronic message board is listing the names. Some of those on stage are holding jars to simulate jars of fireflies. And that little smile she gave before the 4 singers started was in fact her effort to keep having tears flow down her face. Very emotional, moving and outstanding performance. But like so much of what IU does if you don't have at least a basic background of the song, the lyrics etc you will be lost.
