As a mua, I use setting spray more for the purpose of melting everything together than lasting power. The right setting spray could really rehydrate and tie a look together, especially when patted in with a beauty sponge. It also comes in handy underneath makeup sometimes

@@paresseuxdesneiges so for myself I just use the morphe, because it's a super fine mist and does the trick. For clients with oilier skin, I really like the one size mattifying spray in an aerosol spray can. I do also like the urban decay for both underneath and over makeup, but I prefer a finer mist so I transfer to a bottle with a different nozzle. There's also a great little brand called sukiru beauty that has a very good setting spray. (Their liquid blushes are also awesome!)

When I first started using makeup, I was using it to "fix" my skin issues & it didn't work bc that's not what it's for. And coming to that realization has helped so much. Your skin is your skin & it's going to have texture & that's fine. If you want to help those "issues", that's where skin care comes in & again your skin is always going to look like skin & your makeup is always going to look like makeup & that's okay🙌

As a SFX MUA I often use setting spray. The setting sprays for SFX makeup can actually set the makeup pretty well, and help the makeup stay on a bit longer. I wouldn’t use that on a daily basis with regular makeup though, they can be a bit drying, and some of the good ones really smells of alcohol. On regular makeup I also use setting sprays (“normal” setting spray) but more for the purpose of “melting” the makeup together, and for rehydrating the skin, but the right face spray works just as well Edit; since someone asked, what setting spray I use do depend on the sfx look and what I need the spray to do, but I find myself using the green marble selr or blue marble selr the most.

As a perimenopausal woman, I've had to dramatically adjust my makeup routine. I've found that primer just slides the makeup off during hot flashes. So I skip primer and start with powder to absorb sweat followed by foundation and then nyx setting spray. I spray my face, then lay flat and use a fan to dry completely (and repeat). It's a lengthy process but it's the only way that I've found (so far) that helps makeup last after intense face sweats. This is just a FYI, for anyone else going through it. If any one else has tips please share, I'm desperate 😏
@DinkyInky2
@DinkyInky2 Жыл бұрын
Perimenopausal for Lord inows how long, ages it seems😹😹. Anyway, skincare first. I've always used Korean moisturisers, applied with a cool tool and cold hands, then let it sink in for 20 minutes or so. I do use a putty type primer and only use powders on top of it. Anything cream/liquid comes right off if I sweat even a little. I set everything with a sprayable SPF. Pat in excess with SPF dampened sponge, let dry completely, spray a second time. Apply any powder you want to give an extra boost like a blush, then off you go. I had to sit through jury selection for five bloody hours in a very warm courtroom, and my makeup did not budge. Also, because they put us by a window, I had SPF on, so bonus. My skin is normal most of the time, but I occasionally get oily on my nose and by my hairline, so I don't know if my tricks will help. I will say if you do try it, a double cleanse is an absolute necessity.

Facial sweats are the worst!!. Now, I use very little moisture/primer/spf etc on my skin BEFORE my powder foundation and only powder foundation..... Then, I make sure to wash off and apply hydration/serums/eye creams/lip masks etc at night time so skin will look better in the morning after a coolish splash with water. I find that my facial skin can't breathe with all the products on it before I apply my powder foundation.

When you find a concealer that works for you its a win in my book. I have deep set eye sockets and blue under tones its ridiculous, yet you're right - a little goes a long way and skin moves so it will eventually crease. The setting spray is one I just have a hard time agreeing with. Here in the Midwest US we have horribly humid summers. The times I didn't use it, my makeup melted off my face within an hour. I worked at a bar, cooking on the grill and it didn't move and was the same hours later. When I went to New Orleans, it was horrible there too. I forgot my setting spray and I had a costume/mask ball. So I got the Charlotte Tillbury and one/size and holy hell. I had put on a very white foundation I had mixed because vampire. It lasted from 7pm till 5am in the ungodly humidity. The other days I was down there without it, I might as well have just not even bothered. Yes this is anecdotal, but I feel like the setting spray opinion is also anecdotal. Mostly because climate and skin is different for almost everyone. Ps. The Charlotte Tillbury is amazeballs for melting everything together. Then the One/Size on top is like magic.

Same! I'm in Chicago, weather fluctuates daily, year round. Humid summers, dry winters😮‍💨 I also find the setting spray helps in summer, but especially when you use powders and matte foundation, it makes the face look less dry. Last year, i stopped using primer except for my upper lids, and i switched to using "sticky" moisturizers like my DIY aloe gel, and i use raw cocoa butter or raw shea butter after my skincare. The butters help the foundation glide, but stick in place, and i set it with a light layer of powder (avoid the eyelids, less creasing).😄 For summer i use my diy aloe gel after serums, then apply a bit of raw cocoa butter, and another layer of aloe to absorbs the extra oil in the butter before makeup and setting spray. In the winter, i use the aloe, then a generous amount of raw cocoa butter under my Eucerin lotion, to protect from the cold, dry air all day! My skin is baby soft year round, and my super dry skin is taken care of🥰

Setting sprays defintely can and do work lmao Ask any special effects makeup artist like myself. They seal in paint on a prosthetic, and they make standard makeup QUITE transfer resistant. That girl just wanted to be a contrarian. Blue Marble, Green Marble, Ben Nye Final Seal, Kryolan Fixing Spray, etc. They have actual plastic copolymers in them that create a true physical shield layer over your makeup.

Ever since I started using setting spray *before* I apply makeup, I literally never get under-eye creasing anymore. What I do first is spray all over before any makeup, then I take a beauty blender/sponge, spray a generous amount of setting spray onto the sponge and firmly pat and press it into the areas where I crease (under eyes and on eyelids), then apply concealer. And viola, no more creasing whatsoever. I’m not sure why I don’t ever see more people talk about this technique (tbh I don’t even remember where I originally heard it from, and I don’t have TikTok so definitely not from there) but if it works 100% for me then it may very well work for someone else. As for my skin type, I currently have combination skin (it’s still winter here so I get a bit oily and dry) and am acne-prone. Overall since I discovered this technique months ago, I seriously no longer get under-eye creasing from any of the concealers I have in my rotation. I don’t have a huge collection at all, but nonetheless, it works and creasing is no longer an annoying issue for me. My current favorite setting spray is Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional Super Setter Spray. Heard of it from Amanda Z and it’s amazing. It does actually seem to hold up to the slight blurring affect that it claims, at least in my opinion. I love it.

There is exemption to this rule of course but if you are a female just pay attention to skin each individual has different types of skin so change up your game to best suite the client. I was an apprentice to an effects artist then painted many drag Queens males faces work best I believe with blurring silicone based primer. Also I put on myself when I do full glam,effects or like halloween makeup. My English sucks so does my grammar but I am sure robert will go into types of primer, if it says primer it might not blur only moisterize. Same with setting spray make sure it says it does what you intend for it to do.

I've only been doing makeup for a few months; for years it was just concealer, black eyeliner, and talcum powder. Then I saw someone with rainbow eyes and realised I needed that in my life so I started looking up tutorials and stuff - "No creasing! Make foundation look like skin! 24 hour perfect coverage! Get the lip filler look!" Liars. Smitha, I trusted you!!! I ended up hating my skin and face and how it looked more than I ever did with the bloody talcum powder. Robert's advice didn't just help me get my routine down to a fraction of the time using affordable products (and it looks great! I'm getting carded at bars and pubs, and I'm 41 y/o somehow), it greatly improved my self esteem too. I can't imagine how much harder this whole thing would have been if I was a teenager, getting my entire perspective on beauty from social media. You know where I first learned makeup techniques? A free pamphlet that came with a women's magazine my mum used to get. Not great. But compared to all the filters and liars and clickbaity titles, I think I was lucky.

Wait Smitha as in Smitha Deepak? If that's who you're referring to what did she lie to you about? I follow her to but will take what she says with a grain of salt if what you're saying is true.

@@nancykerrigan She has a few of those unattainable standards videos - like how to make full foundation look like perfect bare skin, how to eradicate undereye creasing while still using powder and concealer, etc. Very standard stuff for beauty tutorials but, as Robert tells us, these things just aren't actually possible! I found myself trusting her more than most creators tho, so I bought a bunch of products on her advice that turned out to be no better or worse than stuff I already had... (well the Airspun powder she recommended was terrible on me, immediately turns orange and clumps. I've tried it with a few product combinations, and it ruins everything it touches, boo) Tbh her technique to fix undereye creasing looked worse than what I was doing before 😔 Her eyeshadow tutorials are great and most of her advice seems pretty sound (and as a person she seems really nice, too) so I still like her stuff!

On the subject of setting sprays, yes your makeup will be broken down from underneath by the oils your skin produces… if you’re oily. I have super-dry skin, so when I put any powder product on it basically sits like chalk dust on a chalkboard and could probably be blown away by the wind; but following that up with a setting spray will really melt it onto my face and make it last a lot longer. It’s really about finding out where the threat to your makeup is coming from and using the spray as a barrier in the right location.

I agree with the mascara thing for sure. I used to go through a tube of mascara within three to four months when I used to wear it everyday. Since COVID though, I’m in head-to-toe PPE fairly often at work (still) and haven’t worn makeup to work in 3 years so I definitely don’t go through mascara quick enough to make a full size worth it. Also, I watched the Welsh Twins video just before this one and now I’m suddenly getting Shazzer Tibs ads, thanks a lot 😂

I have actually had a lot of luck with keeping my under eyes from creasing by using the elf power grip primer under my concealer and then setting with powder! I’m always surprised at the end of the night to see my concealer looking the same as when I applied it in the morning

Marilyn Monroe’s makeup artist was the first one to put red around the eyes, people think Bella and others were the first. Bella just looks ill and angry all the time. Sometimes wish models would smile. Instead they are used to have this look of disgust on their faces 😂 Here is to wishing for more smiles in the future! ❤

Laura Mercier has got to be the only primer I actually like using, and only sparingly at that (shits crazy pricey). It’s wild because when you put it on it feels SO dry, and I’ve got oily t zone with flaky skin elsewhere, so that made me nervous. But my makeup sits BEAUTIFULLY on top of it all day. Other than that for special occasions or long days, I like a cheap setting spray under my makeup or in summer nothing at all. Robert and all of us are not exaggerating when we say your face is your face and you’ll enjoy your makeup so much more when you stop expecting it to fix your skincare, defy physics, and give you plastic surgery 😂 out of all the “influencers “ in the beauty community I think the welsh twins are so healthy and positive. When my girls get old enough and want to get into that stuff Robert and James will be the first and only thing I show them lol

The ONLY time you will EVER catch me watching TikToks is when Robert does these reaction videos, I figure if he has to suffer through it I might as well suffer through it with him... and by that I mean thoroughly enjoy watching Robert's reaction to the dumb, idiotic things people say on TikTok as he somehow keeps his head from exploding and corrects their errors in the most polite, most courteous, and most British way possible 😂 I've always admired and envied the art of being able to completely read someone else to absolute filth in a way that is so polite, kind, and cheery that it leaves the other person thinking you just complimented them. Only the British can pull this off, and they are masters of their craft lol.

I rarely use mascara at all so for that purpose I've been using a cake mascara for the hygiene, the one from Besame specifically but I know other brands also do cake mascaras like kryolan - I think they even sell a special fluid for it that makes it waterproof.

Come back after being away for awhile from the beauty world. Just you and Johnny Ross and James for meeee. The realness, the joyful attitude... all a yes from me It's funny because I still do like a good primer if I am wearing a heavy foundation but honestly I have really moved away from more full coverage foundation. I much prefer tinted moisturizer now anymore. I have a blessing of having generally decent skin with occasional breakouts in small amounts so I much prefer having good skin care now then doing too much products in makeup. Honestly now I'm mostly an easy eyeshadow, eyeliner, fill in brows and a lipstick kind of person and I've found it better for me! But I love seeing everyone do what they love whether it's lighter makeup or a more full face! And all with Robert's kind and patient teaching
