This is my first yoyo from the iYoYo Brand, and it does peak my interest because of their designs on other yoyos. Unfortunately, with the price point of the Shooting Star ($30) and it's performance, it makes me wonder if their models are better.
The Shooting Star is still a fun yoyo. The good things are that it's very light to polish those speed combos, wide enough to make learning horizontal play pretty comfortable, smooth body finish, and the ability to switch between responsive and unresponsive bearings.
For $30...it's pretty borderline for me to suggest other yoyos, especially for other plastic yoyos that has a fingerspin cup as well. The Skyva, Crystal, Mojo (Own but yet to be reviewed), and even Trinity (Own but yet to be reviewed), AND all these just mentioned are between $7-20.
OK, maybe it doesn't feel like the Crystal, but it does have a fingerspin cup. The Shooting Star is a more comfortable version of the SkyVa. Rounder edge and lighter. But the bounce and performance is very similar.
My only gripe is that when in unresponsive play, the yoyo vibes like crazy. I tried switching out the bearing with other bearings I own and with the same results. When switched to the responsive bearing, it significantly improves it but doesn't fix the vibe completely. Does it affect the way it plays? Honestly, very little. There's a lot of good things the yoyo has that does outweigh this vibe issue.
Although...with the vibe and the price tag of $30, that does make it questionable.
