@@dw1419 Yes, I was very blessed to be at a high school that emphasized music highly. The band director, choir director, and orchestra director all collaborated to make sure to the highest degree possible that students could be in all of them. I played trombone in the band, and we had a full orchestra that would at certain times of the year borrow brass and woodwind students from the band. The choir director allowed band students to come for only half the period so that they could eat lunch. Some students were even in theater on top of all of that. Bruh, we have 1 clarinet player and 2 saxophone players :/ And I’m just jealous seeing how good they sound too. I play trombone though.

Only thing that ever tripped me up with this song as a clarinet player was the fact you have to basically blast the start of those with only the first clarinet so it never comes out clear enough if even one clarinet is off pitch or slightly out of tune. It's very short and awkward jabs that also need to sound clear. I hate it Really it's an endurance battle so if you March the song isn't that much of an issue if played at a reasonable tempo. If you don't practice and only play during the concert season then don't expect much. (Even seen college clarinet players with bad breathing control so I can't imagine high school clarinet players that don't play year round) I've seen many bands drop the song from their list for good.

I have literally never heard of a band where everyone plays all at once all the time, which is the only way you would have no idea what the other parts sound like. This is my all-time, hands down favorite Christmas song- perhaps because of Leroy Anderson's composition brilliance, perhaps because you don't need the lyrics to enjoy it. Attended Tonawanda High School in New York, Class of 1983, and this was the traditional holiday song at all the band concerts. I played percussion and already appreciated the trombone section's contribution, parked behind them like in this video, but I played the sleigh bells- not very challenging, mind you, but indispensable to the song.
