Ancient, biblical Smyrna (now Izmir, Türkiye) is where I graduated from the Izmir American High School in 1972. Now, I am 64 & appreciate it more now than when I was 17. This video presentation brought me both appropriate pride & tears.

Okul, 1878 tarihinde Amerikalı eğitimciler tarafından kentimizin Basmane semtinde, bir “çocuk yuvası” olarak kurulur. Basmane kampüsünün kalabalıklaşması ve öğrenci sayısının artması nedeniyle 1913’te “kentin dışında, Göztepe’de yedi dönümlük güzel bir bahçe satın alınmıştır.” İşte bu bahçe, şu anda üzerinde yaşadığımız kampüsün bir parçasıdır. “American Collegiate Institute” unvanı 1900’lerin başında kullanılmaya başlanır.

As a military brat, I grew up in Izmir. LOVE it. I lived in many beautiful cities around the world and Izmir is by FAR one of my most favorite. So much history, humanities and culture. The people are hospitable & the food is ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! If you ever get a chance to visit Turkey, go to Izmir, (as well as their closest beaches in Çeşme, which are amazing and known for their thermal springs). I try to visit every summer (best time of year to visit the west coast of Turkey).

I was 2 weeks in Bitez beach in Bodrum last year and visited Ephesus too. We had an amazing time!! Everyone was mentioning to visit Izmir which was not that far! Next time we pay a visit to this beautiful city . We love Turkey and their people.

Izmir is a beautiful city with diversity and tolerance. You are all welcome as brothers and sisters. The ones who made those offensive comments, you please leave this page. this video is for to introduce Izmir, for sharing and loving. Well, we are all human beings. For me there is no difference between a Greek or Turk or anyone else. However, I have to mention that after seeing some comments on this page. Izmir has 8500 years of history, it's ruled by Lydian, Persian, Macedonian, Roman, Byzantine and by Turks since 1076 AC. Yes, there is a huge Byzantine/Greek culture in Izmir as well as others. And we are proud of it. There was also a Greek population, unfortunately most of them left after Greek army failed on invasion Izmir at 1922. I'm sorry for them because it was their home. Anyways, history is history. We better build the future on brotherhood as a civilized member of human kind. That's what we learned from our great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
