The Night Owls present a short film of the song J'attendrai (Olivieri/Rastelli). The Song was performed by the Quintette du Hot Club de France in the 1938 film 'Jazz'.
The Night Owls are:
Nipper - Kala 8 String Tenor Ukulele / Vocals
Ali Foyle - Violin
Ian Elenor - Double Bass
Tom Walls - Drums
This film was made by Mike Bradshaw and Nipper.

"J'attendrai" is actually a French version of the Italian song "Tornerai" (Italian for "You Will Return" composed by Dino Olivieri (music) and Nino Rastelli (lyrics) in 1936, said to be inspired from the Humming Chorus of Puccini's Opera "Madame Butterfly". It was first recorded in 1937 by both Carlo Buti and Trio Lescano (accompanied by the Italian jazz quartet Quartetto Jazz Funaro and become a huge hit in Italy.

I just love it !!! a true compliment to one of the French adaptations of an Italian song written by Nino Rastelli (music by Dino Olivieri), Tornerai, herself inspired by the closed-mouthed choir (end of Act II), the opera Madam Butterfly of Puccini. The French lyrics are from Louis Poterat

Whatever happened to the Night Owls? I used to enjoy listening to them in various pubs in Taunton, but they have now left the scene. A different line up to this on but Nipper was present in both.

Hi Andrew... Sadly the Owls are no more but I am playing in a couple of bands, most notably The Water Gypsies. There are lots of films on my Channel and we will be gigging again later in the summer. I am based around Bath these days. kzfaq.info
