特に1話のはトラウマ物ですよね

旧アニメの45話のDDガールズとセーラー戦士の死も結構トラウマでした。

言っておくが、45話はかなり胸糞悪いし救いもないエピソード……

@@user-nq6xn3sn7h 当時視聴者(特に子供)がセーラー戦士が死んでいく場面を見て相当なトラウマに植え付けられ、視聴中に倒れたり、病院送りや登校拒否などが発生し、親からクレームが殺到し、テレビ朝日や東映動画にも訴えられる事件がありましたね。(自分はその当時に生まれてません、)

There is a HUGE difference in character designs and animation quality between S1 and the past 2 seasons. The disappointment people had with S1 is justifiable - The awful CGI transformations, wonky faces/animations, muted colors, etc and spawned many memes about the quality of the show. Yes, it improved and yes, it's nice they remade Sailor Moon at all but, if each season had looked the way that the Eternal and Cosmos movies look, a lot of people would have respected the re-telling more.

@@JS-hr2ft - The wonkiness was cause S1 had hardly much of a budget and manpower. Toei didn’t give the staff much funds and not even enough staff. Animators were working on episodes up to the day of their release and many were outsourced in order to get completed on time. So give them a break ok?

It’s nothing but animation from the first season which is what I was speaking to… In all seriousness if you actually look at the character designs, the first 2 seasons were the most detailed and honestly had the most effort put into them. Were there some wonky scenes here and there and some outsourced animation, sure. A lot of that was corrected on the Blu-rays. It’s also a magical girl anime and was given a magical girl anime budget. I also think a lot of people failed to realize that what the Crystal reboot as a whole is trying to emulate is the late 90s/early 2000s magical girl anime aesthetic. If you watch series like Mermaid Melody or Tokyo Mew Mew they deploy a lot of the same animation tactics that are popular in magical girl anime. The CGI transformations in all reality had some of the best SFX and choreography, Jupiter’s lightening, Mercury’s water, and Venus’s ribbons look superior to all of their 2D counterparts. Also given the context that this was done in 2014, 3D animation for TV shows wasn’t all that developed, especially in anime, it looked the best that it could at the time and in like I said in hindsight are some of the better transformations from Crystal. Season 3, Eternal, and Cosmos all increased in animation quality and fluidity, but they simplified the character designs to the point that it almost looks like they’ve aged in reverse lol. It probably would’ve been best to do the entire series in one style but it kind of works for each adaptation of the manga arcs. I’m really happy with first 2 seasons regardless, I still stand by the fact that people were way to harsh on the series.

I would be all for Toei redoing the first 3 seasons in this movie format and art. They tried to take liberties with Dark Kingdom that just ruined the original story that they would have to rewrite it, they stole all the Senshi’s moments but Venus not getting to kill Beyrl followed by them all getting their butts kicked by the Kings then Metalia blasting the Kings was awful (when in the manga they killed them all chapters ago!)

The writing isn’t even like the manga it heavily deviates from Usagi’s character in Act 6-12 (for example she never yells at Luna about Tuxedo Mask being an enemy and she doesn’t get flopped around like a damsel for 10 minutes with Zoisite; Usagi chases after evil Endimyon to save Venus in the manga vs Crystal selfish reasons. Oh and the girls blow up Kunzite in space) Then they tried to make an original plot that went absolutely nowhere causing the story and key moments to suffer. Dark Kingdom in the actual manga is an amazing story. Crystal’s original writers ruined it because they literally stated they thought giving the Guardians love interests would make them interesting. That’s why fans hate it.

@@kstarnovagal6672 These are still very little changes in comparison to what the 90s anime did. And it was even closer to the manga in the other seasons. The Shitennou x Senshi love story was Naoko's idea! She wanted to do it in the manga, but couldn't, due to time pressure. There's an artwork of the pairings, drawn by her. Also, they included these ships in many musicals, starting in 1993! Naoko has to supervise everything nowadays, do you really think they could've changed anything in Crystal, if she hadn't been okay with it?

I actually read the manga and own it for a decade so yes I know the picture, even in Sailor V it’s implied, however doesn’t mean they did well with it. That’s great the musicals are brought up because those are actually written well and show Crystal had zero excuse to botch the romance plot, thanks for that addition. If you also want to watch something with Naoko’s full supervision (which Crystal isn’t) watch Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (2004). You can say the changes the 90s made automatically makes it bad, at least it had memorable authentic emotion. No matter what the 90s anime is the reason Sailor Moon is more popular than ever 30 years later to the point I see kids wearing 90s Sailor Moon shirts, so they did something right. Naoko loved watching it every week and was sad when it ended. There was more emotion in the 90s when Nephrite, Zoisite, and the Senshi dying in season 1 than the hilarious blast from Queen Metalia with the girls crying for a milasecond then forgetting about them the rest of the series. It came off as more comical and out of place than emotional. Naoko also wanted to make Ami a cyborg that horribly dies in an accident but that didn’t make it in Crystal. She wanted to individually kill the Senshi in arc 1 and was very upset when she was not allowed but they could in the anime, yet that didn’t make it in Crystal. Just because she wanted to do something doesn’t mean it was handled well by the show producers, stop using the author as an excuse for a bad production team that caused the introduction to this series to be a stain until season 3 and these movies.

Also thats what the producers said in an interview, Naoko had no comments on the romance plot was handled in Crystal and still does not. There’s obvious reason why they changed the producer to a woman by season 3 who has been on the project for years.

Indeed mate. As much as I love eternal I loved this design for not looking so generic. It looked so unique and beautiful that till now I still think bluray season 2 is second to none. A seasonal beauty. It was seen just like the manga where the darkness of the story is rising. Season 3 was supposed to be even darker but it didn't.

@@bakumysir same. The new style is so generic...season 1-2 were their own thing...unique animation. Season 3 was just Pre-Cure. I can't help but wonder what seasons 3-5 would look like had they stayed with season 1-2's style.

they got death threats from the entitled and ungrateful english speaking fandom, because it was not their nostalgia 90s, and they ended up firing the entire crystal 1-2 team. that fandom also decided to tear apart those two seasons frame by frame, and manipulate said frames(photoshopped them and stretched them) to drive a non existent point. crystal 1-2 had a very unique rich art style, that was harder to animate, and the animation of season 2 was the best animation sailor moon ever had. crystal 3 was a simplified generic moe art style, that had worst animation than before, and eternal and cosmos are 90s nostalgia like the haters asked

First two seasons got ton of backlash from fans so they obviously had to change it.

The fans wanted it that way! You can't please everybody. Also, season 3 was produced for television (not "just" for an online release) and Eternal was produced for theatres, so they used to oppurtunity to increase the quality. I did like the first art style, but I think it was the best choice to change it.
