I think if you can limit yourself to using it for business purposes and networking, it's definitely the best way to use it, especially if you're not doubled down for hours analysing it and keeping your life balanced. I'd love to be able to abandon social media completely because I know I waste time on it, but maybe it's just a case of that I need to manage my use of it better.

So true. I use to be into social media and was so jaded by it that I dropped it all cold turkey. I was tired of the fakery, the egos (including mine), the wanna be philosophical messages, keyboard relationships, and the DRAMA. I don’t concern myself with other people’s lives more than mine anymore. I don’t measure myself to what people think is cool or fun. I live in reality. It’s been 5 years now and I don’t miss it one bit.

Yeah i dropped social media 3 years and it almost feels surreal living in a world of reality while most people around you are living in a fantasy world. It almost makes me feel like IM normal. And its actually helped with anxiety knowing i can deal with things without having to have social media. And i like the fact that im not just exposing my life to people. I remember going to turks and caicos after deleting my social media and it felt so good to not be on my phone, worrying about taking the best pictures, etc. i was enjoying myself and everyone around me. Thats when i knew i didnt want to download social media again. you really get to live YOUR best life with those your surrounded by when youre not held down by your phone/social media.

Dennis F. aka M.A. Dennis because Jesus is not in the church but in us-when you ask for Him to actually come in. Do your research to learn and understand scripture “interpretation” was manipulated because people do not read for themselves: it DOES NOT VALIDATE SLAVERY. The history of biblical stories are in AFRICA. Jesus is written as feet of BRONZE hue. You study to show yourself approved before God and man. He’s coming soon; seek fast.

It’s so weird I was thinking about this the other day. I quit social media for like a month now, there was something that just made me feel so negative about my life, I decided to just quit. When I think deeply about it, social media makes you care about such materialistic things(girls, money, status, clothes), it creates fabricated relationships with people ( you think you know someone because you follow a them and see their stories) but in real life you have nothing in common with that person anymore and lastly, social media executives invest millions of money into researching how to keep people addicted to their apps. It’s why we love constantly refreshing our page to see the amount of likes or comments we get under a recent photo for example, or how many followers we have. It’s how social media make money. The more they can keep you on their app or constantly checking on their app, the more advertisers would pay them.

This is all facts, when I graduated college, I went off social media to focus on myself for a year, start making money, working out, hooping, doing my chores, being a better uncle, you are so much more productive doing things that will benefit you for that day or for tomorrow instead of looking for validation all the time, now I am back on it but I'm not constantly I need this in my life. When people would ask me or tell me I can't find you on FB or IG or Twitter anymore why? I would tell them why and they would say oh I can't do that or look at me crazy. Point being, social media does not run your life unless you let it.

Working from home being all alone all day got me here. I constantly find myself scrolling for no particular reason. The work gets done regardless because I'm used to it by now but the phone demands more attention than the stuff that's on the computer screen. I got off social media just for the sake of feeling what it's like and it was hard at first. You want to see what's going on and what the people are doing. It's subconscious most of the time and it effects your perception and your mood. Can you imagine ? Other people's posts influencing how you feel about yourself, nah man you can keep that shit.

being conscious of that urge like he said is key!! the kids growing up with this cant tell much of a difference b/c that's all they know. They have a low attention to detail b/c of it and they're being guided MORE than they know. When u cant control that urge, u allow the things that draw you in to do exactly what they're intended to do. The people that created social media have studied dopamine and the effects the brain. They are aware of the mind-control and addiction and its serious. It creates a habitat of being oblivious to a lot of other things around you as well.....more in touch with A.I. than the physical the world...

Social media = my income ... my business and my brand is online / social media ... social media can be bitter sweet .. a lot of us consume too much time on it .. so I usually do a social media detox .. a week with no social media every month and self care is also really important .. Self discipline and the Social Media Menu you choose to consume through your eyes are a couple of the issues more so. It can be and is in fact a tool if you choose to use it that way. It's how often you use it and how you use it. It's like a good many things in life. If you cannot moderate usage then it's going to become a problem and an 'addiction' it's a huge part of many businesses these days and that's really positive in the realms of money making and such. It's the non-productive scrolling and the avoidable clashes between people whose values obviously don't allign with your own is where it starts being detrimental. Nice to hear you make it work for you! Keep it positive!

I've been avoiding watching this video because I was going through the same thing and just wanted to ride the wave. For j.cole to mention drinking the way he did is really reflective on how I feel about alcohol now too, especially after bad experiences. I have taken many breaks from social media and have now realised that the best way for me to use it is as a tool. I wish i could click reset on all platforms, remove previous follows and grow and develop from the beginning. but in a way im happy to ignore those who im already connected with and continue with my life journey through posting things i connect with. My generation grew up with the introduction to this social media digital age and i understand the generations younger than me use social media completely different from how i do and how we once did. One question i have come to wonder is that do the younger generation choose social media over reading books? it may seem crazy, i may be old school but for me, i find it better to go be aware that im about to scroll aimlessly and instead pick up a book, or do something more productive. I understand the internet is a world full of knowledge, but I also see that books (if choosing the right one) can change your life and ultimately make you realise you don't need validation from those on social media who are just as lost as you. Books have been key to communicating for generations and I fear that if we lose that we may lose sense of some form of knowledge. To write a book takes time effort, research, development but maybe now social media is that process through different means? There is a lot of good content out there like this video for example, but there is a connect with books that is unique to our personal development and experience. J COLE NEEDS TO WRITE A BOOK TBH! thank you if you read this mini essay and i would love for people to comment and make questions on it. Im not saying in anyway shape or form that im right, im just curious and have ideas

He also speaks on how he impowered himself which was to say no to things. Being able to say no to things that dont serve you a healthy purpose is self love. Self love is the key to happiness

JayFlaxh bc she’s judging people based on whether they’re “covered in tattoos” or not. even if he was tatted up i’d still have the same love and respect for him.

I feel this soooo heavy . I stopped social media for a while , when i went back i still didn’t wanna be there . I felt completely out of control but i feel like it can be a positive tool but .. damn this was a really good perspective on how to deal with it but not let it control you . I love you J Cole btw 😂💛
