www.hardknock.tv Four years after their first interview J Cole and Nick Huff Barili link up for their fourth in-depth interview. In part 2 J Cole talks to Nick about creating music for his sophomore album. "People don't know I really just dropped two albums on you this year. If you combine all Truly Yours 1, 2 and 3 and then with my album and...whatever songs I leaked...and I still have more stashed that we haven't put out." Asked why he begins Born Sinner stating "Its way darker this time" Cole states "There was some real dark shit that I made in the processes. Some of it aint even on it. There was one song...that was mad dark...Almost too dark...But sometimes it was dark, sometimes it was Chris Tucker cause that's just how I was feeling that day. But the point is I was just free. Just free to get shit off my chest. [like] Let Nas Down...or play with flows but really say some shit like Rich Niggaz". "A song like Let Nas Down is like...weight of your chest. Ever told a secret to somebody? [and feel like] I'm glad I told. That's what Born Sinner felt like for me." Cole goes on to describe what it felt like to finish his album. "I'm literally sitting in the studio by myself, I had been in the studio 7 straight days. No shower. No bullshit. Literally straight. I didn't even see the outside until I was done with the album. Everybody was sleeping in the lounge..Its like 6, 7am maybe even 8 am. I'm in the studio listening to the album and I could not believe. Its almost like I'm listening to it like a fan for the first time. As soon as Born Sinner came on, the last song, [I] started crying grateful tears and also unbelievable tears like I really did it. I beat this shit. I beat yall niggaz. I could of been crushed. I could have been broken. I could have lost. The shit I had to go through....Its just the way the game was set up. It wasn't set up for me to survive in my purest state...I'm not supposed to still be here dropping Crooked Smile and having that be a smash."
You will have to watch the video for the the rest of this interview including Cole talking about how the system almost crushed Wale's career, dealing with duality and decoding the line "did a deal with the devil, now I'm pleading with him like give me my soul."
Tune in next week for part 3 of our conversation with J Cole!

I don't think people will ever really understand or acknowledge how much of a impact this guy has. This man single handedly reassured niggas that's it's okay to be yourself. He shows you it's cool to be smart it's cool to accept who you are it's cool to embrace your flaws. As corny and cliche as this sound his music helped me find myself his music helped learn my purpose In life. Long story short the first time I heard his music I've been deeply in touch with always being myself! Most of all his music stopped me from committing suicide a few years ago the actual song that gave me hope to go on is " Can I live."

I feel you bro. When I heard his friday night lights mixtape it felt so relieving like a breath of fresh air. It felt like he was telling word for word exactly what I went through during my years as a teen. I still remember like yesterday getting teary eyed after hearing the song 2 face. That song help me get over a lot of pain that I suffered from people I thought were my friends, and that was the first time in my entire life where I experienced a song/music making me shed tears

It's amazing how quick I fell in love with this dude, bro. Pause, but g shit bro. He reminds me so much of myself by the way I think, ponder, consider, and worry. I feel like it's only me at my school, that actually cares about my well-being, and what's best for me. I understand all things around me, what's good, what's bad, and what's really important. I never witnessed somebody diplaying yhe SAME FUCKIG EXACT GOTDAMN THOUGHTS I FUCKING HAVE EVERY FUCKING DAY. It's amazes, scares, and excites me all a once. Mad love for this nigga, no homo. For real tho J Cole is the most underrated rapper in the business right now. He hasn't won a award yet, hasn't won nothing and I think he really deserves best album of the year. This dude is so intellectual when he raps and I just love his music I will always ride with Cole till the end.

I respect Cole 100%. His music was like a breath of fresh air when he 1st hit with that single Lost ones. That was 1st time i ever heard his music. Im from NYC im in my 30's & witness Hip Hop's NYC Golden Era & just really appreciated the Humanistic approach to his music. I under stand his stance on the duality of Man. "We all got Angels, We all got demons" I still face such struggles everyday..

The system doesn't want us to be Humans, it wants us to be consumers. We're not supposed to show any compassion or love toward anyone. If we love we're supposed to love a piece of Gold,Car or clothing or the idea that others envy what we have. The only time the re-enforcement of Family values are pushed is during commercial holidays such as Easter, X-Mas, Valentines & The 4th, basically whenever its most profitable.

The best rapper doing it right now (alongside Kendrick and Joey). He's one of the only few of the new school staying true to the art form while making music that can reach and connect to the people. You can't listen to an album twice and fully hear and digest everything. At the 4:00 minute mark he tells you the difference between mixtape cole and album cole. The industry made him play the game and now that he's made it out he can get back to his warm up flow. He said he almost made this album with no singles but then he hit a groove and made power trip, crooked smile, forbidden fruit, she knows. Which all are single radio type of songs. His 1st single for this album was Miss America which is Classic cole.

I hate how all interviewers wanna break interviews up and post them in time gaps this shit is annoying now. Its a trend that was started by Zane Lowe and Elliot Wilson but doing that doesn't make your viewing audience bigger I just don't see the point. people will subscribe if you did a good job not because they have to come back 3 separate times. The Breakfast Club might be the best source for interviews right now and they post the whole thing the same day. I appreciate the good work its just annoying.

J Cole is EASILY the best rapper out of the New School. His effortless style and seemingly simple lyrics that always have deeper meanings behind them remind me of a lot of the greats back in the golden age of rap. He chooses every word very carefully, similar to Nas. 1) J. Cole 2) King Los 3/4) Childish Gambino/Hopsin 5) Wale They are lyrically are the best in the new school... not necessarily MUSICALLY the best but they put the most work into their words and just bar for bar can easily out rap people like Drake, Kendrick, Meek and Big Sean who are considered to be the best nowadays.

TheOp there would be no point in me trying to prove my intelligence to you. It's all opinion. Kendrick is over hyped and not nearly as deep as people pretend he is. His flow is trash and his lyrics seem pretentious to me. He's got a couple good songs but I find his music boring and his lyrics underwhelming. He's not as good as Hopsin, he's not as good as J Cole, He's not as good King Los, He's not as lyrical as Grieves or Slug, He's not as smooth as Wale, and overall his music is just weak. Sure he's better than Drake and A$AP Rocky and Big Sean but that doesn't make him dope.

He needs to realize his soul craves morality and the only way he can be guilt free is to be hungry. He cant always satisfy his sins so if he wants peace in his soul he will be hungry and never satisfy his flesh. Yes he his human and will fail but he needs to lead a life where he tries, even great men like martin luther king fail, but they lead a life where they always try.
