I’m not from the hood and wasn’t raised in this environment But I have great appreciation for this music AND for the strength that these people have. I feel the pain in my soul. I have nothing but respect for those growing up & coming out the hood because they WORKED with the cards they were dealt. That takes a tremendous amount of strength, physically & mentally. I did happen to grow up and go to school with people who did live this way and I got nothing but love & respect for them.

We'll probably never hear another rapper that can use the term "allegory"...and understand the meaning of it!! Not in this day 😌
@flashfive123 жыл бұрын
@@bepbepsc07 most rappers aren’t dumb they(some) just make mindless music because that’s what the mainstream wants. Also there are a ton of mainstream rappers as well as underground rappers that can not only understand what allegory means but also flip it in a line better than this. Not hating on Cole been a fan since 07 but this line was very subpar for his standards (on its own) but it fit the overall message of the song very well.

Anyway True Story. 23rd street NYC Flat Iron building block from there, to 6th Ave where the Barnes and Noble is located, me and my classmate Kurt was walking and he spotted OBB in a old style Mercedes Benz at the stoplight- a big dude with dreads was driving with a Latina or (Italian) looking Chick in car with ODB in car- year 1995. Kurt yelled out ODB! ODB jumped out car came over to us and said thanks for the support peace Gods. ran back to the car. Crazy... But I never forgot that gesture. Mad SUPANOVA

Bro when NAS called out Sideline Story for being too commercial, that was the best thing that ever happened for J Cole. Next album he came back like Damn I let Nas down. The Album after that , Forest Hill Drive 😳 J Cole took Nas criticism to heart , and it inspired him to evolve into something different. Cole has elevated himself into the conversation of artists who stand the tests of time. Dude enhanced his brain on a Philosophers level , then took his pen skills and paired it with his advanced insight and story telling abilities.. And he just dropped Gem after Gem. I swear Cole a legend in his own right now.
