I missed a class where we discussed the J curve. This just saved me. But when you talk about a depreciation shouldnt the arrow for the ER point upwards (bc now you pay more for the other currency)?

Simple calculus takes you a long way (Marshal-Lerner Condition). I could never understand things without a Mathematical proof. So thanks for the Mathematical illustration ^^

J curve should go immediately downwards as a straight line - this is because as price increases, (X-M) will immediately deteriorate
