Donald Trump's running mate, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, gave his first speech since he was picked for the Republican ticket. Vance discussed his humble beginnings and the importance of a Trump-Vance ticket for the future of the country.

I love that J.D. is on that stage! I was raised in the Appalachian mountains by my grandmother who gave me the opportunity to overcome the odds that I would never be successful. I totally understand the obstacles J.D. had to overcome. I am so proud that he has not forgotten where he came from. I was the first person in my family to graduate from college. I owe everything I have accomplished in my life to my grandmother. Congratulations J.D. Vance!

It also speaks to love and forgiveness. It's hard to forgive people who did terrible things to you, even if it was in addiction, but forgiveness and love can heal many wounds. It shows strength and emotional maturity. And I love his suggestion that his mother celebrate her ten years clean at the White House. ❤

A good speech, except for the outrageous claim that Americans competing with immigrants illegal or otherwise is why housing is unavailable/unaffordable. It’s because of companies like blackrock buying up houses with cash offers 10-20% above asking price. Which begs the question why would trump ask Larry Fink (CEO of Blackrock) to be his next treasury secretary. That’s the opposite of “draining the swamp”.

I am 35 years old 4 years younger than JD Vance. I grew up being raised by my Father and Mamaw in Middletown Ohio and the two neighboring towns of Franklin and Lebanon after my mother left our family. My family migrated from Tennessee and I have lost almost every high school friend to drug overdoses. I also get a phone call about a friends death every few months. I was blessed enough to meet my wife and 10 years ago start my own business. We now live with our two children living as close to the American dream as we can in this economy. It has been so hard since the recession. We have had to raise our prices to get by and we book far less clients since the people have to make sacrifices and can't afford us. I speak from my own life experience that JD Vance is not exaggerating about the situation in our area. He is not just being a politician. I would be failing if I did not take the time to write this.

My wife and I were waiting for the VP pick, and when Vance was announced, we were like....who? We heard he wrote a book and that it had a movie, so we watched it. My wife had a very similar childhood in almost every way, so his story resonates heavily with her, and I found him quite likable. Now, having watched his backstory and hearing this speech...we get why he was chosen. So glad to see a fresh face with a bright future.

I’m from Ohio and was a local Paramedic with JEMS and we had MANY 911 calls for drug related problems in Franklin and Middletown. Poor towns, lots of unemployed people with abundant drugs available. I can't lie. I found myself cheering for Grandma Vance and Mama Vance more than anything else. To me those two women are the perfect example of the American spirit. One always makes sure she can protect her own no matter what, and one shows the strength to overcome something that for many people is impossible. A week ago I had never heard of JD Vance. Now, after a week of research, and this speech, I can say I will gladly and proudly call him my Vice President.

As a Canadian with no dog in this hunt, Vance seems eloquent, well-spoken, humble and from a blue-collar background, who has overcome much adversity in his life..basically he’s the complete opposite of nearly EVERY member of our Liberal party. I don't think all democrats are evil. However, the "D" party seems to have lost it's way. I think too many corrupt "life time" politicians, (Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Shummer....). TERM LIMITS!!!!! When politicians make so much money by insider trading and only looking out for their own interests, they are NOT public servants. I was very surprised when president Trump announced his pick for vice president. I had never heard of JD Vance. 🥺🥺😭 as a child who's mother never got sober and my grandparents stepped in and gave me a home that most nonbroken families do not even get to experience full of love and respect and opportunities this is the most "hey I'm human too" speech I've ever heard from a political party. I'm republican but wasn't sure if I'd vote this year.... I'll be at the polls casting my vote. Cause Lord knows we need help in this country we are on a downhill slide and there's limited opportunity and options to stop it and I believe stopping it starts with Vance and Trump

I read his book long time ago and had huge respect for him and Apalachian people. I am from Serbia but i feel somehow conected to Apalachian people. Maybe because my father is from similar region in Serbia. Hill people are similar everywhere. One sentence from the book has all the weight of Apalachia region. " We are the hill people, we respect our dead" . Few years back i was on motorcycle trip and spent night in Matewan, West Virginia. I met a couple who maintened hostel and we had conversation by the fire. I asked lady if she ever left West Virginia since town was very poor. She told me she did it with her 4 kids. They went to North Carolina and she had roof over her head and kids went to school. Life was good. When i asked her why she came back, she told me her granma raised her when she was litlle. When granma got sick she didnt wanna send her to old people home, because in those parts they last few months. So she came back and took care of her. She died in her hands. I asked her if she ever regret leaving better life and coming back but she told me that is the best thing she did in her life. Every once a while i think about her and her story. JD dont let theese politician motherfuckers corupt you and never forget where you come from.
