The street jhope was on at the beginning is the SAME EXACT street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Coles verse is because jhope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day. Even jhopes name is inspired by j.cole. The visual easter eggs and homage paid to J.Cole in this by jhope is insane. Shows his genuine love for a GOAT like J.Cole.

J-Hope is a hip-hop and k-pop artist coexistent of each other. It’s interesting seeing J.Cole fans perceive Jhope as playing into hiphop or ‘wearing’ it. Like the immediate assumption is that he can't possibly be a hiphop artist, but he's just trying look/sound the part and step away from his K-pop image. But J-Hope is hiphop. You comment on the clothes he wears, the jacket and the style - but don't seek to ask the question 'why.' BTS were personally mentored by Coolio, Tony Jones and Warren G before their debut and they spent time in America training and understanding the roots of the genre. They operate so highly in so many different areas (genres, skills such as dancing, producing etc..) because it's survival out there. They needed to. Kpop as a whole is a misunderstood genre- it’s a culmination of many genres which result in Popular Korean music (K-Pop.) It does not come with a distinct style - but it’s brutally misinformed from the West because of the attention heuristic of Kpop groups, ‘gangnam style,’ and Hallyu wave in which people think it does. I see criticisms saying they bought this collab with J.Cole, which is surface level commentary. BTS tell meaningful stories through all of their content - which is why the fans get so up-in-arms when perspectives from the West try to simplify their story (there's a huge gap in knowledge from outsider audiences.) J.Cole is an integral artist to J-Hope's story, who he is as an artist, dancer, producer etc.. J.Cole is the 'idol's' idol. BTS having faced so much discrimination , racism, sabotage, manipulation and hate particularly in America - a $1M ticket is not going to stop them from telling their story and creating meaningful content relevant to themselves and the fan's story. People are confused why they would launch this random collab and produce a 'happy but forgettable' track - it's because they don't need to release music just to make hits, they did that already. When it comes to BTS it is not just the music that speaks, but also everything else listed above. This wasn't for the charts but the arts. And J.Cole fans, this wasn't just for you ,and we urge you to see the other side. J-Hope is leaving in a few months for his mandatory Military service as South Korea is still in tensions with North Korea - every man by the age of 30 has to enlist and serve at least once. He will be saying goodbye to the fans for a while, and what he knows his career as J-Hope and BTS to be right now. This is one of the rare moments he gets allocated time to function as a solo artist and console his personal journey - he chose to conclude this era with his idol. In which he is seen dancing underground and on the street to J.Cole's rapping (where he started at 10 years old) but he still meets him at the top.

I've also been watching your videos for a minute. Thank you for checking out this song from BTS's J-Hope and J. Cole. This is a track J-Hope put out and dedicated to fans before he enlists in the Korean military. He's a huge fan of Cole, and has said he's a source of inspiration for him. J-Hope composed and wrote the Song and his Producer Pdogg did the Mix. They got Jermaine's lines, 4 days before they shot the Music Video, J-Hope wrote the Song back in November. J-Hope was a street Dancer, after listening to Friday Night Lights, he started writing lyrics and making his own Beats. He always mentioned J-Cole in his Songs, and in general, as his inspiration to Start Music. His mix Tape Hope World is a Name play on J-Coles Cole World as well. That's why him dancing to Jermaine's rap, is pretty special because that was his Childhood, the Song a goodbye because J-Hope is going to the Military soon, it's mandatory is South Korea. The reason the MV was filmed in NY is that his musical roots and his dance (Hip Hop) started in New York, he always gives Credit to the OG's. In his recent Album Jack in the Box... he sampled ODB, and at his Lollapalooza Set he had a huge screen that showed his Face to honor him. I’m shocked how many people have been sleeping on BTS/Hope yet talk about being hip hop fans. They’re essentially a group heavily rooted in hip hop that just HAPPENS to be Korean and have a widely diverse range. Rags to riches, self-made, genuine. Humble men. I’ve watched y’all for years for hip hop videos but I’m ARMY. You’re wrong about him needing to tread lightly and cater. They met for the first time this past July when Jhope headlined Lollapalooza. Jhope just released a solo album, "Jack in the Box" and a documentary called "Jhope in the Box" where you can see how the two finally met. If you want to check it out, BTS did an unofficial cover of "Born Sinner" called "Born Singer", in 2014 and last year JCole gave them permission to release if officially so it is on their anthology album "PROOF". They did a live performance of it recently while they were in Vegas for the Grammys. They also did their new track "Yet To Come" and Anderson Paak played the drums for it. RM, BTS' leader and main rapper, also just released an album titled "Indigo" and it features Anderson Paak, Erykah Badu, and others. :)

This is bigger than you know jhope idol is JCOLE. Hes biggest fan and is going to the military this collab was the biggest thing to happen. jhope is one of 3 very talented rappers in BTS. He made this beat and the melody and his producer did the mix. jhope grew up with hip hop included the other rappers of BTS check out their cyphers and jhope album Jack in the Box huge 90s influence and an ODB sample. This collab is so damn cool. I’ve been a fan of both JCole and the boys from BTS for years. To have JCole jump on a track with J-hope, knowing how much J-hope has been inspired by him makes me so damn proud. I think on first listen if you know nothing about J-hope and his history it will be hard to fully appreciate this song. J-Hope has said often that J-Cole was his muse. He grew up dancing in the 90s to J-Cole's music (recreated in the video) and his stage name is even a homage to him. He is a complex and a true hip hop talent but chose to make J-Cole the star of this track intentionally. BTS also have a song called Born Singer which is an adaptation of J-Cole's Born Sinner. This collab is the culmination of one of J-hope's biggest dreams in life at an important crossroads in his life. You said he knows where his bread is buttered and that is somewhat accurate but not in the way you meant it. The song is his goodbye to Army before he goes off to the actual army in Korea (mandatory for all men). He intentionally has lyrics that express his gratitude and the song in general represents his hopeful and cheerful outlook toward the future. As I expressed, if you don't know J-Hope you won't fully get the song but glad you gave it a chance.

Jhope is 1 of the 3 rappers in BTS, writer, producer and dance leader. He started off as a street dancer and learned how to rap once in the group creating his own style. I’m a hip hop lover and usually look for meaning in a song by looking up lyrics and breaking them down. Someone suggested I would love BTS if I opened my mind to different languages. So I started with the rap line and never looked back! Just with the rappers alone they collectively have 5 mixtapes and 2 (so far) solo albums. Not counting what they do in the group. Definitely worth checking them out.

Now knowing that J hope was a big cole fan, seeing him dance on coles verse was actually amazing to see I read that Hope used to dance to cole songs. And now he has a track with him, truly inspiring.

Jhope and pdogg (long time BTS producer) created this beat with JCole in their minds. It is a song for fans, both Jhope and JCole talk to their fans both on topics are relevant for each, Jhope and his military enlistment and JCole and his future plans. The vibe is uplifting in a way but bittersweet. I think is exactly what we all needed. The most precious part in the MV is Jhope dancing to every word in JCole’s verse. That’s what Jhope really intended, having JCole on his track to just dance to it. Much respect on this collab.

To me personally this song is basically my introduction to J Hope/BTS and honestly it was a just a cool vibe to the whole MV and song in general and i agree with Ryan and George about Cole trying to wrestle with the idea of retiring and just living his life in peace and then you get a bullshit list like billboard posted and then you just have to remind people who he is and how he deserves to be in the top 10 conversation of all time. The fans have always been important to BTS for a decade. They are not like the American artists that you used to. They interact with the fans a lot on weverse live. They came from a company almost bankrupt to where they are today because of their fans who brought them to America, not the media. If you know their background and history, you will realize they are genuinely not doing it for the show especially they are still the same humble artists after a decade. JHope is a rapper and he's versatile not just pop. This is the last song for the fans before he enlists into military.

Just like any other creator you want to build your community and just because BTS has one that sells out stadium’s does not diminish the last ten years of them working hard to get there. Jhope didn’t wake up one day and decide to scratch a few dollars together. He worked on this song for a long time. He does not have to chase after ARMYS affection. Many people have been ARMYS for ten years we built up a connection just like any other artist would with their community. He is not rapping about having to do fan service at the start of the song. He is going away for military service for close to two years. It’s a reminder for those who care for him….walk lightly and remember he’s always been here for us.

j-Hope started out as a street dancer, he began rapping once he got in the group but he has mastered it. J Hope is one of the nicest artists of this generation. He always makes sure to pay homage and give legends their flowers. He has a song called Chicken Noodle Soup, I’m sure yk what song that is. Recently he sampled Wu Tang Clan on his song “What if” off of his album Jack in the Box…he really loves hip hop and the culture. All in all he is a all-rounder, he raps, sometimes sings, writes, produces, and his specialty dances. Thank you for such an open minded reaction ! Cole was so great on this.

It's crazy seeing so many Hip Hop fans be late to the game when it comes to BTS especially because so many big named Hip Hop artists have worked with them. This is J-Hope this is what he's about, he don't front for no one. You see it how it is. J-Hope aka Hobi is BTS dancer and rapper. Whenever they do solo projects/albums it's so their fanbase can see what they're personally like. So we can know their perception of things and their thoughts and feelings. J-Hope is BTS's sunshine, the happy go lucky guy in the group but on his solo work omg this man is deep. J.Cole has been real inspo for him, you can look at his Hope World album and see it for yourself. BTS also released a version "Born Singer" in 2013 remade from "Born Sinner" from J.Cole with his permission recently. J.Cole is one of Hobi's biggest motive and muse. The song was produced by J-Hope and P.Dogg, he got J.Cole's lyrics 4days before he releasing the song. So like any Korean male they have to do 2yrs mandatory military service and Hobi has enlisted. This song is his goodbye track for the moment and his reason for J.Cole getting all those lines is so J-Hope could enjoy his last moments before going m.i.a. J.Cole was speaking for Hobi in the goodbye lines and just saying it's goodbye for the moment but he'll be back, and when he's back it'll definitely go down. Hobi is a sunshine we all definitely need at some point.

I was surprised to see you reacting to this one, although I should have guessed you would considering it was J.Cole. I think you'd be surprised by how varied and unsafe JHope can be (see songs like More or Arson) but he does lean more happy-go-lucky than even the other members of BTS. Have you guys considered adding foreign language music to your repertoire, whether it be k-hiphop, latin, finnish death metal or whatever? Could be interesting, although a lot of lyrical nuance gets lost in translation - so it would be extra effort to dig below the surface meaning of songs.

I need y’all to know they’re a bigger deal beyond the Korean scene too, BTS numbers are up there with Bad Bunny, Drake, Taylor Swift & more. But I appreciate you guys checking all of this out & giving it a chance!

That’s how I interpret that line because he’s saying goodbye, thanking his fans and repaying them for their support. J-hope is a rapper as I am sure many have already said. Listen to Jack in the Box to get a feel for what he does. I recommend STOP, Arson, Safety Zone and Future to get a taste of his range. He’s very versatile and has great lyrics. As a fan, this felt like a warm goodbye hug. He has lots of other songs that are aggressive or funky or super dense lyrically. This has a different intention behind it including paying homage to Cole who inspired him as an artist. I personally love the song and thought it was a great collaboration. There are a lot of parallels with Cole’s lyrics and j-hope’s Arson and More (even though it was from a different view point). It was cool to see that conversation of two artists contemplating life changes while still being hungry. I’m pretty sure Cole must have read lyric translations to jhope’s recent album.

The answer to this J-Hope x J.Cole collab is in one of their songs released in 2014 - Hip Hop Phile. All 7 members, especially the rap line, have mad respect for all hip hop legends. I could not even begin to imagine the pride and joy J-hope had when he met J.Cole in the flesh, nor the fact that a collab was in the works. I truly hope this collaboration will shed light on BTS' roots and history, which all began and was largely influenced by the genre.

I think hope impressed jcole enough that cole agreed to feat. This was a gift to jhopes fans before he leaves for the military. Hope said he wanted to go back to his roots which is 90s hip hop and street dancing with this farewell song. Jhope has been referencing jcole for years in his raps. When hope met jcole last year he told him when he was young he loved Friday night lights so I think cole saw where hope was coming from that he was a real one

The song is just sad , cole talking about the possibility of retiring and the fact that jhope is also taking a break from the kpop scene due to his Mandatory military service. It's really a song of understanding. You love your craft but at some point you have to break away from it and it's a scary thing to think about for someone that gives their all to something and have to let it go. 💜💜 Thanks for reacting guys

Jhope was a street dancer before he joined BTS. He learned to rap with RM and Suga (the other rappers in BTS who underground rappers before BTS were) his own persistence and listening to rappers like JCole and developed his own style. In Hip Pop Phile by BTS during Jhope's verse he said, "Hope hope world, before I built my own world, there was Cole world | When he lit up Friday night, |I became more inspired to write my own music". I am so glad that he was able to collab with one of his role models or someone that has inspired him. This is song is so beautiful. This is his gift to ARMY (fan base) before he has to leave for mandatory military service. Many people think the song kind of felt more like a JCole song, which I understand, but Jhope said before this was announced that he was "going back to the streets". So, I think that was the point. He is dancing more because that is what he did in the streets before BTS while listening to people like JCole. Now that Jhope has made it in his career his is able to meet/collab his muse. The music video shows Jhope's journey. At least that is my interpretation. I interpret the little boy two different ways. 1. being ARMY 2. himself in the past

Honestly, I know Jcole from BTS back then when they sang "Born Singer" in 2013 (Jcole "born sinner"). The fact is we from Asia know certain west singer from BTS Collaboration or cover songs, and west sometime getting famiar with BTS because of collaboration with west artists. Fair enough, right?

FYI, jhope has "harder" more rap-focused songs/verses, he is really versatile. This song has this tone because it's his farewell/see you later song before he starts his military service.

I kind of wish the last hook with Cole doing background for Hope was on every hook in the song. It’s definitely a feel good track. That line about hip hop being like his daughter at the alter and how you gotta let her grow hit so hard- as a hip hop golden era fan and as a new father, on a personal note.

J Cole has been J Hope's idol for a long time. This is J Hope's final song before he goes to serve his enlistment in the Korean Army so for him to be able to do this with Cole before he leaves is amazing.

He said when he heard JCole say his name on the track he was so happy. This is actually a fan song as well. In his country men have to serve 2 years of mandatory military service so this is his last song before he enlists. He started out as a street dancer before becoming and idol trainee and rapper. BTS has a song called Born Singer a call back to Born Sinner. It's really great.
