Very encouraging. I hope this is the future of dairy farming. It's great to see these animals treated humanely and respected.

It’s nice to see that some diary farmers really care about their cows, but even then I have eliminated diary from my diet. Unfortunately not all diary farms are like this.

Please if you can make one more change and never feed the "FEED/GRAIN" cows are supposed to graze on grass and hay, some herbs & flowers maybe that grow between the grass. The grain feed changes the make up of EFA's and the enzymes in the milk and changes the animals too. Pls feed your cows grass and hay with some alfalfa or chia and clovers whatever, but not the feed/grains.

how do you raise the caves like them but every time I tried to raise them they all scoured and died I really love the cows they remind me of a cow we had on the farm years ago , she was so friendly more like a pet then an animal we used for milk and cream for the house

michael Laforme you have to limit their milk intake. Too much and they scour and die.

michael Laforme really sorry to hear that hey! I'm sure you'll get plenty of feedback here from experienced dairy farmers offering you useful advice to avoid that. Wish you the best with the next lot of calves you get!👍😃

Question, How do cows make milk unless they are made pregnant? How are they made pregnant? What happens to their calves?
@jg5755
@jg5755 Жыл бұрын
Of course they have to give birth before lactating. Heifers and cows cycle every 16-21 days and when they are in heat they are very disruptive and potentially very dangerous to humans. They are pregnant for 9 months and will cycle 6 weeks after the birth of their calf then every 16-21 days thereafter, year round, until they are pregnant once more. If they put on too much weight giving birth becomes dangerous so following their natural cycle is in the best interest of the cows. It also gives them a break from being milked to build up their reserves and so they can produce the essential colostrum for their new calf. AI is best especially where 'calving ease' is concerned. Pure Jersey bulls are sought-after as are pure heifers as replacements. Dairy calves, Jerseys especially, are born with very few fat reserves making them prone to death if left out in the elements. Removing them from the cows ensures they receive essential colostrum (not all cows are good mothers and calves will die if they don't receive it). Calves can also attempt to drink too much of the milk produced by their mothers (as they produce enough to feed 2-4 calves) leading to scours which quickly becomes life threatening. Many dairy cows are so sweet they'd never actually wean their calf which puts their health, and the health of subsequent calves, at risk. It may seem 'cruel' from an ignorant human perspective but certain practices are essential for the health and well-being of the whole herd. I milk my own cows for my family's consumption and even I keep calves separated to ensure they are well fed and sheltered from the elements. It also ensures heifers I want to keep do not continue to feed off their mothers, preventing their mothers from being able to produce colostrum and stealing milk from the next calf.

@@jg5755 I guess if you believe dairy is essential, these animals are at your mercy. I've been vegan for over 30 years. I'm in better shape and healthier than all of my animal protein consuming friends.what happens to calves? Are they stuck in a crate to keep them tender for your butchering?

watering grass is not that sustainable. you have to improve grass mix you grow, so you would not have to waste water for grass. cos it looks like a golf field not a farm.
