It appears that you haven’t listened to any of the talks of JK and if you have then you haven’t understood anything. In all of the talks some of the children sit right next to him which shows that he doesn’t place himself above them. In many of his talks he constantly reminds people that sitting on a platform doesn’t give him any authority whatsoever. It is very obvious that he is asking because he wants to hear from them if they understood. Kids often obey and say yes because adult teachers say so, especially in cultures of the Eastern world, India more than anywhere, where children are conditioned to respect and obey the elders in everything. That is why he is continuously asking. I am not JK, I cannot obviously say what’s in his mind, but as someone who grew up in a similar culture I clearly see that it’s very important to him that children truly understood, not just said “yes sir”. I hope that clarifies things.

Obviously, you cannot see through the words “do you understand?”, etc. You think they are condescending. Once you see through them, you’ll see he really wants boys (or his audience) to see the TRUTH of the words he’s using, not take in those words as concept
